why do video games make people so angry
I think it's really funny how one of my former friends who is a massive PC elitist thinks DNF is amazing. She was a fan of 2010 Medal of Honor too :v:.
How is she even a PC elitist then?
Take-Two should be hyping up GTA5 now to save them. Waiting till 2013 is risky. If they announced it and pumped media this year they could get it out by next and start to recover sooner.
Saw my friend playing this at my lan party last week, we both went meh let's play red alert 2.
ITT: People Thinking DNF was going to be the next call of duty...
I feel bad for Take-Two. And for all your motherfuckers who keep bashing that DNF was a bad game, tell me, what were your fucking expectations? What were your fucking expectations on for DNF? They had to make the game more adjustable to today's terms because if they did it DN3D style, it'd be as easy as shit. I've only played the demo since I can't afford atm, but I had a damn good time with that. The demo also gave me the Duke I was wanting for. Seriously, I know DNF isn't GOTY material, but the game looks good (I've seen walkthroughs). And if you want a Duke game to bash on, bash on this one, this one is pure utter shit.
I expected something less bland
Duke Nukem Forever was meh. It's not bad, it's just not great, it wasn't what everyone was expecting.
Duke Nukem Forever was meh. It's not bad, it's just not great, it wasn't what everyone was expecting.
It's average in nearly every way. Certainly not a horrible game though.
I was in EB Games the other day and saw that Duke Nukem was on sale for like $80 (as opposed to the $110 or something that it 'should' be... I'm in Australia, btw: hence the high prices) and I was wondering to myself do individual stores HAVE to stock certain games? Like do the guys running EB Games as a company send out a list and say, "you have to buy 'x' units of this new game to sell?" Does the company as a whole (EB Games in this case) pay for the games and have them sent to their individual stores, or do individual stores have to purchase the games themselves to sell? If it's the former: no biggy I guess. EB as a company runs at a loss, but the individual stores aren't hurt too badly. If they need to buy certain games however, and it's out of an individuals stores pocket: that'd suck biiiiiig time.

They probably did the same with Duke, dropping the sales to increase numbers.
The expectations for the game (all its years in developement) meant it was doomed to fail. The game looks fun, but people expected way to much of it
How is she even a PC elitist then?
She hates L4D2, loves the fuck out of STALKER, despises consoles, loves DOOM & Quake and older shooters, and hits most of the stereotypes for PC Master Race. She'll still play stuff though like bc2 and Brink so :v:.

I got about a minute in before realising that it was DSP. That guy is such a jabbering moron, of course he'd think that a game that drops this low is being "UNFAIRLY REPRESENTED BY THE GAMING MEDIA". The "Gaming Media", by the way, are jabbering morons of a standard ABOVE this man. That shows you the kind of man we're talking about.
Who would have known! /sarcasm
I decided to not buy the game because of that demo the first access club got. It showcased extremely generic and boring gameplay. It was nothing like the fast paced in Duke Nukem 3D, because they absolutely HAD to implement regen health which slows down the pace significantly. I think they should've stayed with healthpacks and armor, along with having more than just two fucking weapons.
This is what happens when you make/publish shitty games. You lose money.
COD series. I'm probably horribly late.
