But Georgia attacked Ossetia first.
No recognized nation recognizes South Ossetia as a sovereign nation. In the eyes of the UN Georgia is under a civil war of sorts and Russia invaded them for no reason.
Read that.
I understand how this got started, I am just more worried about the US's current stance on the situation, because if we take the side of Georgia, that's us against Russia, and the world can't deal with that.
So is Russia tearing through Georgian troops on the ground? Or are they putting up any resistance?
The United States has been training Georgia for the past few years, so I image Georgia is putting up a good resistance.
So is Russia tearing through Georgian troops on the ground? Or are they putting up any resistance?
Pretty sure they are just getting torn up. From the looks of the pictures, Georgia is stuck with older T-54 tanks which stand no chance against the newer T-80/T-90s. Without them, troops are just going to be slammed, not to mention the shelling of the cities that will soften up the ground resistance.
I understand how this got started, I am just more worried about the US's current stance on the situation, because if we take the side of Georgia, that's us against Russia, and the world can't deal with that.
We do support Georgia, but we will not use military force against Russia. If it comes down to it NATO, EU, and UN members will stop trade with Russia.
No recognized nation recognizes South Ossetia as a sovereign nation. In the eyes of the UN Georgia is under a civil war of sorts and Russia invaded them for no reason.
Russia is just protecting it's Russian citizens that live in South Ossetia.
Russia is just protecting it's Russian citizens that live in South Ossetia.
Yes but the international community sees it as un-provoked Russian Aggression. If someone doesn't change their mind Russia will get fucked over and we'll see this sort of stuff a lot more in the future.
Fuck the international community. The only thing that matters is what the US thinks, if they'll intervene or not. Other than that, no other country will be stupid enough to interfere. Edit: Except Israel and Iran. :v: Who'll probably fight each other to kick off WW3.
Everybody wants Russia to Tits or GTFO but nobody knows how to admin.
Hopefully the US won't go to Georgia and stay there for 7 years :v:
Hopefully the US won't go to Georgia and stay there for 7 years :v:
It's been that long hasn't it. Why aren't you Americans taking to the streets?
It's been that long hasn't it. Why aren't you Americans taking to the streets?
easier and more convenient for us to whine online.
It's been that long hasn't it. Why aren't you Americans taking to the streets?
They do. No one gives a shit.
It's been that long hasn't it. Why aren't you Americans taking to the streets?
Not nearly as many causalities as Vietnam. Besides we need a musical revolution to be hippies and protest.
Hopefully the US won't go to Georgia and stay there for 7 years :v:
Avtually we have a thousand or two people in Georgia that we need to get out of there, meaning the US is going to bring in the Marines which will probably get shot at which will probably drag us into the war. Start thinking up your 9/11 type conspiracies. Edit:
It's been that long hasn't it. Why aren't you Americans taking to the streets?
It's night time...

I take it the Cyberattacks have already been mentioned?
I take it the Cyberattacks have already been mentioned?
Yes, and a repost is worth it.
Yes, and a repost is worth it.
A repost would be nice.
A repost would be nice.
I'll be lazy and quote from Wiki then.
South Ossetian officials stated that two Ossetian news media sites were hacked. Dmitry Medoev, the South Ossetian secessionist envoy in Moscow, claimed that Georgia was trying to cover up reports of deaths.[78] The Georgian National Bank website was defaced and replaced with a gallery of known dictators of 20th century with Saakashvili added amongst them. Georgian newsportals were under Internet denial-of-service attacks and reportedly the site of defense ministry was hacked as well. The attack is similar to 2007 cyberattacks on Estonia and carried out by same techniques.[79] The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website was also defaced and replaced with a collage of Saakashvili and Adolf Hitler photos.[80]

I'll be lazy and quote from Wiki then.
Wow.
Wow.
Yep.
http://www.mfa.gov.ge/ This^ was on the website, looks like they fixed it.
Amidst all the talk of DDOS attacks, it's taken me about five minute to load that site and half the pictures on it.
Hey guys, i was away for 12 hours, anyone care to bring me up-to-date?
If WWIII starts. I'm gonna cut my balls off.
Hey guys, i was away for 12 hours, anyone care to bring me up-to-date?
Information attacks (DDOS and site defacement, sites taken down) occurred on Georgian and Ossetian websites. Russian troops deployed in another seperatist province. Cossacks joining the fight.
