So it seems that not only is he a crack addict and a raging alcoholic, he's a homophobe too.
The snippet there isn't really offensive, but damn that article has a lot in it.
At least he's taking the high road.

“It’s not about someone’s sexual preference,” he told reporters at City Hall Friday. “No, I do not agree with putting up the rainbow flag. We should put up the Canadian flag.” Then he went outside to inspect the Canadian flag he hung up in the window of his office.
“This is the Olympics. This is about being patriotic to your country. This is not about your sexual preference,” he added.
I don't really think not wanting a quite loaded political symbol flying over your city hall makes you a homophobe.
A City Hall should be careful making political statements like that, especially if there's no agreement on it, which I can't tell from the article.
When will they take HIM down?
So, this guy is still mayor, even after the crack scandal?
How?
“This is the Olympics. This is about being patriotic to your country. This is not about your sexual preference,” he added.
This is a really good quote, and I do understand what he means. I suppose I agree with what he's saying there, but I know LGBTQ doesn't have it easy in Russia so I guess support won't hurt? Bleh iunno
I completely support gay rights but the way some people advertise and flaunt it is stupid and annoying.

No it isn't. The Olympics are about the OPPOSITE of patriotism. You are supposed to recognize that we are people and should work together instead of engaging in mindless bullshit patriotism. What the fuck.

I'd say it is both.
It's all in the beauty that we can compete with each other in the games in a peaceful manner under a single banner, while still proudly representing our country, doing our very best to bring home a medal.
No it isn't. The Olympics are about the OPPOSITE of patriotism. You are supposed to recognize that we are people and should work together instead of engaging in mindless bullshit patriotism. What the fuck.
But then why do we still differentiate between country of origin in the Olympics?

since when is the Olympics about working together, the entire thing is a competition between countries.

Is there anytime he hasn't taken the high road? :v:
Meanwhile, in Ottawa:
Then you dont completely support it.
You can want a group to have rights but not agree with how they go about obtaining them, you know. I see Rob Ford's point but Canada as a nation is very pro-human rights and so a pride flag is not a bad way to represent our nationalism either.
People still taking rob ford seriously? Here's him dancing to bob marley yesterday:
Why are people against gay rights anyway? Like, am I dumb or something for not getting it?
because some people think its a big headache and don't want to have anything to do with it
He's sorta right though. the olympics are about countries working together and solving major geo political issues. it's about patriotism for not only your country but the world. it's something we call all work together in and we can all compete against each other in. it's the ultimate sign of the co-operation between our nations.
The olympics is about peace between the nations, not peace between the nations and their people.
Homosexual marriage rights are important, but at the same time turning the olympics into a way to pressure russia into changing their stance on it is the complete opposite of what the olympics are about. They're a tool to bring the nations together, not a tool to change a nation's politics.

Maybe people are still taking him seriously because being distracted by his ~zany antics~ from what a shitty person he is is just what he wants?
He's sorta right though. the olympics are about countries working together and solving major geo political issues.
Maybe I'm just not looking into it hard enough, but I'm pretty sure I don't see any of that in the Olympics.
I don't think a two week party that taxes the poor/middle class, and involves draconian degrees of security overwatch should be hailed as a paragon of anything. If anything the sochi Olympics just illustrate the pure manifestation of nationalism and corruption that the olympics have become.
None of this has anything to do with what rob ford said though, if the Olympics are already about nothing then you may as well use the time and publicity to help push for homosexual rights in Russia.
Ah, Rob Ford is in the news again. I thought the media was done with him.
damn and I was your fan too
To an extent, I agree. I also don't get the slag he gets for not showing up at Pride, he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to. At the same time, I'm not sure why there can't be some kind of compromise. Fly them both or something, it's important to stand up for gay rights with what Russia's doing, but it's also important to show pride and respect for your country.
since when is the Olympics about working together, the entire thing is a competition between countries.
Article 6, Chapter 1, Olympic Charter: The Olympic Games are competitions between athletes in individual or team events and not between countries.
You were saying, Aman?

Then why, at the end, do we compare how many medals each country has won? It doesn't really matter what the charter says, it's a competition between nations to see who is the best at what sport and who can be the best at the most sports because that's how nearly everybody and every country treat it.
So, this guy is still mayor, even after the crack scandal?
How?
Because he hasn't really done anything wrong, they didn't physically catch him smoking crack, they just saw a video of it.
BTW this is a ceremonial flagpole which flies event specific flags often, there are several Canadian flags still raised at city hall:
