I slept with a 40 year old when I was 18 and I'm pretty sure we were exploiting each other for different things. Let's be honest, there aren't many sexual relationships that aren't exploiting each other when it comes to lifestyle. Friends with benefits/one night stands seem to be the ones that are the most straight forward.
Well shit. Looks like the only safe solution is to just cut everyone's dick off / sew the vag shut and make it illegal to perform any sexual acts at all under penalty of death. Otherwise we're opening people up the risk of being sexually exploited.
hungarys law is that 14 and above is fine no parental consent etc
last time I heard about a youth "rape" case was about 5 years ago when it was a slow news day because some 15 yr old guy had sex with a 13 year old
I imagine spains law was completely fine too before international pressure started barging down on them
anyone thats like 20 and has sex with a 14 year old go fuck yourself but tbh placing laws on this kind of shit just makes parent-child relations involve a middle party that's the popo and honestly who the fuck wants that especially when dealing with your kid
I lost my virginity when I was 14 and im not fucked in the head the slightest, and when we live in a world with serious feminism and shit, shouldn't women also know about sex to the same extent that I did when I laid someone who was 18? yeah they should
Yeah sex ed here is mandatory at early age so we don't have a lot of underage pregnant women. I thought we changed the age of consent a while ago though? Anyways, it's a good change.
school isn't even finished at that age, so no
Where do you get that from? I started fucking from 16 and well knew about what was to happen.

It is a good change,
I assume it was just to avoid older guys abusing 13yos, but what I wonder is if two 13yos can fuck eachother with no legal repercussion.
school isn't even finished at that age, so no
School is never finished.
school isn't even finished at that age, so no
It IS finished at that age if you want. You get Primary Education from 5 to 12, then Obligatory Secondary Education from 12 to 16. After finishing it, you can start working (you won't find awesome jobs with only OSE, you're encouraged to pick formation courses or the equivalent of High School, but if you want to stop there, you can)
Haha what?
Most of my post was directed towards the concept of marriage. I thought that was the core concept here but then I saw that it included sexual relations which, as far as that goes, sixteen is an ideal age yes.
What I mean by underdeveloped in the marriage sense, I meant mentally. Sixteen to eighteen year olds are still considered children/adolescents in the scale of physical and emotional development. Their minds and bodies still have a lot of growing and changing to do in that regard.
Here we go again with the "america does this therefore it is the right thing to do"
Not sure how you got that from my post since its based off my experience working with kids and developing brains and nothing to do with American law making.
It's strange that I can unironically say that ageism is a real problem that exists today. Quit demeaning teenagers, seriously people, we're people, just like all the other people that are people on this planet full of people.
Help I'm a teenager and I'm oppressed! Lmao.
at 16 i think you're old enough to make an informed decision about sex and be aware of the possible consequences of having sex.
if the average 16 year old in my country is a good subject for such a question (as in "most 16 year old girls are like this") then good god no.

You know 16 year olds in my country are fucking dumb 90% of the time, but at least they know how to prevent getting pregnant and how to prevent getting abused.
school isn't even finished at that age, so no
If we can trust someone with a 5,000 pound chunk of metal capable of going 95+MPH at age sixteen I'm sure we can also trust them to take and/or give the D at that age as well.

For the most part, I don't doubt it. But I bet there are still a few here or there who'd end up that way.
Still, it wouldn't hurt having the age at 18. It's not like theres that many 16 year olds wanting to get married(I think?...) but if there is the chance...

Have you driven with a 16 year old? Fuck, I cant believe anyone drove with me when I was 16. Cars kill more teens than anything else.. its followed by #2 homicide and #3 suicide on the list of killers.
but you should also note that america is much larger then spain and whilst i dont know what your sex ed is like
id say that at least 50% of that 500k is due to size of the country+population
Spain's per-capita teen preg rate is still around a sixth of the US's. It's an education issue, and you could argue it has to do with conservative definitions of sex ed, and a larger low/middle-low class population
school isn't even finished at that age, so no
It's not finished at 18 either for a lot of people, so that's a shit basis.
it has to do with you know, school teaching teenagers reasoning and judgement skills. if they haven't had enough of that, then maybe they shouldn't partake in something as risky as sex.
They're still going to do it regardless of its legality. Making it illegal only serves to punish people for arbitrary reasons
Age of consent is 15 in Sweden, and we get proper sex ed before that. We also have youth centers everywhere you can turn to for free help, no questions and asked you can even be completely anonymous. Even if your parents asks if you've been there, they are enforced by law to keep quiet. They also hand out free condoms.
This, in my opinion, is how you handle it. Teens are going to have sex regardless of what the laws says. It's better to help them and make sure they do it in a safe manner than taboo it.
I feel like 16 is OK for something for sex, but 18 is good for a long term investment like marriage.
Eighteen is probably closer, but even that is still underdeveloped, especially for women.
This depends entirely where you are from and what background you have. It's only about maturity tbh but even then marriage doesn't make your entirely life a stressful mess, that's only when babies come into play.
Help I'm a teenager and I'm oppressed! Lmao.
Screw off. All you're doing is completely disregarding an actual fucking point and straw-manning it.

It may also be worth it to mention that females enter puberty faster than males. By an average of 1 to 2 years, iirc. So at least from a medical viewpoint, 18 years is developed alright.
And indeed, a marriage between two persons should only alleviate stress, like financial stress.
Yikes, I got rid of my earlier post because I had read wrong.
I'm totally aware of when puberty starts in women. I was more talking about cognitive and mental development. Should have specified though. My bad.

You basically proved my point using many words with this reply. We trust them with cars, which are dangerous, yet we don't want to trust them with their own bodies?

And yet we happily hand them the keys to a car on their sixteenth birthday without a second thought. I find it laughable that something proven to be highly dangerous not only to kids but to everyone around them is almost considered a rite of passage in the Western world, but everyone loses their shit if a teenager so much as gets a handy from a friend. The risk from a quick romp behind the bleachers is FAR lower than the risk from giving them a car, yet we freak out and forbid the former while the latter happens as soon as possible?!
Help I'm a teenager and I'm oppressed! Lmao.
I'm just saying we're human beings being capable of thinking and feelings. Is that hard to disagree with?
The guy talking about 16 being too young made it out as if we were all idiots and were incapable of deciding what was best for us until we'd left school. We know that's not true. I guess there's a chip on my shoulder about this, because my parents believe I don't deserve things like privacy because I don't pay for the house and live in and stuff.
