Amazon unveils 30-minute delivery by drone, hopes to launch in 2015

What if multiple people start taking/vandalizing the drones. They couldn't possibly send out someone to every single incident
I hope they don't plan on operating in Iran.
The only serious problems with these things are navigation, range and flying conditions.
Have the items/packages themselves encased in some hardened, disposable container and when the drone reaches its destination, it lowers the package via some crane like arm until it's a certain distance above the ground before dropping it. It would still be out of reach for the average person though.
As for the drone itself, tag it with a GPS and arm it with some plastic airsoft pellets or something? V:v:V
this is an incredibly convoluted solution when an easy one is available.
have an expensive security deposit on the drone. once the drone leaves your house safely, the security deposit is refunded.
Honestly, having some sort of Lo-Jack device that tracks the drone and starts SCREAMING when someone who isn't authorized to touch it goes for it, and you probably have a pretty effective anti-theft system.
Hell, have it scream I AM BEING STOLEN, I AM BEING STOLEN or some shit like that and I'm sure any thief would drop it like a hot lead brick.
What's to stop people taking the drones??
Same thing that stops people from stealing from mailboxes
Just seen this on 60 minutes. You guys should watch the whole amazon interview, it's quite good.

"self destruct sequence activated, thermonuclear detonation in 10, 9, 8..."
They have your address I think it's safe to say that the people having something delivered to them wouldn't steal the drone unless they're stupid.
They have your GPS coordinates, and hopefully they can organize it so that they deliver it at a time that you're home so that nobody takes your package.

So nothing. :v:
Wow just reading this is amazing for just thinking about the possibilities.
Imagine driving a Drone Carrier- a van that cruises round with a GPS, looking for downed drones and recovering the package. Give the package to a fresh drone off the rack and putting the downed one on charge or taking it back to the shop for repairs.
so what happens when a redneck loaded with birdshot starts firing at them

doesn't using a van to recover the downed drone completely defeat the purpose of using them in the first place?
So if someone else decides to fuck up the drone, you get to pay for their actions? Neat!
that's why i said once it leaves your house safely. no doubt these would have cameras on them anyways.
that video's gotta be a prototype or something, it looks way too slow to be a 30 minute delivery
Wouldn't trust this to be honest.
Anything I'd want bad enough to pay out the ass for shipping is gonna be valuable and I can't imagine how many things could go wrong with this.
Doesn't stop it being cool as fuck though.
doesn't using a van to recover the downed drone completely defeat the purpose of using them in the first place?
Ok fine. We send a van out to pick up the drone, then we send a drone out to pick up the van and bring it back
mid-air collision
copies of the big bang theory and dildoes everywhere
Ok fine. We send a van out to pick up the drone, then we send a drone out to pick up the van and bring it back
but who recovers the drone that recovered the van that recovered the drone? i feel like an old lady who just swallowed a fly...
Private drones have come extremely far extremely quickly, they're no longer "go to x height, go to x coordinates, drop to x height, return to x coordinates", they're now capable of in-flight mathematical corrections and calculations beyond basic stabilization and routines.
What if something happens before it even gets to your home?
then you don't pay the deposit.

If I could vote you dumb more than once I would. Hard to believe people still think using robots is a convoluted solution, but then again I'm still surprised that some people fail high school.

You realize this is a THEORETICAL concept still in the works right? This obviously isn't the final model
doesn't using a van to recover the downed drone completely defeat the purpose of using them in the first place?
How? By 'downed' I mean it's gotten stuck in a tree, broken, run out of battery midflight etc.

using robots is convoluted when there are simpler solutions available.
this is stupid amazon should just build conveyor belts up to everyones door
using robots is convoluted when there are simpler solutions available.
exactly, like conveyor belts
using robots is convoluted when there are simpler solutions available.
Yeah, like using people driving cars right?
So shortsighted.
cars are stupid roads should just be conveyor belts
i personally want amazon to invest in swarms of carrier pigeons
Yeah, like using people driving cars right?

or just putting a security deposit on the uav...i mean that's simple and makes it so you don't have to build a drone with a bunch of arms and platforms and other silly shit.

impeach cubeman, zeke is someone who provides real solutions to our problems.
Holy shitbuckets even though it's probably gonna take a long time to catch on, it's rad as hell.
it can only ship small stuff though?
and it has to be close to the warehouse?
