The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gets mediocre reviews: ala Spiderman 3

Regardless of how the movie was for me, the scene with [sp]peter listening to Gwen's graduation speech[/sp]... oh my god I was actually shaking in my seat it was so chilling.
I really enjoyed seeing it my only issue with it is Andrew Garfield cannot act.
Keep in mind that Avi Arad, the producer of this film (and Spider-Man 3), is also producing the Metal Gear Solid movie.
I fear for the future.
He also did
-All the 1990s Marvel TV shows
-Blade Movies
-Spider-Man 1 & 2
-X-Men
-X2
-Iron Man
-The Incredible Hulk
-The Amazing Spider-Man 1
So yeah please check your facts before saying 2 movies of debatable quality equals an instant failure for anything in the future k
Personally I liked Spiderman 3. The Hitler hair and pimp walk were epic millstones in cinema.
Might go see this. Maybe I'll like it too. I didn't mind the first one but think I prefer the old movie series and cast.
Wasn't the cringeworthiness the whole point of that scene? It reinforced Peter Parker's still an awkward dork off duty that wants to be "cool" - that's why Venom can tempt him with a "cool" power fantasy. The kinda self-absorbed watch-out-we-got-a-badass-over-here "cool" you grow eventually out of, which is part of the reason why you want him to grow out of the suit.
I don't think the concept was executed well, but that scene had its purpose and was, as blunt as it was implemented, painfully effective IMO.
Was it intentionally made to be interpreted that way though?
Considering how shoddily made the rest of spiderman 3 was, I think that they made that scene so bad it became good.

he's actually a really great actor, go watch never let me go
the issue here is direction. Garfield has all the potential to be a great peter parker but they had to make him a rad skateboarder dudebro which fucks it up

It's directed by Sam Raimi, the entire film is self aware
80% love story 10% action 10% faffing about
[sp]I thought the Blue Angels maneuver with the commercial airliners was hilarious[/sp]
I enjoyed it. I like Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker, but it could be made much better. The whole secret science part with his dad was dumb and only served to say "I don't hate you son!" and "NO WORK FOR HARRY" Bloated and unnecessary. I loved eletcro. From his design to the performance. He was actually ominous. And I actually struggled within myself because I felt bad for the guy, but hated him at the same time for attacking innocent people. Which I think is awesome, and doesn't happen very often with villains with me.
The green goblin was absolutely ridiculous. From his performance to his execution. "Help me peter" "I want to but theres some stuff we need to figure out first" "ARG I HATE YOU I WANT TO KILL YOU NOW SUDDENLY". It was dumb. Plus, he was just so hammy. Not enjoyable hammy either like Giamatis performance. It just made me cringe. AND he was brought in so late that he only served to do his thing with Gwen. Waste.
I don't have a problem with Rhino being at the end, I just wish they didn't advertise as him even being in the movie.
I think the dynamic between Peter and Gwen are so real, they feel comfortable one moment, but utterly awkward and clunky the next. Which is actually how things happen for many couples in real life. I thought it was well executed.
My teacher thinks The Amazing Spider-Man is better then the originals because it's "darker". Although I personally haven't seen them yet so I can't say.
I have half a mind to point him towards the honest trailer videos.
The fact that the first one got better reviews just show how much of them are based on hopes/expectations. AMS2 is so much better than the first one. If it was reviewed as a standalone movie it would have done much better.
Also a bunch of critics probably went in comparing it with raimi's spiderman 3 having too many villians.
If you go into a movie having overly high expectations, or trying to figure out ways to hate on it, you're not going to like a movie.
If you go into a movie thinking "Oh it should be pretty cool" then you're more likely going to have a better time enjoying the movie.
