People should vote based on their values, not based on the fearmongered bullshit of "trump/clinton is going to turn america in to a 3rd world nation and is a nazi/communist/next incarnation of hitler"
I agree
I think you should vote for someone based on how good you think they'll be for the country
which is why I think not voting for either because you don't like them even though you think one would be better for the country is a very selfish thing to do
if you honestly think both trump and clinton are equally qualified for the position of president and that they'd both do an equally good job, I would strongly disagree with you, but I would respect your decision to not vote for either
if however, you think one would be even marginally better than the other, then clearly the "ethical" choice is to vote for them, no matter what your personal feelings about them as a person are.

Its not about picking the best candidate or anything, its about picking the opposite of the guy you like the least, even if the opposite is still just fucking awful.
it may be pointless in the overall grand scheme of things, but i won't compromise my integrity by going with the majority.

Personally I'd abstain from voting for either candidate.
From what I have read in this thread: people are willing to sacrifice a lot, including ethics - maybe too much.
The thing is, the people who are voting between Trump and Clinton actually care about which one wins. I genuinely want Clinton to win and Trump to lose. It's not about "going with the majority", it's about looking at the situation you're presented with: Trump or Clinton, and choosing the outcome you think would be best for the country.
If you guys honest-to-god do not care which one of them wins, then so be it. I just hope you've considered all the aspects about either of their presidencies, and not just what it means to you, but what it means to the people around you.
I'm a straight white man, most of Trump's bigotry doesn't affect me. But it would affect my best friend, who is Mexican. It'd affect my gay friend. It'd affect my sister. It'd affect so many people I know, and I will do anything I can to prevent someone who discriminates against so many Americans be elected president.
it's a shame that many young americans who now are of age and able to vote, including me, are forced to pick between two candidates who really just don't seem fit for the job. I hate elections that come down to "who is the lesser of two evils" which of course seems like most elections, but this one in particular is pretty bad. the more news I hear of both trump and clinton, the more I really want to just abstain, but it's not worth it.
So the FBI gets their info, and then destroys it to stop it from being tampered with/stolen?
What's the problem?
That's the best fucking part. Normandie's throwing a shit fit and acting like it's a big deal when what's happened here is standard opsec for sensitive information. Note that the laptops would only be destroyed AFTER the FBI had reviewed the data stored on them.
there is literally no problem in abstaining from a popular election, since it doesn't have an effect on the electoral college.

I'm in the same boat. This is my first time voting for the general election, I was seriously contemplating on not voting at all. Both are fucking awful, but if there's a shot of picking the lesser of the two evils, you might as well roll with it.
Just to be clear, I'm not supporting Hillary because I want to, I'm supporting her because I have to.
what is the point of ethics if they lead you to make choices that leave the world worse off

Moral implication behind supporting X candidate isn't a simple tick in the box - rather you pledge to get them into office - despite what they have all done, or will do. It must be a pretty hard decision to make TBH - vote for Hillary and say you're O.K with corruption, immunity to the law and American values etc - or go for Trump who's essentially similar but only more vocal and rude about it.
The only seemingly justification put into it is "well, I think X is more evil" - or am I wrong?

If voting for someone means you endorse everything about them and everything they've ever done, then you shouldn't be able to vote for anyone in good faith.
All your vote means is that you think one is better than the other for the job. That's it.
Can we please mulligan and give Obama another year while we start the elections over?

??
Who said it wasn't?
I thought it was well established that there were classified emails on the server.

Even better is they don't even review the data right from the drive. They create a bit-by-bit copy of the drive while using a hardware write-blocker with (I'm guessing) either Access Data Forensic Toolkit (FTK) or Encase Forensic both of which are really powerful (though of the two I have only used FTK) and they analyze the data from whichever program, possibly both.