a terrible game that appeals to a larger audience is still a terrible game
I got all excited and preordered-then I was exposed to the critic's attacks on it and decided to wait until the price drooped by about 90%

Oh man, gonna repost this old thing from the megathread. Don't read this if you're just going to post hurr sift we already know, don't even bother just going to compile a list of things most people don't like. Even shit I don't agree with just for those curious as to why it is getting blasted like it is. For the record though, I agree with most of his points and even the score he gave it (6-6.5/10) but there's a few things I think he got wrong and a few things he ended up getting confused on. Mostly him saying "You don't need all the weapons it made it to easy!", no it was never easy because of the number of weapons you have, it was more interesting as it gave you a shit ton more options on how to approach a situation, Duke 3D had a shit ton of awesome weapons that you could cycle through that weren't seen in previous titles, let alone a goddamn jetpack. What makes his argument confusing to me personally is not 5 minutes after he points that out he complains that the Duke Burger rooftop scene he didn't have enough guns to handle a situation and was forced to die. This kind of goes against what he just said as if he had all the other weapons he'd be able to just pull out a expander or something and go to town. The game doesn't feel 1990's, is another complaint I've seen though one I personally don't fully care about. Duke runs like a typical fps hero and is unable to fire, he's much slower, there's no jet packing or backtracking through levels no secret areas, the game has regen health (for better or worse) and is heavily reliant on stopping the player and forcing them to check out this "Super cool scene". I don't care if the game stops me to show me a cool scene, just make the plot interesting, please. The game feels like a mishmash of "me too" ideas, which is one of the reasons some of the early levels catch flack. The shrunken race car overstaying it's welcome, the hive had... ball pushing puzzles? Could they even be considered puzzles? Stuff like the Duke statue was awesome and creative but some of the levels were just there to pad out length, Titty City being another example. A fetch quest in a FPS with nothing going on is just pointless and breaks the flow, maybe for it to flow better have the first part of the game rescue babes, after the Duke Dome the aliens seem to have left and it's just Duke on his downtime, when suddenly mid lap dance or whatever general comes in "Hey Duke the aliens never left their at the Dam opening a portal!" or something. The game breaks it's flow by adding in stuff that just doesn't make sense. The pacing is all off for some parts like this. Then theirs the games humor. Someone over at SA said it better then me, Duke in 3D was supposed to be a parody of 80's action stars, he was just some asshole in a red shirt who stole movie quotes and was just overwhelmed with how silly things were saying "holy cow!!" to shit and generally being a playful parody. Duke Nukem Forever however forgets for the most part that it is a parody and seems like it's trying to take itself to seriously. Duke is played like a actual bone-afied badass instead of a parody of one and the humor in a lot of peoples opinion takes a hit as it just defaults to "Look how cool Duke is, you will never be Duke!" and when it's not doing that it's acting like it's script is written by 3 year old's who discovered the word fuck. Dylan was the most unfunny piece of shit the game could of added and I won't bother posting his intro again, but the humor just kind of tried to hard. In the original you were laughing at Duke, this one seems to want you to laugh with him. The Hive in general being another thing, you can tell people to man up or not be a pussy or whatever. While tasteless and just kind of... awkward I personally didn't care a whole lot and just ignored it, but to pretend that everyone would like it while hiding behind the facade of "It's a parody so it's okay get over it" is kind of dumb. Once again in Duke3D they had a single gravely "kill me" line while covered in green whips or randomly sitting in a puddle of ooze or something. In Forever they're (literally) tied to giant pulsating dicks making what I'm not sure if I'd call it a joke on how someone slipped them a roofie or crying out for family members. You'd have to be thick to think everyone forever would be okay with it, and a lot of reviews I see all say that they just felt it was unneeded and were uncomftrable with how it was handled. Duke himself is the last thing a lot of people have trouble with, the fact he seems more full of himself while previously all his incarnations were once again parodies apparently really doesn't sit well with people. Just as a comparison and I'll leave it at that. Old Duke: New Duke: People think he's played as too much of a asshole now and usually post the boxart to support it. That's up to you to decide though. Not getting into the level design itself as it's kind of universal that Early game is best, Hive is dumb for most, Desert is meh and fuck the underwater section but yeah. This is generally what I've found surrounding the hate for the game, yeah it's not 3.5 material but I think part of the reason it got that score is, unlike Phil here, they don't have all the time in the world to play a game, they have to play through it in a single sitting or two, write up their thoughts on it quickly, and shove it out the door to meet deadlines. Reviewers from what I understand don't get a good chance to fuck around with the in game worlds of any game and just have to see it start to finish, so yeah you might be able to fuck around a lot and it's cool, but to them they might not of gotten the choice and just had to sit through it at it's core functionality. Last thing I can think up is the general anger torwards Duke spouting internet memes. Leeroy Jenkins, ???? Profit (yes I know it came from south park) and whatnot is rubbing people the wrong way, and reusing almost all the 3D lines they could is just insult to injury to some, it's like yahtzee mentioned with portal 2 on ZP, a good joke lives it's life and it doesn't have to be hammered in for a quick laugh. Portal 2 had exactly one cake joke, and it wasn't even said outloud and could be missed if you're not paying attention. Duke 3D repeats a bunch of jokes without really understanding the punchline "That's one dead space marine!" and his usual taunts for when he's kicking ass, there's not enough new and it feels like it's just retreading what was already done. And then it makes a cake joke. Anyway time to sit back and wait for the people who didn't read it and think this is all my opinions and leave stupid replies. tl;dr IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE HE SAID FUCK Xdd, is it really surprising that this didn't do well? "Power armor is for pussies" Duke announces joyfully. Very next loading screen may say "Think of your ego like your shield" It would be funny if a: remove that asshole at the start, it ain't funny or b: Duke didn't do exactly what he's making fun of.
