Mine's setting up right now, after a very long wait.
Yeah. It took me a little over an hour to download and wait for to install. I thought it reformatted my entire drive at first.

Now it's applying PC settings.
I must have been lucky. My install took like 20 minutes.

It depends on your internet, mine isn't very good so it took quite a while to download.
Hours later...

I don't know what's up.

Tried restarting your PC and/or router?
[t]http://puu.sh/4SFjT.jpg[/t]
I have done it.
Tried restarting your PC and/or router?
Yup. I restarted a couple times to mess with UAC and updates in general, and one for good measure. It just does that and then when I click "try again" it really doesn't seem to do anything but flash.

Hm. Tried downloading the ISO instead?
Does that have an upgrade feature? Cause I'd rather not have to do a psuedo-fresh install kind of thing.

Yeah although I think it only let's you keep your files, not sure.
I'm unable to run virtual machines now. Thanks Microsoft.

I couldn't run them in 8.. :/
Oh, wait..
Daemon actually works now! :D

I had to install a new version of vmware to get mine to work. My internet is awfully slow though with this new update, lots of connectivity issues. All this for that shitty start button that brings up metro UI.
The fact that you can have your desktop BG as your start menu BG and that you can make tiles small on the start menu are all tiny changes that make a huge difference.
It's like, you can finally have those tiny programs like calculator or whatever you never really need to be big actually be small. Or you can just use it as a means of organizing things for quick access with a mouse.
The BG stuff makes it so the start menu appears as if it materializes over your desktop like an overlay instead of being something completely different.
I also really like that the multi-tasking menu thing is actually useful now that you can add more than one app to it and adjust the size of them. They still need a way for us to split it up horizontally or something though. I.E. have my desktop in the big half on the right of the screen, meanwhile I could split the right half of my screen with a movie app playing in the top and a facebook app in the bottom. Or just have it so the split between two apps is horizontal instead of vertical.

This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled.
Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting.
(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.'
(2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.
(3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Workstation.
(4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.
This is what I'm getting with Vmware. Worked fine pre 8.1

Upgrade to Workstation 10 if you can, that's what worked for me.
10.0.0 build-1295980 is the version I'm using. I imagine there was a update recently?

Perhaps, I installed Workstation 10 today.

Done!
Still can't get this update, arghh

Same, though I keep getting an error about midway through the download
Still can't get this update, arghh
I had to reboot to get it to show up and go to the update install progress and back to desktop and switch back and fourth a few times to keep the installer going, and got a black screen for about 10 minutes after I was done entering info before the desktop came up, but it went smoothly other than that
Is there an alternative way to download the the update besides Store? UAC control is off and metro apps don't even work (that well, at least) on my build.
I have no idea what this "UAC is off so I can't use the store" is about. I have UAC off and I just updated to 8.1 using the Store.

If you have UAC completely disabled (you can't do this in the normal settings, you have to change a registry key), you can't run Metro apps period. Which is why he can't access the Store.

You have to enable UAC. Metro apps don't work without it.

My metro apps work fine with UAC off.
