It's really concerning how there seems to be shootings in schools and malls practically every few days in this country.
Maybe if we give them more attention via news coverage it will become less?????
It ranks pretty badly for such a 'developed' country
Let's take a look at the UK, since it has strict gun control and is a 'developed' country. In 2010, there were 158~ gun related deaths. Gun control is not a cure-all for gun violence, and you're fucking deluded if you think it is. Now, let's look at Jamaica. Jamaica is fucking insane about gun control. Police can essentially quarantine entire areas and systematically search every house for weapons, without a warrant. Jamaica also has an incredibly high rate of gun-related deaths, averaging about 40 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to the UK's .25 or the US's 10.3 (which itself is comprised mostly of suicides and unintentional incidents.)
Can anyone explain why the U.S. are so plagued with school shootings / shootings in general? I'm genuinely curious.
Sweden's total size: 449,964 km US's total size: 9,826,675 km We have a few more people in that ~9.4M km
Can anyone explain why the U.S. are so plagued with school shootings / shootings in general? I'm genuinely curious.
It's the result of the media always glorifying killers. It inspires the mentally ill to seek infamy by doing the very thing the media loves to exploit. It's not some government conspiracy. It's a self-sustained, never-ending cycle and the core of it is the news never focusing on what really matters: the victims. If the attention was focused more on the victims then I assure you, the mentally ill will think twice about gaining it.
Let's take a look at the UK, since it has strict gun control and is a 'developed' country. The point is that their extreme gun laws don't help which is contrary to your argument
Which per capita, works out at about one fortieth that of the US I believe. Thanks for making my argument for me.
Your argument is that strict gun control solves gun related crimes. (it doesn't)
I wonder where Jamaica gets all its guns from then...
Doesn't particularly matter since Jamaica's extremely strict gun control should, by your logic, help reduce that number.
Your argument is that strict gun control solves gun related crimes. (it doesn't) I wonder where Jamaica gets all its guns from then...
Well of course gun controls are going to be useless when there's a massive fucking marketplace next door, which is why state-only controls are also useless I also never mentioned gun control. I mentioned guns. If anything I concede they exist in such quantities as to severely limit the effects of gun control. That doesn't mean they aren't the problem - which is the only point I raised
But the fact that I, owning several, and many many thousands of other gun owners, do not feel any more inclined to commit a shooting after hearing about this one, means that guns alone are not the problem, which is, again, contrary to your argument.
Just make guns illegal already, I'm sick of innocent people dying to push this agenda. No one is buying this "random attack" bullshit anymore. There's been too many too similar. Just do it and stop the needless bloodshed, I'm sure these tactics have worked enough to push it through. I'm also sure that the numbers have been inflated enough with this crap to have a justifiable drop in gun violence after they stop doing it.
Every thread. Don't keep on please. Good to hear no-one has been injured
But the fact that I, owning several, and many many thousands of other gun owners, do not feel any more inclined to commit a shooting after hearing about this one, means that guns alone are not the problem, which is, again, contrary to your argument. However every time I see you in SH you are committed to some irrational thought process so it doesn't surprise me that you can't think clearly on this subject either.
I'm not sure why you have to get so personal - I'm clearly touching a nerve Guns provide the means for those who are inclined, not the motive (although they still do to a lesser extent)
I'm in a rush to leave for work, so I'll just say that you argued your point very, very poorly.
Coming from the guy who cited the UK's vastly lower gun crime statistics as proof of gun control not working
I'm not sure why you have to get so personal - I'm clearly touching a nerve Guns provide the means for those who are inclined, not the motive (although they still do to a lesser extent)
I find it absurd that you're grouping me with the kinds of people who commit mass shootings by saying that guns cause them. Excuse me if I seem a little unfriendly toward the person accusing me of being a lunatic. And don't say "I never said that!!" because you're clearly making that connection.
I find it absurd that you're grouping me with the kinds of people who commit mass shootings by saying that guns cause them. Time to abandon the thread as another argument about gun laws happens. Why can't we discuss a thread without some wanker starting up a debate for no reason? Anyway to get the thread back on track, is there a known motive yet?
