What did you honestly expect? Defending something that's pretty universally thought of as shitty is sort of asking to get criticized.
Can you please leave this thread before you shit it up? Thanks.
Tell that to all of the Linux users. Privilege elevation is one of the big reasons it's so secure. It's funny that so many Windows users are against the idea when they are on the platform that probably like 99% of viruses and malware target :v:
it's very easy to tell when they know nothing about OS's. Even OSX does the same. Privilege elevation, is one of the most important parts of modern security.
Buyer's remorse general?
Jesus fuck.
If you hate it so much, why are you here?
Smells like shit posting to me.
I'm sure No Script, Comodo, MSE, or any of the other security programs I have will help me out.
They won't stop you from running unwanted programs as admin, which is the whole point of UAC. Its just a slightly bad implementation of su/sudo from Linux / OS X which is a good thing that people actually like.
I disagree, it can also stop stuff running that you potentially might not want running.
I keep it on because of paranoia.

Hmm. I've been habitually turning it off since Vista, but you're absolutely right.
brb enabling UAC.

I don't give a fuck if people use it or not, but I hate the school of thought of "ANYONE WHO CRITICIZES WHAT I LIKE IS BAD!"
As demonstrated by this post:
"Can't wait till "windows 8 suck cause metro ! !!!!" posts start clogging up this thread."
It doesn't even have to be a Windows 8 thread. Shrinking an entire argument to poorly typed satire is a horrible thing to do. Mockery is so fucking immature.
we're done here

You then proceeded to call it shitty with no base to your argument.

I never said that I turn it off.
I just said it's annoying, and that's why people would want to turn it off.

How is this any different from "ANYONE WHO LIKES WHAT I DONT IS HAVING BUYERS REMORSE!"?
Well.. I'm updated to 8.1 but Avast, Comodo, and my sound drivers aren't working at all. Asus will probably take about 4 months to get the sound drivers updated.
The sound drivers for my asus laptop have never worked correctly, eventually I stopped bothering with them and just used the default ones, those work great.

Fair enough, I just don't see everyone's problem with UAC. It benefits the system too much to disable it, even if it is annoying.
On Topic: My store is still not showing the update, even after reboot.
There are updates for the system pending, maybe I should install them.
On the windows website it says you need the update KB 2871839 before you can upgrade.
I've checked loads of times and not downloaded this update, seriously getting annoyed.
I feel bad for pdp because he must be having some severe personal problems to act that much of an ass. Oh well.
I'm updating Windows, and we'll see if that makes it go.

I was under the impression that a few applications and games don't work properly if it's not disabled.

Well... I'm using the HDMI audio drivers from Nvidia since the drivers for my sound card won't work at all and to be honest... they sound like utter shit on my monitor. Hell.. a lot of my sound relating stuff doesn't even work including my headset.

Avast appears to have been completely removed from my computer after I updated.

That's worked beautifully. Beginning upgrade.

My laptop is running the preview, and it has "compatability issues".

Well, I hate you, because it damn well won't work for me.

Avast files are in Windows.old for me.
People getting butthurt over someone disliking what they like is flipping ridiculous.

I reinstalled avast from their site and it works fine for me.
Are we only allowed to say positive things about Windows 8 in this thread or something? I'm running it now and have been for months. It definitely has a bastard UI by default. That being said, it has just enough redeeming qualities and it's easy enough to work around to keep me from going back to 7. I haven't kept up with 8.1 so I'm hoping it fixes some of the plain stupid design errors.
I hope this doesn't break startisback
I can't even connect to the store to update at all. It just says "We weren't able to connect to the Store. This might have happened..." and I'll click try again and all it does is quickly flash and nothing changes.
Frustrating.

It doesn't not run, but windows always throws this error. I've not actually had a problem with Avast on 8.1 Preview.

I can get to the page on the store but I'm still getting the same error I was getting earlier (see the third screenshot in the OP)

This is true, that is ridiculous.
As is thinking that your opinion is an objective fact.

And you have every right to have this opinion, but it's not objective, like pdp seemed to think.
