I don't agree with building a memorial at all, if you've seen the grounds the crater is enough to remember. =\
How long is this going to take?

You know what I don't get? Why didn't the terrorists target the statue of liberty? It would be a much more iconic target, and would truly cripple American morale.
then they would have been noticed more. but i do agree about the statue of liberty thing
I still think this design should have been built:

I don't get it
God damn. I drive down by the site every week thinking "You know, in three years, it's gonna look like fucking Star Trek" and now I'm all like "...make that thirty". Seriously, there's no reason that this construction can't go faster. Every time I go down there, it looks like no progress is being made.

True Dat. I truly didn't know about the Twin Towers before 9-11
but when we up our security to where we are almost giving up civil liberty's IE spying, torture, and going into a war that lasts 8 years and we have not gotten anything done and just splitting the country even more, wouldn't that be terrorism succeeding?
I mean 9/11 was a fuse, and we over reacted and went to war over some stupid shit.
IE WMD that were obviously not found.
Protip: Iraq War=/=started by 9/11
Everybody in the nation with a braincell and the ability to understand the situation or watch the news would know that the Iraq War literally had nothing to do with 9/11.
The point of terrorism is to cause terror. By not rebuilding we'd be showing terrorists that they've succeeded in scaring us. By moving on and rebuilding we're sending a message. (That message being something along the lines of, "Fuck you.")

what if they decide to run a plane into it again and give a big 'fuck you' back at us
I mean if I was a terrorist I'd be pretty pissed that people are trying to remake the building that I worked so hard to destroy
The Planes itself did not bring down the towers, it was the resulting flames fueled by the kerosene(it is kerosene that is used in planes right?) that caused it. If the planes had crashed into the tower with low fuel the towers would have survived with moderate damage around the area where they hit. Also had the towers' steel structure had better fireproofing the towers would still be standing.
Basically all a rebuild of the towers would need are more protected stairwells and better fireproofing and a plane hitting the towers would not bring them down. The death toll would be less also since with more protected staircases people can safely get out of the building from above the impact zone.
We should rebuild the towers, only this time we somehow rebuild them in the shape of a giant middle finger.

how about a runway?
Not true. Thread is fake. The article is gone and is not even official. The first picture is not what the original architect had planned. Sorry OP but there won't even be a second WTC.
Thats gonna look awesome when it explodes.
I don't get it
It reads "KISS MY ASS" across the towers in a bunch of different languages.
The memorial for the towers in the picture looks like it would be an ass to fall in.

yeah, the wtc were designed on the basis of steel skinned aircraft, not shattering, fragmenting aluminum, which basically shotgun'd the fireproofing right off the central supports. heat from sticky jet fuel did the rest. they were specifically designed to survive a plane ramming, and survived a massive bomb at the base already.
Empire State building took 4 seconds of planning (I am exaggerating of course) and took 18 months to build. With all our technology we could finish this in just a couple years or so. But we have spent 8 years planning it...
jesus shit, seriously? the construction workers around my town can't even widen a road in that period of time.
