Wait, does the old student offer of Windows 8 make me ineligible for an 8.1 upgrade?
No. The reason I can't get 8.1 is because of the way I activated 8.
got everything installed and damn why's everything so fast
only took me all day to slowly update everything though, was a hassle but the upgrade is free so I don't have much room to complain there. It's definitely a huge leap in quality over vanilla, it was weird after doing a full refresh to an un-updated pure vanilla 8.0, lots of things just worked different or clunky. Helps appreciate the fact that despite being very tablet oriented, the interface and a lot of the options and menus have had a serious overhaul to fix the direction
Yeah, I think everything's working far nicer than before. The only things I had to install were VMware and Avast, everything else works out of the box.
After fighting with my wireless drivers to actually get internet access, 8.1 has been really, really fast for me. Visual Studio stopped taking five years to load :v:
It does, however, appear that garry hasn't fixed the operating system icon on the forums for Windows 8.1... :v:
Is anyone else getting strange rendering errors on websites as well? I've not been able to test much as I was only grabbing coursework when I was trying it. But some stuff keeps rendering black on FP for example in Firefox.

Everything seems fine for me.

Do you or anyone else happen to have a Battle.net Launcher tile? Can't seem to find one anywhere

Is there something in Windows 8 that replicates this functionality? The arrow that suggests recently used files for that program?
Possibly one of the few things preventing me upgrading to 8.1

Right clicking things pinned to the taskbar.
You can change the max number of things the list can contain, some applications have so many "tasks" that there by default are no room for recent files (like Steam), but if you change the max it works great.
i keep getting install problems and the how to earlier didn't work

So the update screwed up my screen calibration, and trying to recalibrate fucks everything up.
Additionally, I can no longer use two fingers on the touch pad to scroll but maybe I just need to look for a setting that may have deactivated

Try to reinstall your touchpad drivers if the problem persists. I've not had that problem on my laptop.

I haven`t even got the possibility to update yet? What`s wrong? Have tried with manual update, and updated to all new drivers. Still can`t pinpoint the problem... :/
Some editions of Windows 8 don’t support the free update to Windows 8.1. These include:
Windows 8 Enterprise
Editions of Windows 8 Pro that are installed by enterprises using KMS activation
Editions of Windows 8 that are installed using an MSDN ISO, and activated using multiple activation keys

Ah Okay, I was aware of the fact that you couldn`t if you have enterprise but not the fact that this also involvled KMS serial activation. Uhm any solution or am I just to wait?

I hope they also care as much about their old and grubby desktop users.

I had this issue, run the troubleshooter for hardware problems then reboot. Problem solved.
Same with screen calibriation (just make sure you have latest drivers).
