Yes, but the kind of repercussions a celebrity can face for having a lapse of mentality is pretty disgusting. One this is a domestic problem between the two people, any other normal people wouldn't make headlines and people wouldn't care nearly as much. Another is the fact that they are recognized everywhere they go, so things like this can and probably will lead to constant public harassment. Punishment is one thing, but stuff like that is appauling.
If I ever committed a crime, I would hope I was a celebrity. Your assumption that celebrities somehow face the law more harshly in their elevated-social status has no precedence, in demonstrated fact or history. The sentences are extraordinarily lenient for celebrities as witnessed by Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber etc.
holy shit, one post. All of these people, god damn, every single one of them ignorant.
stop putting words in my mouth [editline]28th May 2016[/editline]
clearly a majority opinion around here and not a dumb generalization
ditto
sometimes i gotta wonder the logic of people who think a woman would lie about her abuse just for alimony, especially a funny loophole considering shes getting a restraining order too
Pathological distrust of victims that has emerged from recent scandals of people (predominately women) who turned out to be lying, without understanding that these cases signify a minority of accusations.

What the actual fuck? It would be far less confusing if FP included quotes in quotes.

One this is a domestic problem between the two people, any other normal people wouldn't make headlines and people wouldn't care nearly as much, and would even be considered none of your business. Another is the fact that they are recognized everywhere they go, so things like this can and probably will lead to constant public harassment.
Those words came from the post that was replied to by the post you replied to. It would be far less confusing if FP included quotes in quotes.
re-read that post, and apply yourself this time. tell me where it says "all of these people"
You're right, he's a celebrity, we should just pretend he never beat her then.
Ironically proving the opposite of what he is suggesting, which obviously tons of people do. "I love [celebrity] they would never do that!"
You're right, he's a celebrity, we should just pretend he never beat her then.
Did I say that? Is everything black or white to you?
Where does my post say they are judged more harshly by the law? What the actual fuck?
You said "worse repercussions." What worse repercussion is Mr. Depp going to face other than legal action?
Those words came from the post that was replied to by the post you replied to.
Ironically proving the opposite of what he is suggesting, which obviously tons of people do. "I love [celebrity] they would never do that!"
Yeah I have no idea how people come to those conclusions. Chris Brown makes good music! There's no way someone with a good voice could be capable of violence!
I just have some sympathy for a person who lost their parent the day before, and I can understand the emotions of that person. I can understand not being in control of yourself at your worst moment. Apparently, you're all better than that, and good for you, I'm not, so I can relate. [editline]28th May 2016[/editline] But he's guilty and I'm not trying to dismiss that.
You said "worse repercussions." What worse repercussion is Mr. Depp going to face other than legal action? You should probably stop posting on your PlayStation 4 then since you seem confused.
I'm not confused, I was referring to his confusion. Also, by worse reprecussions, I mean by what I said later on in my fucking post. Things such as public harassment. and the fact that your fuck up is put on the world stage.
Did I say that? Is everything black or white to you?

Of course, I just don't think it's right for the public to villify the guy is all.

One this is a domestic problem between the two people ... and would even be considered none of your business.
quotes
Yeah, those posts don't say that. I was talking about villify in the social sense. I thought that should go without saying jesus christ. The other post you quoted is straight up blatantly referring to social reprecussions.
Yeah, those posts don't say that. I was talking about villify in the social sense. I thought that should go without saying jesus christ. The other post you quoted is straight up blatantly referring to social reprecussions.
Why don't you think it is right for the public to "vilify" Mr. Depp? If I beat my wife, it will show on my public criminal record and I will not be able to get a job because everyone will already know. Why is Mr. Depp not supposed to get the same vilification that everyone else would get? Don't say he is going endure public harassment. He is not going to endure shit other than a temporary increase of paparazzi over beating his wife.

If we're not pretending it didn't happen then that leaves him beating her, which obviously is a bad thing.
Chris Brown plead guilty, didn't he? And he's still making music and winning awards like nothing happened. I highly doubt a popular actor like Depp will face many social repercussions tbh. If anything, his wife will likely face more vilification than him for going through with this at all.

I just don't think one or even several episodes throughout a person's lifetime is enough to justify painting him as a violent nutcase.
What makes you think that paparazzi is his or any celebrity's only problem when it comes to being in public? I just don't think one or even several episodes throughout a person's lifetime is enough to justify painting him as a violent nutcase.
What's the minimum amount of beaten spouses before you can be considered violent then?
What makes you think that paparazzi is his or any celebrity's only problem when it comes to being in public? I just don't think one or even several episodes throughout a person's lifetime is enough to justify painting him as a violent nutcase.
What is going to happen that is going to make Mr. Depp's life seem so shitty all-of-a-sudden to you? If you beat your wife as a celebrity, the consequences are so abysmally small compared to beating your wife as a private citizen. The range of opportunities a celebrity has to engage in life is infinite compared to the private citizen who now has a public criminal record. The private citizen effectively made himself ineligible to arguably over 50% of life's offerings (i.e. employment). Mr. Depp will continue to remain eligible to raking in millions of dollars annually and a well-receptive social life. Whereas if a private citizen did the same thing, he can kiss most of his aspirations goodbye for life.
Ideally we would sympathize that both parties are having a rough go and hope for them to overcome their struggle.
Glad we've circled back to excusing him for beating her.
Ideally we would sympathize that both parties are having a rough go and hope for them to overcome their struggle.
I predict that you're about to make a bunch of "no that's not what I meant and you know it" posts.
Ideally we would sympathize that both parties are having a rough go and hope for them to overcome their struggle.
"Would hope for both parties to overcome their struggle" Jesus Christ your extenuating wording is inexcusable. This is not an "equal-dispute" in which both sides must leverage their struggle, this is a one-sided domestic violence case.
Chris Brown plead guilty, didn't he? And he's still making music and winning awards like nothing happened. There was also a lot of "innocent until proven guilty" tweets.
Glad we've circled back to excusing him for beating her.
That's not what I'm saying at all. At this point you're just reading to reply. I've voiced my input, have a good day. Have a good one. (User was banned for this post ("Good bye" - Starpluck))

Awful strawmen arguments are more rife on FP than any other forum I've used
A filthy rich couple getting into a fight? Hollywood wife with a slightly blackened eye? I don't even know which one to blame here, and for what.
