What if the astroid is as big a country, or slightly bigger? Surely it'd have some gravity?
The thing about mining asteroids is that they're kinda.... Moving. And that means that transporting the minerals mined would be a new challenge each trip unless you somehow managed to stop the asteroid completely. Which would be next to impossible unless you built giant rockets all over it or something.

Yes, but, Mars has a lot more gravity than an asteroid. Leaving an asteroid would use a lot less fuel.
