If Yale is such an prestigious university, how do some of the worlds stupidest students seem to come out of it?
money
Progressive is a very deceiving term. These people think they're being progressive by boycotting master thing. But is it?
The term thats catching on is the Regressive left. Progressives that believe in censorship, segregation and racism towards certain races shouldn't have the label they currently have.
money
It still has standards.
Why can't these people just play video games
Related: [sp]They were 100% serious about that matter.[/sp]
Now we all know that you are referencing that Calhoun is set in stone (heh), but to change the name of the college on paper wouldnt be a big deal. They renamed a lake in Minnesota from Calhoun to Mde Maka Ska (aboriginal name) because of the slavery connection.
But naming things in aboriginal is also racist.
Racist to call it what its original name was?
I'm trying to think of how the new name could be considered offensive. Maybe "head of the college" could be triggering for female victims of rape because of the connotations between dominant patriarchal power and phallic imagery, I.E. the "head" of the penis is the "head" of the college. I suggest a second new title be "Your Societal Betters" and that the only people who may be elected to the position are white women and POC except Asians who are already too privileged because they are all smart because they're Asian. That whole paragraph was sarcasm, btw.
Or uh Dean, like every college I've ever been to?
Or uh Dean, like every college I've ever been to?
That term might be offensive because of its Christian and Roman origins.
Racist to call it what its original name was?
The argument can be twisted to make it seem racist, yes.
If Yale is such an prestigious university, how do some of the worlds stupidest students seem to come out of it?
Honestly, I think Yale is one of those colleges mostly sheltered rich kids with the right connections get into. That's my explanation for their recent bullshit.
Honestly, I think Yale is one of those colleges mostly sheltered rich kids with the right connections get into. That's my explanation for their recent bullshit.
George W Bush is a Yale graduate, so possibly.
Sure, get rid of the term Master and instead use the term Meister.
Maester is actually a different term. It's closer to Magister (as in someone who concluded university studies). Though it's clearly also based on the German Meister, which does mean master. Master in this context isn't merely someone with finished studies, but a master of the faculty/master of the chair EDIT Just fucked up, thought you were referencing GOT for some reason.
Honestly, I think Yale is one of those colleges mostly sheltered rich kids with the right connections get into. That's my explanation for their recent bullshit.
Yale is based in New Haven, Connecticut. And at least the high school that a couple of my friends from New Haven went to had a program where if they applied to Yale they'd automatically be in. I'd take a guess and say that it wasn't just for their high school, but the New Haven community at large - so I'd take a gamble that Yale is at least a tiny bit more diverse than that.
Well I guess they just be "baiting" from now on since they are getting rid of master.
I support this notion. The heads of the university should wear Chinese kung-fu uniforms and be addressed as Grandmaster instead.
I support this notion. The heads of the university should wear Chinese kung-fu uniforms and be addressed as Grandmaster instead.
That's racist, they should wear Kimonos and be addressed as senseis.
I disagree with the term "head of college," as college has the wrong implications. It should be "Head of adult daycare," since that's all they seem to be nowadays.
Yale has finally gone full intellectually disadvantaged individual
So do I have a master's degree or a Heads of The College degree, then? What's it called?! I need to know before I offend someone and lose a career!
So do I have a master's degree or a Heads of The College degree, then? What's it called?! I need to know before I offend someone and lose a career!
I'm not sure. I figure I'll go Heads-Of-The-College-bate and get back to you on that.
"But for some black students on campus at Yale, the word conjures up much darker moments in American history" I really hope we can get rid of this term so the 200 year old black students can stop protesting and finally finish their heads of the college degree
Sensitive Students Seething over Seemingly Unsuitable Sobriquet
That's like saying "Oh, the word 'he' was used during the time of slavery, so we need to abolish it now" :speechless:
That's like saying "Oh, the word 'he' was used during the time of slavery, so we need to abolish it now" :speechless:
Not that I agree with the students, but if you honestly believe that "he" is as loaded as "master" then you've obviously missed the point completely. It isn't completely unreasonable to feel that the word "master" is connected to slavery in the context of american history. Not saying that the word should be banned though, as it obviously has nothing to do with that today.
http://wshu.org/post/yale-students-ask-university-abolish-term-master
There's a video of her. I understand that racism is a problem, but honestly this is going beyond the point of reason. I mean for fuck's sake, you're going to a uni. You noticed there's something called Master's degree, right?
Master is demeaning, implying some are smarter than others. Very hurtful.
some are smarter than others
Sometimes you have to wonder whether these students are ridiculously naive idiots or diabolically clever racists. Or the third option, really naive racists that don't understand it.
its funny how some people try so hard to be against racism that they actually CAUSE more racism [editline]24th November 2015[/editline]
They have warrants why the name should be changed So far the reason why it shouldn't is pretty shitty and defensive. Seriously, whats wrong with calling it heads?... Also how many of you go to yale? why do you give a fuck about what the names are? Its like whenever anyone says anything about racism you guys come out the fucking woodwork banging on your pots and pans.
a word like "Master" shouldn't be changed because some white kid was offended over the fact that some black people would be offended even though they wont be you can't change things just because a few people, that's dumb as fuck. just because someone thinks it has connections to slavery means nothing at all, because it really doesn't. Changing something out of an imagined offense is bending over to a bad decision. what are they going to do? change everything that could offend people?