Let me put this in perspective for you, make it simple enough that even you can understand it.
On one hand, we've got a corrupt politician who basically bought her nomination at the DNC, mishandled classified data, is allegedly connected to the killings at the Benghazi embassy if you're a conspiratard, and is a corporate shill. She has sensible economic and domestic policies that will lead to sustainable economic growth and long term stability.
On the other we have a bigot who doesn't know shit about government, panders to degenerates, wants to turn the country into an apartheid state and a create a witch hunt against minority groups in his own country, wants to strip minorites of their legal protections, strip American workers of their rights, blames immigrants for the problems caused by fiscally conservative policies, has proposed environmental, economic and foreign policies that are bound to turn America into a third-world shithole (Worse than it is already, anyway), has so thin a skin and is so horribly insecure that he resorts to name-calling that's less creative than what you might hear in an elementary school, has cheated people he hired to do work out of their pay, has ideologies that might be more at home in the late nineteenth century, takes credit for donations made by OTHER people to his charity, and then steals the same money from that charity to buy two portraits of himself. He dodges taxes and refuses to follow tradition and release his tax returns, denies statements that he made, that there's video of him making, and responds by repeating the lie when he's called out on it. He's so irresponsible that he's sued an accomplished chef for withdrawing his five-star restaurant from Trump's property without even knowing the details of the agreement he signed with the man. He blamed his shitty debate performance on everything from the moderator to a bad mic to his campaign staff, and took none of the responsibility for his compulsion to lie every time he opens his mouth.

Gee, I wonder which of the two is a safer bet as Commander in Chief of the most powerful military and nuclear arsenal in the world.
Whoever could it be?
Guess what, bud. Trump's done. Look at the polls, the writing's on the wall. Very few people are a fan of Hillary, but most of America realizes that they've got to pick the one less likely to irreparably damage the country.
Trump and his degenerate supporters are powerless to stop it. And that's the best fucking news I've had all year.
And how is Trump's tax plan any better? The one that can't pay for the nation's budget and would wreck our economy?

The President doesn't set the budget. The House of Representatives do. It terrifies me that people like you talk shit about others for differing views when you don't even know that capabilities of the office.

This coming from the guy who accused the left of coining the term "Alt-right"? Hah.
corrupt politician who has never produced anything and worked in politics all her life taking other peoples money at gunpoint versus a man who has his name on buildings, has created real value and employment opportunities, and wishes to secure our borders so that illegal immigrants who take advantage of the welfare state dont cause complete economic collapse?
lesser of two evils huh
I've spoken about this before in other threads, but its really easy to talk about how much better a candidate is when you deliberately cherrypick views to support your case and use incredibly sensationalist language
Sure, Hillary is seen as a pretty bad candidate for the reasons you mention, but she has not 'never produced anything' and she doesn't 'take other people's money at gunpoint', I mean christ, she's a politician not a gangland killer. In fact if Hilary hadn't been blocked by congress in 93, Americans would have had universal healthcare for 23 years which is something people like to conveniently forget
While Trump has created employment opportunities no doubt, he has a certifiable record of stiffing workers, not paying contracts and playing dirty in business, and also his idea to secure american borders is to build a wall and get mexico to pay for it because he is the dullest crayon in the box
So sure, you could say Hilary is a corrupt politician and Trump is a successful businessman but you could using the exact same facts say that Hilary is an experienced statesman and Trump is a career criminal.
Seriously its like this election has just brought out the children in everyone and thinking is no longer something that's considered worthwhile so long as we're all scared enough of something. Trump supporters like to think they're immune and that Clinton supporters are just scared of someone who says what he thinks, but they're just as scared of Clinton as Clinton supporters are of Trump.

Hilary is obviously the better choice, but honestly, being better than Donald Trump is not something to brag about. The people in this thread defending either candidate are really stretching for justification or rationale, they're both terrible, Hilary is just ordinary terrible, Trump is catastrophically terrible.
Why are so many Americans actively voting against they're own interests? I don't understand.

It was right wing bloggers on the internet who coined the term.

Clinton first talked about the Alt-right in a speech in August 25, 2016.

You, Ridge, are an idiot with no respect for facts, much like Trump. You should know by now that just saying something doesn't make it automatically true, especially when you're trying to convince people smarter than you.
Why are so many Americans actively voting against they're own interests? I don't understand.

I legit think it's not going to matter. ya but she has been put under a microscope foe 20 years and hasnt been found guilty of anything, but trump has been doing some awful shit and as evidence by dozens of court cases and rulings and settlements, he was guilty of perpetuating
now when faced with that the trump supporters i know dont even acknowledge it, they say hes a good business guy and hes always being attacked for it
