God damn it.
Can anyone around Camp Lejeune confirm if the base is on lockdown?

Where is it located? I forgot.

North Carolina
Apparently, we already have. I just got the news from a buddy at Camp Lejeune(Marine Corps) in North Carolina. He said we've deployed three battalions and two fighter squadrons as 'peacekeeping' forces. The base is on high alert and lockdown. I just got the one message, so apparently that's all he knows, but I'll post if I hear anything else.
This is slightly worrying. We don't need to be on Russia's bad side.
Hah, I just came back from there.

:uhoh:
Why the hell are we sending in troops while at the same time are trying to get the ones stationed their out? it doesn't make since, though this one CIA guy said that we would act if the Russians invaded Georgia

Last I checked the US was allies with Georgia, or at least we have frosty relations. We'd be royal asses to not stick up for our allies, regardless how reckless it would be :sigh:.
If I were to guess I'd say because a couple thousand overseers and trainers are in greater immediate danger than sending in 20,000 Marines.
Hmm...
This is fucking off the hook.
If the 20,000 troop's thing is true this is gonna end badly.
Who says we're fighting Russia?
If the US Marine thing is true and the major media outlets publish it then I'll make a new thread about it, because that would be HUGE.
Who says we're fighting Russia?
For all we know we could be fighting or helping Russia wait for some news I suppose.
Who says we're fighting Russia?
Why else would we send Marines into Georgia if not to at least intimidate Russia?
Everything recently suggests Russia ain't fuckin' around about Georgia, and it will take more than a no-no from the UN to stop them.
Other than it being a rumor on SA...

If I were in charge of American forces I'd stay way away from Georgia irregarldess of ally status, god knows American/Russian relations don't need to decline even more.

Yeah, Usually when you anger Russia you are going to be turned into a crater.
This is one jar of cheese dip we don't need to stick our nachos in. :v:
Just saw this on the news.
Condeleezza Rice says the US is working with European partners to launch "internacional mediation" on South Ossetia.
Also, she said to Russia to stop the attacks on South Ossetia

Bush and Putin are talking to eachother at the olympics about this whole thing, it's much more likely that we're backing the Russians if this is true.
The plan was to either blitz through S. Ossetia while Putin was away at the Olympics so they could get it over with, entrench themselves, and negotiate peace, or to provoke the Russians into attacking in order to garner international support.
Georgia completely and utterly dropped the ball and now they might have a war on their hands. Noone is going to do anything to help them and the Russians are now at their doorstep.
One can only hope Russia decides to be mature about the situation then.

Yeah if it's true that they didn't start it we will back them.
Other than it being a rumor on SA...
it was from a dude's marine friend who I guess was on-base
Georgia is pulling its troops out of Iraq. They've asked America for airlifts.

Bullshit, we've gone on the record today that the US will support Georgia's territorial integrity, it was all over the news.
I don't see why we can't be neutral when our allies go and do stupid shit like this. It's their burden, they should have to carry it alone.

That may happen.
