if this sort of trend continues and russia becomes more and more self contained and self "sustaining" it's going to begin to resemble the soviet union very shortly.
Lol Putin can just issue a "decree" like that and ban imports?
Can you lock the door to your dwelling?
Let us starve to death to show those western pigs that we are strong
Thank you, Putin.

Force it to be more independent then point your finger at it and shout "hey its the soviet union"

there's a huge difference between basic economic sanctions and agricultural sanctions, you're cutting off food sources at that point
the cold war never ended.
It's more like a slightly chilly war now.
The only profitable thing Russia has going for it is oil (in northern Siberia and in Sakhalin) but even that won't affect the West as much
This is so funny because Russia is the only belligerent here. They're the ones fucking around with Ukraine.
It's like a bad guy getting revenge for revenge.
People are saying this will only hurt Russia, but Russia has options to their south and east. China would hardly turn away from a chance at a multi-billion dollar export deal with Russia and I expect that's exactly who's going to make up the difference.

If they can do without than whats the issue.
People are literally trying to screw over their economy, only makes sense to make sure you do not rely on those people in future and to make sure your money is spent elsewhere.
What do you expect Russia to do instead?
edit:
"[Mr] Putin has been strengthened as a result of the sanctions. The Russian public is seeing him as the protector and if he gets the country through these sanctions, he will solidify his hold on power."

The US and EU have banned exports of technology systems, known as "sensitive technologies", for use in Russian deepwater, Arctic and shale oil exploration.
This seems almost like they are trying to maintain a duopoly on those technologies.
and just for fun
In response to the sanctions, Russian gas company Gazprom announced that it would now source its gas turbine spare parts locally instead of relying on imports.
Locally sourced, hand reared, organic gas turbine parts.
the only country this is going to affect is russia lmao
This will wreck Finland's food exports and raise our already ridiculously high food prices in the long term
Fuck, they even call your country the "bread-basket of Europe"!
Romania and Ukraine were called that too, it's a meaningless title
I don't give a shit what Russia stops importing, I just want my damn Saiga rifles back.
these are the top russian imports. interesting to see what they are "curbing"
So basically if Germany, the US and the UK stop selling them mechanical gear then they're up shit creek with a fucked engine.
