If you want to live and thrive, let a spider stay alive. Also, go to a doctor.
I have a phobia of motorcycles+sand You don't see me being scared by pictures of sand+motorcycles
What about pictures of motorcycles+sand?
Won't say he deserved death for being an idiot, but god damn; when body parts are changing colour and you're in a lot of pain, GO TO THE DOCTOR.
Phobias aren't a reasonable thing.
It's perfectly reasonable to be afraid of what you can't see.
It is weird that someone can survive 2 weeks with 19 bites, before dying.
It is weird that someone can survive 2 weeks with 19 bites, before dying.
yes. apparently black widow bites are rarely lethal, but with 19 of them and lasting 2 weeks? I'm hella surprised.
That picture of that spider reminds me of the first episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog where he stays in the spider motel.
Excuse me for being an idiot, but did the article said he was 40 years old?
Was it really a good idea to post this on a website where everyone has arachniphobia? :v: This is sad. He was in pain too before he died :(
the black widow scene was kinda cool in eight legged freaks, even if it was inaccurate thats crazy though, 19 bites??
I used to think black widows were the scariest spiders until a brown recluse bit me. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] Still 19 bites is horrifying.
Out of curiosity, how bad was your bite? I've always wondered if those horrific pictures you see of brown recluse bites are common cases or just dummies who let it progress without medical attention. Did you get it treated early, etc?
That's just a terrible way to die.
wtf, i've always thought they were kind of small! now they're even more terrifying :c
Their bodies are usually 14-16mm in length. That's less than two centimetres. All in all they grow large enough to span a quarter and not much more. The guy you quoted is wrong.
Two weeks? I thought you die several hours after a black widow bite.
This happened about an hour away from me.....
What does him being a former US high school baseball star have to do with anything?
I remember playing with two black widows on a stick when I was a younger. Good thing they didn't get pissed off and jump on my face.
When my dad was young, he was bitten several times for several nights in a row while sleeping by black widow spiders. He was in pain and having all of the symptoms of the bites (exacerbated from multiple bites) but couldn't figure out what was biting him until he finally took his bed apart and found a rather big black widow nest with babies in it. But black widow venom is a neurotoxin, not a hemotoxin (which is much worse and causes necrosis that can spread and turn gangrenous.) Black widow bites (even in quantity like that) aren't terribly dangerous unless you're sensitive or allergic to the venom (which this guy probably was.) he still should have seen a doctor, and probably would be alive today if he did.
you guys all better be thankful that we australians took all the deadly species and left you with the tame ones when evolution was dividing up the animals
Black widows (and [imo] the more frightening brown recluse) are very common in North America as well. Also this took place in the US afaik. Still, we don't have drop-bears, I guess. do not want :P At any rate, I can imagine this guy not going for just one bite, but 19? And with all the discoloration and swelling? It doesn't make sense.
Time to freak everyone out in this thread
Was expecting a picture of a spider [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline]
K, I'm out. :suicide:
That is untrue, thank god.
Black Widow Spiders grow as big as your palm, approximately.
You must have fucking TINY hands. The one I had around my house had a body that didn't even get as big as a ping pong ball. Where exactly did you get that from?
Time to freak everyone out in this thread
Meh no big deal, most spiders in estonia are small as hell. Still I doubt that they are 3 feet away from you at ANY given time.
this killed my hands, and all of my oponents in pc games