Coming from the guy who cited the UK's vastly lower gun crime statistics as proof of gun control not working
He contrasted the UK's low gun crime with Jamaica's high gun crime to point out that strict gun laws are not the sole cause of reduced gun crime. Quit deliberately ignoring the point.
He contrasted the UK's low gun crime with Jamaica's high gun crime to point out that strict gun laws are not the sole cause of reduced gun laws. Quit deliberately ignoring the point.
And I refuted that argument by pointing out Jamaica is on the doorstep of the world's largest gun market I also said that once so many guns are already in circulation of course the impact of controls will be more limited [editline]5th November 2013[/editline] Also nice work in going back and rating my previous posts dumb CaptainObvious1, clearly got annoyed at me rating yours huh
You said that and then went on to select half of the post to argue with as though that part of the post contained his whole argument. You pick and choose what to argue with. I'm not going to play this game with you.
Also nice work in going back and rating my previous posts dumb CaptainObvious1, clearly got annoyed at me rating yours huh
Oh nope, just went and started rating all of your posts dumb when you started up this pointless debate. I fail to see in any of your posts where they are relevant to the actual thread. Don't be a smartass now :)
Sweden's total size: 449,964 km US's total size: 9,826,675 km We have a few more people in that ~9.4M km
Yeah of course, that's obvious, but Europe as a whole has a much larger population than the U.S and not nearly as many shootings, so population obviously isn't the reason.

I fail to see in any of your posts where they are relevant to the actual thread. Don't be a smartass now :)
Seeing as this was your opening post in a very similar thread, when no one had even hinted at such a suggestion
THIS IS WHY GUNS SHOULD BE BANNNNNNED!!!!
I think you should probably stop posting [editline]5th November 2013[/editline]
You said that and then went on to select half of the post to argue with as though that part of the post contained his whole argument. You pick and choose what to argue with. I'm not going to play this game with you.
What points have I neglected? Meanwhile both of you attributed entirely strawman arguments to me
Seeing as this was your opening post in a very similar thread, when no one had even hinted at such a suggestion
That post was sarcastic obviously because gun laws are brought up in every one of these threads. Come on, you cannot be this dumb. Can we get back to the actual thread or are you going to continue this argument to stroke your ego?
That post was sarcastic obviously because gun laws are brought up in every one of these threads. Come on, you cannot be this dumb. Can we get back to the actual thread or are you going to continue this argument to stroke your ego?
It was deliberate shit stirring and an example of people trying to preempt gun control debates actually being the main perpetrators And what are you trying to contrive exactly? I made a post. Someone willfully responded. We had a discussion. No one made you read it, or prevented you from making other posts.
It was deliberate shit stirring and an example of people trying to preempt gun control debates actually being the main perpetrators And what are you trying to contrive exactly? I made a post. Someone willfully responded. We had a discussion. No one made you read it, or prevented you from making other posts.
Deliberate shit stirring like you're doing in this thread? I made a joke post in another thread and you've taken it as some super srs attempt to start a debate in another thread and don't start with this posh english wording in your responses like you're some kind of smart ass scholar. You've derailed the thread so great work.
Well of course gun controls are going to be useless when there's a massive fucking marketplace next door
You realize that unless we somehow manage to secure the Mexican border, disarm the cartels already in the US, and hunt down every last stockpiler who will never turn in his guns, you're basically providing an extremely compelling argument against gun control?
You realize that unless we somehow manage to secure the Mexican border, disarm the cartels already in the US, and hunt down every last stockpiler who will never turn in his guns, you're basically providing an extremely compelling argument against gun control?
This couldn't do a perfect job either against the creatures of the Blight. Relevant since you can draw an adequate parallel between this and any border/border post in real life. There's always going to be somebody who can get past any 'secure' border despite all the forces and means against such things. period.
Can anyone explain why the U.S. are so plagued with school shootings / shootings in general? I'm genuinely curious.
the media never play it down because they are driven by profits
I hope this guy is figured out to be part of the patriot movement or an avid alex jones listener. Maybe it will drive alex off the air, maybe the government will put 'the patriot movement' on their big list of terrorists.
Whenever Alex Jones is told his show, which encourages people to fight tyranny and oppression and frequently evokes cries for outright war, caused some violent action, he claims it was a false-flag conspiracy to discredit his show. Guess who his listeners believe.
