But where will I get my fill of "Pink Floyd Led Zepellin Rolling Stones Ozzy Slipknot takes it up the ass cam cum omg huge mature tits.jpg"?
Because uTorrent and Bittorrent are a program that hosts and uploads illegal software and music. According to you, they are going to go after the downloading from your browser too.
Uh, utorrent/bittorrent is a peer to peer system all the same as Limewire, just in a distributed cloud format. Limewire didn't host files either, it just provided a framework to manage downloads from another user's computer. It's the same as a torrent client with a built in torrent search, basically. This does set a precedent for taking on other file sharing systems, regardless of the program legality itself.

The application would be worthless without it.
Now will i be able to download my communist-girl porn? PS that is girls in communist uniforms.
Correct me If i'm wrong, they just killed the limewire service. The application would be worthless without it.
There is no such thing as a "limewire service" so far as I know. It runs on the Gnutella and Bittorrent protocol, so it's actually more decentralized than I thought. Like I said, it's a peer-to-peer system, there is no regulatory system provided by Limewire. So... i'm not entirely sure what they're going to do to disable it, possibly kill the programs when they connect to the internet or something like that.

After all, in order to download the application, the users had to say they weren't going to perform illegal downloads.
Use Kazaa erryday!
this is dumb. limewire does NOTHING illegal. [editline]27th October 2010[/editline] so can someone please explain what the judge expects the company to do if this is an entirely decentralized network where the company does not own anything that actually has copyrighted files on it?

But this may be the beginning to something a lot more.. disappointing.

[editline]27th October 2010[/editline] so can someone please explain what the judge expects the company to do if this is an entirely decentralized network where the company does not own anything that actually has copyrighted files on it?
This is what was ordered:
On October 26, 2010, LimeWire was ordered to disable the "searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality" after losing a court battle with the RIAA over claims of copyright infringement.
I have no idea how they plan to do that, though. It's not a very technologically aware ruling. EDIT: Ah here we are:
Obviously, there is little that the court can do about software that is already released. But in her order, Wood tried to close the door on any further releases, upgrades, advertising of the software or the creation of any comparable software in the future. She also wants Lime Wire to do its best to discourage the use of the LimeWire software already in the wild, what she called "legacy software." "Using its best efforts," Wood wrote, "Lime Wire shall use all reasonable technological means to immediately cease and desist the current infringement of the Copyrighted Works by Legacy users through the LimeWire System and Software and to prevent and inhibit future infringement of copyright works."
Just like I thought, there ain't shit they can really do. Judge is a moron if he expects anything to happen beyond no new official distribution.
Dammit! Now how will I ever download crawling_in_my_skin.mp3.exe?!?!?!?
frostwire, bro?
Oh Limewire, the only download client were every byte of information was quarantined before use. Those were the days. You will not be missed, but the precedence of this ruling will pave a road for worse lawsuits.
cough Pirate Bay sucks cough [sp]Btjunkie ftw[/sp]
Bah! Nothing stands up to private trackers.
To everyone saying "nothing of value was lost", you do realize that this sets precedent to go after uTorrent, Bittorrent, Deluge, so forth right
can't shut torrents down unless you get ISPs to packet-sniff and you arrest everyone and who is gonna pay all those legal fees? [editline]27th October 2010[/editline]
You're all fools for acting like this is a good thing. It's just a way for the media industry to gain power, now that Limewires down, whats stopping them from going after the developers of utorrent for instance?
They can't, someone will just release a new clone, there's a billion torrent applications already. [editline]27th October 2010[/editline]
cough Pirate Bay sucks cough [sp]Btjunkie ftw[/sp]
They're essentially the same now, PB hasn't had their own tracker for a while.
I thought this day would eventually come, it's fair to say I've used my fair share of Limewire. Never downloaded a virus though, they're not hard to spot.
In other news: A million pedophiles weep today.
The non-savvy ones, at least. I hear they usually use old abandoned forums now.
Never bothered with Limewire personally. When I used to pirate in the past, it was always through TPB. (I stopped that about a year an a half ago though after only using TPB for about 6 months...)
Limewire is an outdated piece of junk
Tell me, TELL ME WHAT to use instead!
I used limewire when I was 12 [editline]27th October 2010[/editline]
And we move to FrostWire http://www.frostwire.com/
Same shit (it sucks)
Frostwire! Share is with your friends!
Remember the Napster days, lol.
except napster was even weaker than limewire was and got taken down by a butthurt Lars Ulrich
