You knowing your PC doesn't help much if you get hit by some browser/plugin exploit. Running everything on your PC as admin is really stupid.
I'm sure No Script, Comodo, MSE, or any of the other security programs I have will help me out.
So can a firewall. So can any form of security software.
That's not what a firewall does.
I hate how nothing or nobody says anything about this one thing: Does this equal a reinstall? Will I have to install all my programs again? I've asked about this on Facepunch many times before, but nobody seems to actually know.
why lol? nothing wrong with mse

Microsoft has admitted Windows users should install antivirus above and beyond its own Security Essentials, describing its protection as merely a "baseline" that will "always be on the bottom" of antivirus software rankings. Microsoft launched Security Essentials in 2009, raising complaints from antivirus rivals that such software shouldn't be bundled with Windows for competition reasons. However, the most frequent complaint about Security Essentials is that it's not good enough: it flunked a pair of tests earlier this year - including one from Dennis Technology Labs, a testing firm affiliated with PC Pro's publisher. MSE + common sense seems to be doing its job well enough for me though. I've not had virus problems in well over a year.
Is there a way to remove the start bar if you already have an alternative?
UAC is not for people who know computers.
Tell that to all of the Linux users. Privilege elevation is one of the big reasons it's so secure. It's funny that so many Windows users are against the idea when they are on the platform that probably like 99% of viruses and malware target :v:
Wow, fucking nice. I had to configure my registry to even allow access to Windows Store. I needed to configure the value of PortableOperatingSystem in regedit HK_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/ from 1 to 0 to even open the Store. Now I need to change it back to allow the install, because you can't install Windows 8.1 from a USB. Fucking yay.
If the update is not showing up kill "Store" in task manager and relaunch it.
Didn't work for me.
Well.. I'm updated to 8.1 but Avast, Comodo, and my sound drivers aren't working at all. Asus will probably take about 4 months to get the sound drivers updated.

I'm not sure why you're so surprised.
Mandatory no start button in Win 8, mandatory start button in 8.1. Why can't they just give us a user option? :C
there was a start button in vanilla 8, you just had to touch the corner of the screen and it'd show the icon/button. It literally still does that but now there's a giant "HEY JERKWAD THE START BUTTON'S OVER HERE" icon glued onto the task bar alternatively let me blow your minds [t]http://www.jbursolutions.com/glossary/K/images/start-key-location.jpg[/t]
Can't wait till "windows 8 suck cause metro ! !!!!" posts start clogging up this thread.
Uh, maybe because it does? Did you ever consider that instead of ignorantly using something that is objectively inferior to its predecessor? [editline]17th October 2013[/editline]
there was a start button in vanilla 8, you just had to touch the corner of the screen and it'd show the icon/button.
Uh, maybe because it does? Did you ever consider that instead of ignorantly using something that is objectively inferior to its predecessor? [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] People wanted a start MENU, not a button.
The only thing that can be considered inferior now is a lack of program folders.
Uh, maybe because it does? Did you ever consider that instead of ignorantly using something that is objectively inferior to its predecessor? [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] People wanted a start MENU, not a button.
Well, boohoo, go buy Start8 or some shit if you're so concerned.
Uh, maybe because it does? Did you ever consider that instead of ignorantly using something that is objectively inferior to its predecessor? [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] People wanted a start MENU, not a button.
just stop please
Oh here we go
What did you honestly expect? Defending something that's pretty universally thought of as shitty is sort of asking to get criticized.
Uh, maybe because it does? Did you ever consider that instead of ignorantly using something that is objectively inferior to its predecessor?
Lol really please explain to me how this is true and not you trying to make your opinion into fact.
People wanted a start MENU, not a button.
I don't know who you mean by "People", but I'm not part of that group.
What did you honestly expect? Defending something that's pretty universally thought of as shitty is sort of asking to get criticized.
But it's not universally considered shitty. It's pretty much, objectively, the same thing except start is full screen. It behaves no different.
What did you honestly expect? Defending something that's pretty universally thought of as shitty is sort of asking to get criticized.
Universally != You and like, two other assholes.
Buyer's remorse general? (User was banned for this post ("Threadshitting after just getting out of a 7 day flaming ban" - daijitsu))
Buyer's remorse general?
What?
On Topic: My store is still not showing the update, even after reboot. There are updates for the system pending, maybe I should install them.
Buyer's remorse general?
Nice argume.. oh wait it isn't even close to an argument. Wtf is this?
