There are studies that show that when we report on these guys nation-wide in a sensationalist way it becomes attractive for people with problems as a way to "go out" with shock value and be a household name. There's a certain mental type that's attracted to going and doing a public mass shooting, and the sensationalize of shooters that makes it glamorous and worthwhile for them. On the LAX shooting article CNN had linked a list of mass shootings by kill count, like it was a scoreboard. No one knows the names of victims, but I can guarantee you you probably know the names of at least a few of the shooters. There's no conspiracy. There's no grand plan. These aren't even unusual coincidences. People who go on shooting sprees do it with the intent of not coming out. If you're going to go out, then do it shooting. They go out with a bang. That's what they think. These people, if not ideologically motivated, are often either disgruntled or mentally ill. Fact of the matter is that regardless of the motive, no one goes into a shooting thinking they are going to make it out. Often the most attractive option is to kill yourself or go out shooting.

I just read up that the shooting suspect from the LAX Shooting is from the same part of New Jersey. Conspiracy Theorist are going to have a fucking field day with this.

There are similarities in the profiles of the people who do this, like for instance all mass shooters have been done by men. I think some research needs to be done on violence amongst men (assertion of dominance through violence?), as well as the self-esteem of the shooters (which I imagine is unstable, but actually most often overly high)
