Wow, I should have really read this topic when it was first created. I saw it when it had like two posts but couldn't be bothered reading the article so didn't post... and now 60 pages :|
Can someone bring me up to speed in like... a sentence (Maybe slightly longer than need be)? Have things escalated very much since the OP?
Kind of hard to sum up in a sentence but here's basically what has happened.
Russians rushed to the defence of South Ossetia and have sent troops in order to counter the Georgian troop buildup. The Georgian president has accused the Russians of launching airstrikes against civillian cities away from the conflict zone, which Russia denies, and noone knows the amount of casualties on both sides, my paper is reporting over 1000 Military and civilian deaths.
Edit:
Wikipedia says 300 dead on the Georgian side, 200 of them soldiers and 21 dead, 150 wounded, and 2 captured on the Russian side.
But South Ossetian sources claim more than 1,600 killed and 90 wounded, while Russian officials say the death toll now stood at 2,000.
Edit:
It appears that after Georgian troops reportedly pulled out of South Ossetia and the Georgian President was beginning peace talks, that Georgian Artillery is again bombarding South Ossetia.

Shit, I read twelve deaths on the first page, but now hundreds... thousands? Fuck, a full blown war.
I don't know why but I'm excited :\ Sounds sadistic and all but finally something is happening... I need help.
About fucking time. Russia is fucking awesome.
Lets side with them.

You're really stupid.
This is a bad war if America / england join the fight think of the nuclear weapons russia have think people this was said the world to end at 2012 but I'm not sure it could happen, could we really all die.
Also there cutting the oil pipe line and could prevent us from getting electricity AND INTERNET, be warned we could all die
First of all.... no
Second of all... Leave your 2012 Stuff in the science fiction forum, not a Post to Post coverage of an actual event taking place
Third, There won't be any nuclear weapons being launched, and if so The United States has a FEW missile defense shields (for Our defense, here at home), where if a warhead gets through one, we have more than 2 others to fall back on, it's whoever is surrounding Russia that should be concerned about it, I believe now that Russia is just one big bully, Trying to muscle the little guys around, But even a big bully can't stand to 20 Nerds hitting him with sticks

Yeah, during the Cold War we realized that Europe not America would be fucked if there was a nuclear war.
Apparently a US outpost was just bombed by Russian planes. This is very fucking bad.
Edit:
There's no internet story on this yet but I will get it up as soon as I can.

Woops? Hope that doesn't wake some sleeping giant we have tucked under our belt, while we are engaged in two countries in war, we are still only using a fraction of our military... We have the resources to come and fight it out with Russia.... Just hope our idiots in congress don't jump the gun

Try to get a source, that's some insane shit.

This war might help McCain get elected if it keeps going this way.
Woops? Hope that doesn't wake some sleeping giant we have tucked under our belt
Well Georgia has withdrawn from S. Ossetia and the Russia keeps bombing the Georgians. Georgia has supported us in Iraq and the Ukraine has openly gave their support to Georgia. Basically someone just poked the sleeping giant in the eye. HE IS GOING TO BE PISSED.

... So who's siding with Russia?
It was on Fox News. Apparently it was nothing serious but still... killing the largest military power in the world's troops is bad.
... So who's siding with Russia?
China maybe?
... So who's siding with Russia?
No one that I know of so far except for probably Iran.
Better join the Coast Gaurd before you get drafted into something more combat orientated.
China maybe?
Why would China get involved in this?
(There really isn't any reason, just to make this a bit quicker)
No one that I know of so far except for probably Iran.
Bummer
if what you said is true then there's a definite possibility of Military action against Russia inside Georgia by the US, Doubt it would extend any further than just driving Russia back out, wonder how long we'd stay there after the conflict :(
Well the Russians claimed to just be driving Georgia out but now that they have pulled out, Russia keeps bombing them.
Oh shit.
Better join the Coast Gaurd before you get drafted into something more combat orientated.
What about border skirmishes on the Alaskan/Siberian coast?
You're really stupid.
Chill. I was joking.
They're all a bunch of communists.
Why are we watching videos and pictures of the aftermatch? I mean some guy should be able to film how the fight is like right? Like in Iraq.

Most countries (Including Russia) don't allow reporters in the battlefield. You'll be arrested or more commonly, shot.

To be specific, they're not Communist.
Why would China get involved in this?

If America helped Georiga against the Russians, I doubt China would sit back and watch. (I don't think America is going to do anything but if they do help Georgia, a lot of other people are going to get involed)(misspell?)
Anyone got any information about this alleged attack on a US outpost?
If they are on training exercises it doesn't really matter.

I could post a map with Russia, Georgia, and America labeled but somehow I doubt that would be enough to drill it into your head that China has no interest in going to war with it's biggest consumer.

Again, as I said. It's on the news but not online yet. I'll get it posted soon as possible.
