First: Who the fuck uses Limewire still?
Second: Didn't they get sued for about $14T? ($14,000,000,000,000)
Some computer-retarded Arab kid in my class used Frostwire and was all :frogc00l: about it. He didn't even know how the hell torrents worked
nothing about Limewire is illegal. some of the content hosted is, but the program itself isn't.

yeah pretty much the same thing with guns
Also the bullshit Jack Thompson stirred up when Manhunt II was released on the Wii, his reasoning was that since the Wii was marketed to families, Nintendo was being all evil or some shit by letting it get released. I know JT is a joke, but the concept is the same. DVDs are marketed towards families, but just because Porn and adult films get released on it doesn't mean it needs to get bricks chucked at it.
Same way, just because a method of distribution has SOME illegal stuff on it doesn't mean it deserves the banhammer. Even something as shitty as Limewire.
Also, inb4 Jack_Thompson on FP replies to this comment.
nothing about Limewire is illegal. some of the content hosted is, but the program itself isn't.
Exactly, but the content that was hosted was.
The program and probably the company is going to be still alive, but they are going to be hosting Music for purchase and not doing P2P anymore.
So in dumb terms.

Gotta love disregard to abuse.
They want to kill off all the abuse, but what they don't realize is that abuse will always be there.
what
limewire is very different from utorrent and bittorrent
But it sets precedent for other distros that are like Limewire.
yeah pretty much the same thing with guns
Yep. I'm no big gun enthusiast, but a system of gun buying that includes background checks on mental health is fine with me (because infamous cases of psycho rampagers used legally bought guns). Legal gun sales are not the cause of gun violence, illegal guns are.
Holy derailing lol
I thought limewire died off years ago.
I like how when Limewire shuts down everyone cheers, but when the Pirate Bay gets attacked everyone freaks out.
I like how when Limewire shuts down everyone cheers, but when the Pirate Bay gets attacked everyone freaks out.
The understanding of cause and effect develops at around 3 years old so it makes sense

Pirate Bay has been good to me over the years....haven't used it recently though.

TPB is a better resource of Linux Distros that Limewire will ever be.
TPB is a better resource of Linux Distros that Limewire will ever be.
I prefer getting my linux distros off the developers website.
If you goto TPB, you will probably get a virus, like Mac OSX.
Also, if anyone remembers, Mininova wasn't outright shut down, instead the court ordered they delete all the illegal shit they had and forced them to provide content-distribution stuff
Ah yes, Limewire, seven years ago it was where I got certain media through. And of course, my first taste of viruses.
Though I guess Kazaa lite, frost wire, and the multidude of programs are still going for those who want the outdated p2p programs crammed full of malware and viruses to get their porn and music.
What? Limewire is being shut down? Now where am I supposed to get my "Windohws 8 pr3-4lph4 leek LEGIT 4reellz"?
And we move to FrostWire

In other news: A million pedophiles weep today.
Though I am finally able to search "Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me) - Simple Plan" without getting in my search "How could this happen to me hot chick sucking dicks xxx"
Fin fucking finally
All the technophobic judges that think a pseudo-random sequence of bytes that happens to sound kind of similar to a popular song by Justin Bieber means it's the same thing scare me.
I say kind of similar because the sequence of bytes released by itunes won't necessarily be the same sequence of bytes you find on Limewire/Bittorrent/usenet/etc. So how can you say the two are the same?
if you're not a complete fucking idiot then limewire worked fine
i never had any problems with it
I liked limewire, maybe because it was easy to use. Used to use bearshare before, until I realized the program itself was a virus. This was when the GeForce 2 MX was top of the line.

The most important thing about this story is the court precedent that has been set.
I'd imagine most people on FP have no idea what that means, but basically it heavily influences how the court will make decisions in the future. More specifically, it encourages them to make more decisions like this one in other cases.
Precedents like this make it seem acceptable to shut down any company that partakes in the free distribution of files.
This is scary
requires managers there to disable "the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality, and/or all functionality"
A web server uploads files to people. Should Apache be shut down? You can distribute files through e-mail. Is GMail an illegal service? Seriously, these assholes can go fuck themselves.
As far as Limewire goes.. it's a piece of shit.
To everyone saying "nothing of value was lost", you do realize that this sets precedent to go after uTorrent, Bittorrent, Deluge, so forth right
Because uTorrent and Bittorrent are a program that hosts and uploads illegal software and music.
According to you, they are going to go after the downloading from your browser too.
