An argument about this would be better than one about DADT. Anyways, not wanting to pass a bill because of portions of it they disagree with and would like to work to change != taking hostage. The GOP pledged to hold up [I]all[/I] Senate business until their pet bill gets passed. That's incredibly petty of them, don't you think?

Thats stupid and you know it. The bush Era tax cuts are idiotic. Those tax cuts are meant to stimulate the economy, They've been there since before our economic crisis. They're meant to stimulate the economy and they're obviously not doing so. The unemployment bill will help keep people out of foreclosure and help people keep food on the table for their families.

Unit cohesion was always a funny one to me, obviously they don't have any gay friends.
The situations they are talking about where they rely on the men at their side don't happen immediately and don't just happen because they are also straight. The training and bonding normally associated with forming unit cohesion would not affect gays any different to straight people. They would come to trust them just as much as any soldier. If they don't, it's not like the gay guy is the odd one out. There's plenty of different friendship groups within a unit and if there's a few guys who don't like the gay guy then it's not much different to the few guys that don't like the Democrat or the black guy or the stupid one. It's just another difference that they get over soon enough.

Well mainstream conservative politicians openly opposed integration of the armed services, the Civil Rights Act, and a repeal of don't ask, don't tell. I don't know how it's a stereotype when it's pretty much part of being a conservative.

The point I was trying to make was that the conservatives are using the exact same argument for DADT as they were for segregation of the military and both have no basis in fact.
