Seselj, who helped incite the ethnic cleansing of parts of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia in the 1990s — by recruiting volunteer fighters and calling non-Serbs “primates,” vampires” and “excrement” — was acquitted of crimes against humanity and war crimes in a split decision by a panel of three judges at the United Nations court in The Hague in March. ... According to Balkan Insight, a website financed by the European Commission, Seselj has continued to support the goal of a “Greater Serbia,” and still calls Bosnia “undoubtedly Serbian.” “If the Muslim fundamentalists don’t like that,” he added, “they can pack their bags and leave.” Radical nationalists in Serbia justified their brutal assault on civilians in Bosnia by claiming, falsely, that the largely secular population of Slavs who adopted Islam centuries ago during Ottoman rule were secretly Muslim extremists. More than 100,000 people were killed in the ensuing campaign of murder, rape and intimidation initiated by Serb forces and the wars that followed. Seselj had already endorsed Trump’s candidacy during the Republican primary campaign in January, writing on Twitter: “I call on brother Serbs who live in the USA to strongly support Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections.”
Source. Trump sure does attract "interesting" crowds of people worldwide.
funny, me and my friends joked about this earlier. not surprised at all, serbias more backwards than any other balkan state fixed because the (bad) joke didn't translate too well
funny, me and my friends joked about this earlier. not surprised at all, serbias more backwards than the balkans themselves.
Serbia is in the Balkans?? How can you be "more backwards" than something you're a part of?
funny, me and my friends joked about this earlier. not surprised at all, serbias more backwards than the balkans themselves.
You know why the Balkans were Balkanized right?
Serbia is in the Balkans?? How can you be "more backwards" than something you're a part of?
that's the joke the balkans itself is still rather backwards considering they still refuse to get along with each other for nationalistic and territorial reasoning serbia however has been the center of many events that has caused all the countries around them to have more problems. there's racial/ethnic hatred and then there's hatred that leads to actual ethnic cleansing in several countries.
Don't worry SonicHitman, one day we'll solve our differences of involving our clay.
the balkans itself is still rather backwards considering they still refuse to get along with each other for nationalistic and territorial reasoning
Look, I'm not trying to defend the extreme nationalism found in some of the populace in the Balkans, however you can't honestly expect the countries here to forget all the shit that their neighbours have pulled off during more than 500 years of history together. Every little piece of land here has been fought over, and not just by the Balkan countries themselves, so many other empires have wanted to control this region for various reasons such as its location. I do agree that sooner or later we will have to put our differences aside, but the rest of Europe hasn't really merged into a super-state where ethnicities are put aside and the French and Germans are like brothers. Not to mention that not every country in the Balkans is in the EU. But still, when Europe unites fully, and the people feel like they are part of one huge country, and not their respective nations, the Balkans will follow suit.

For 500 years Balkans were playground for the Austrians, Ottomans and Venetians. We small nations in Balkans had struggled to keep out national identity for past 1000-600 years from large empires. Most of our problems are sourced from late 19th to mid-early 20th century, especially during both world wars. Before that we had solitary as we viewed ourselves as oppressed smaller nations by large empires. How that solidarity broke apart into very bitter relations( to say at least) to today is a very complicated history.

The problem is that they are outnumbered by the number of foreign empires who have tried to control this region. Besides, even though everybody viewed themselves as oppressed during the time their were controled by other nations, the different ethnicities still viewed some, if not all the others as ones that are below them. I see where you're coming from, but the fighting between Balkan nations has been going on from before the Ottoman Empire, they just didn't have a chance to do it as a part of it. But once they were free, they found themselves in a period where history could be recorded much better, and they were also able to advance to a point where they could, more or less, independently continue the fight over territory that had been going on before. WW1 was especially brutal, but that's not because it was the first chance the Balkan Nations got to fight each other big-time, it's just that all the other nations involved also helped make it huge, not to mention that the century just allowed all of this to be remembered in much greater detail for a lot longer.
Everything that has ever gone wrong in the balkans ever is because of Serbia.
questionable but i'm pretty sure most of the former yugo-states would agree
It's funny, what these kind of people are fundamentally saying is that everyone should remain in their own country and never co-operate or travel at all. Implying that movement of people is the prime reason the world is in bad shape. What a load of utter bollocks.
why do people like him exist like whose fucking idea was it to vehemently dislike people just because they are from the other side of arbitrarily defined borders
why do people like him exist like whose fucking idea was it to vehemently dislike people just because they are from the other side of arbitrarily defined borders
It's worse, he thinks Bosniaks shouldn't be there as those lands belong to Serbs. Oh and that us Croats are actually Catholic Serbs. To say I hate Šešelj would be an understatement.
Everything that has ever gone wrong in the balkans ever is because of Serbia.
Factually incorrect. Plenty has gone wrong in the Balkans that wasn't caused by Serbia.
Factually incorrect. Plenty has gone wrong in the Balkans that wasn't caused by Serbia.
pretty sure that was hyperbole