DNF is not terrible. It's average.
DNF is average as far as gameplay goes but the dialogue and the fact that it tries really hard to be meta makes it terrible overall
you retards wait 10 years for the game and now you say it sucked shitballs
fun and humorous if you're a god damn 10 year-old
"Look how mature I am guys!"
DNF is like an interactive movie. It's kinda boring, and is B quallity.
According to them the game is a polished game from 2001. Which is where they moved to unreal, and where the delays and trouble started. If this game was out in it's intended year, you'd all be jizzing your pants over it. But 2001 is around the time games of this genre started to be copied and became what we call today, "Generic" It's every bit better than Crap of duty: black cops, and that gets 9's. DNF is only low rated because people are pissed because they didn't get a DOOM clone-like game such as what they got in 1996. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
most of the jokes were "OOOH BOOBIES HAHAH FUK HELL ASS DIK HEHEHEHEHE MORE BOOBIES :))))"

ITT: People who have not played Duke Nukem Forever commenting
[editline]7th July 2011[/editline] Also, this "news" is extremely fucking late
La Noire will make up for it.
bull shit, black ops was at least enjoyable and the guns felt moderately powerful (hell, the sounds were fucking weird but they had a sense of power to them unlike dnfs fucking "bbgun.wav" for everything) the campaign was varied, didn't change up the gameplay too much and whenever it did it didn't do badly (no driving a fucking rc car with shitty physics) and it's multiplayer had shit to do in it as well as zombies dnf has uh, dick jokes, floaty enemies, bullet sponge bosses, and a fucked multiplayer that barely works
CoD fanboy who hasn't even played it. "Campaign doesn't change up the gameplay too much" Yeah that's definitely a good thing /sarcasm CoD is boring, generic, straight up linear, short, with run and gun MP. I played through it once and it had to be the shortest game I ever played. Tried playing it again and it made me feel sick and never played it again, got rid of it Edit: It's like you didn't even read the post and saw the words "CoD" in a negative sentence then got butthurt
i've played till the water level part in dnf as that was my shit threshold, the fact that cod doesn't change up is good as it provides a consistent standpoint gameplaywise, you like it or you don't, the game doesn't appeal to those who already don't like it, dnf tries to appeal to every gamer and falls flat on all aspects, and i read your post, the fact that you used cod was something to point out as that game at least stands on its core principles and does it right (crazy cinematic actiony shlock, which is good for what it is)
If it's gonna be the same obvious "oh look shoot that thing" it is the entire campaign I'd rather not. The MP in DNF does work, if it didn't before that was because it was deactivated on purpose for until it hit all countries. MP doesn't really matter, there are more important things. Such as availability. Duke mac announcement: Current CoD games mac announcement: Anyways, stop trying to turn the thread into a "CoD is best gaem evar!!!1!" thread.
What do you expect from a game that took 12 years to be built and that changed hundreds of times which, in the end, turned into a pretty generic shooter. All of this in the CoD Era.
yeah cods compaign is shoot shit, and that's what it does best, it has 3102933213123 sales for a reason the mp in dnf barely functions on consoles and even on pc, i got fucktons of latency and it just wasn't even fun when i had a playable latency who gives a rats ass about promotion for games? even if dnf was promoted by handing out free beer and women to anyone who played it at e3 id still suspect a rushed pile of dongs and the reason for my cod "fanboyism" in a few threads is because it's a solid game that is fun for what it is and many people bash on it because they are being hipster dickholes who barely even game in the first place.
It's like you don't even read You just instantly ignore what I say and blow up about how CoD is great and how any other game is shit. "Promotions" who the fuck said anything about promotions, I'm talking about support and availability Blaming your connection on the game while you're connecting to servers all over the world without reading. (Assuming you aren't since you don't seem to be now!) Done explaining anything to you, you're like any other CoD fanboy, too dumb to listen/read any point and just talk about CoD and then go off with your trashy vocabulary.
