• Was air shutdown really necessary?

If just a tiny bit of smoke gets in a plane's engines, the entire engine will shut down because of the tiny-ass particles in the smoke.
Airspace is shut down: OH GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT LOOK AT THE DELAYS YOU HAVE CAUSED Airspace isn't shut down: OH GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT LOOK AT THE THOUSANDS OF LIVES THAT HAVE BEEN LOST Which would you pick?
They need to come up with engines that can handle even the smallest things without shit going up in flames.
It WAS necessary, without a shadow of doubt
I was supposed to fly out last Saturday (From Ireland) At first I was annoyed, but I realised it would have been to much of a risk!
My dad was stuck in Malloca. So yes it was necessary. But really yes it was. There's been several plane crashes from flying into ash clouds in the past. And I doubt they would want all their planes to crash.
Does anybody REEEAAAALLLY think they'd cause worldwide chaos, leave millions of tourists stranded and lose billions of pounds in profit if it wasn't necessary? Don't be so stupid.
You know, last time I checked, ash was concrete :colbert: I don't think flying through concrete is a good idea.
As some of my family were involved, I'd say yes
Oh no of course not. Let's totally take chances with people's lives.
Why are people moaning? They would've been moaning more had the planes been allowed to fly and one had crashed.
Europeans always moan when things don't go their way.
You know, last time I checked, ash was concrete :colbert: I don't think flying through concrete is a good idea.
Then we should build planes made of concrete.
Europeans always moan when things don't go their way.
Truth of the motherfucking century right there.
The closure of airspace has potentially fucked my life up pretty badly, I now have to stay in the US an additional 20 days because of this shit. I have important exams quite soon after I arrive home and I will have no time to revise - the exams will basically determine if I can go to university or not. Fuck you Iceland you shitty little country.
my name is ash
This faggot is the source of all our damn problems.
I believe that it was, what with the chances the planes could crash.
Yes, that ash can cause serious damage to jet engines with all the silicon and other materiel in it.
Who cares? I loved the sky without to fugly trails.
Yeah, the giant looming black ash cloud of doom is twenty times more badass
Do you even know what ash does to planes? OFC it was necessary....
FYI, it's possible to fly above the ash. (Let's completely ignore takeoff/landing, shall we? :p) [editline]11:21PM[/editline] Actually, i haven't seen any ash yet, and i live in Norway (which is VERY close by the way)
That might be the dumbest fucking question I've ever heard.
Europeans always moan when things don't go their way.
So does everyone else when they can't find any fast and reliable transport all out of sudden.
Yes. Why? Because aside from the fact that it's is a case of "better safe than sorry", imagine the uproar that would have taken place if there had been an accident.
Who ever says no doesn't understand how volcanic ash can fuck planes up.
The only people who don't think this was necessary are uneducated idiots who think "It's just a bit of dust in the air, it's not exactly going to harm the plane :downs:"
Turbines cannot function in ash clouds, they almost learned this the hard way when one 747 flew through a cloud, it lost all engines while in the cloud. Luckily they were able to land safely.
better safe than sorry safety first etc
Who are the 63 people that voted no?
Ash can turn into glass when heated. The Planes Engines are hotter than an oven. Hmmm?
