http://www.amazon.com/Al-Jazeera-Inside-Channel-Challenging/dp/0802117899
I will never accept the argument that any news network is unbiased. Ever. Hell would freeze over for it to be fact. It can be slanted all it wants...and I won't mind. Don't try to tell me that there is an absence of bias; so long as human beings write the reports, there will always be some element of bias. I have a problem with the premise anyways. Established by Qatar's government and airing tons of Al'Qaeda clips and messages? Fine and dandy, we all need to see that, but that's airtime for Al'Qaeda, which is in itself an inherent bias. Sorry I'm so cynical.
Nah, he's just advertising.
It's a pretty odd book to read - you gotta admit that.

It wasn't created by Qatar's government, and airing the Al-Qaeda clips are actually good. That's like saying CNN is biased for airing Osama's messages.

Al-Jazeera is comparable, in terms of journalistic integrity, to western sources.
I have a problem with the premise anyways. Established by Qatar's government
...with freedom to report the news however they see fit. The BBC is funded by the British government and it's one of the best news organizations in the world.
and airing tons of Al'Qaeda clips and messages? Fine and dandy, we all need to see that, but that's airtime for Al'Qaeda, which is in itself an inherent bias.
No more than airtime for US politicians is an inherent bias. They air those videos because they're relevant to the lives of people in the region. If you have evidence that they've endorsed the videos in some way, I'll agree with you, but I don't think they have.
Al-Jazeera, CNN and Bloomberg are the only news programs I watch. And yes, Al-Jazeera is better than most of the shitty networks out there.
Really, you guys are saying Al Jazeera is no more better then Israeli News Sources? You got to be kidding me, how can a News Network called The Lapdog Of America by Al Qaeda, and Al Qaeda's Mouth Piece by Americans be that bad? Hell it was even banned in the West Bank for a few months after running a story negative of the Palestinian Authority
I remember seeing an issue of Reader's Digest talking about Al-Jazeera with big letters on the cover "The most hated news network in the world is coming to Canada". What the fuck Reader's Digest, pandering to your demographic of crotchety 80-year old hicks I see
It's a great news source. Up there behind the BBC.
Al-Jazzera is pretty fucking credible though.
because they're biased towards your beliefs. trusting any media is a good recipe for inaccuracy
because they're biased towards your beliefs. trusting any media is a good recipe for inaccuracy
i am gladdened you are talking about the media, Idi Amin, you do know alot about it
The best way to get accurate news is to read the drudge report
the best way to get accurate news is to be where it is happening
Established by Qatar's government and airing tons of Al'Qaeda clips and messages? Sorry I'm so cynical.
The very reason it was established was to infact have a news source which wasn't state controlled.
the best way to get accurate news is to be where it is happening
That's a terrible way to get accurate news
better than having it filtered through a bunch of people who put their own spin on what happened based on their political beliefs.
the best way to get accurate news is to be where it is happening
That only provides anecdotal evidence from one viewpoint, and usually mixes emotion into the equation
just think about it
Dear god. That is almost cleavage. Burn them at the stake.
better than having it filtered through a bunch of people who put their own spin on what happened based on their political beliefs.
That's why we have something called journalism instead, where professionals, whose reputations for credibility are on the line, report verifiable facts
you go girls
That's why we have something called journalism instead, where professionals, whose reputations for credibility are on the line, report verifiable facts
thats dumb
i'll tell you what's dumb, launching yourself into the international spotlight by harbouring terrorist hijackers
n-no I'm pretty sure that was somalia, you got the wrong guy pal
You're lying Idi Amin You are hiding them under that Santa hat
I remember seeing an issue of Reader's Digest talking about Al-Jazeera with big letters on the cover "The most hated news network in the world is coming to Canada". What the fuck Reader's Digest, pandering to your demographic of crotchety 80-year old hicks I see
Reader's Digest is really conservative.
Middle-easterners asking women to cover their hair is hardly extremist. It'd be like CNN complaining if their female staffers came to work in a bikini top. As liberal and ethical as al-Jazeera is (and it is) it's still physically based in the Middle East, and as such it's going to reflect the mores and taboos of those countries.
Speaking of al-Jazeera, the US bombed their offices in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think it was deliberate. :frown: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2001/nov/17/warinafghanistan2001.afghanistan http://www.wsws.org/articles/2003/apr2003/jaz-a09.shtml
The best way to get accurate news is to read the drudge report
The best way to get news is FP.
"Oh look, a woman is on tv, wearing clothes, I am offended".
If I look for someone who can really hook me in terms of commenting on the news it's Jon Stewart. Hands down, I love him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JnDY2Gv5YQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE http://www.glumbert.com/media/stewart911
