I would have hoped there would have been no rioting. Regardless of which way the vote goes, the other side should accept that this is what the majority of Scots have voted for in a democratic referendum, and that they should just get on with it. Rioting wont change anything and just cause trouble.
quite amazing that despite the entire media being against a yes vote, the no having a good bit more money and going up against the entire british establishment, they're a baw hair from losing
Go Scotland ! Grab this unique opportunity !
Yeah, ive seen publicity stuff for the Yes Campaign literally everywhere here in dundee in the followup to vote.
If yes wins, how many people do you think will move south?

None because houses are expensive
None because houses are expensive
They can become serfs and pay all of their minimum wage income on rent
None because houses are expensive
Didn't they say if Yes wins, houses would become a lot cheaper?
I hope Scotland votes Yes just for we can restart the republic movement in Australia.
Really, I don't understand why to do that, the queen has no power, so, why even bother?
I hope Scotland votes Yes just for we can restart the republic movement in Australia.
Why would it do that?
The Queen will still be the head of state for an independent Scotland lol
I got no idea which is the better vote, no amount of research has helped me.
Thankfully I'm not allowed to vote because I'm not a citizen of Scotland - god speed to them.
Why would it do that?

If SNP wins the general election in the event of Independence, but Scotland does have a lot of Republicans who would like to see the Monarchy done away with.
IF Scotland goes Independent, I wouldn't bet on us still paying service to the Monarchy thirty years down the line. (I put it at so long to allow time for Scotland to find its own political feet)
Anyway, asked one of the ladies at my polling station how the turn out had been so far (around 10 AM, so 3 hours after polls opened), and she said they'd already had about 40% turnout. I suspect this referendum will make history for the voter turnout. (I also predict it will be the first and last time that happens in the event of a No vote)
If yes wins, how many people do you think will move south?
quite a few, but a lot of english people will move up to compensate because left wing + better quality of life
I think the biggest question that should be asked is, will facepunch be getting new flag icons???

That may be so, but many people think that this is a referendum on republicanism. Just ensuring that they realise it is not the case.
The Independence Bill, assuming this referendum is successful, is quite clear in its intentions that the Head of State will be the Queen of Scotland.

Problem is, will it be a better quality of life? a lot of companies are leaving Scotland if yes wins, they might have to change currency, and a bunch of other factors.

I've asked that, most people said no, since flagdog updates for no man.
This vote should be a serious wake up call for brits not to quit the EU and not to let bigots like UKIP gain power.
Probably the only bad thing of this is that I'm going to need to adapt myself to a certain new political geography map. Not that I'm a student myself, but it might be quite confusing for me.
Otherwise, godspeed to Scotland. I hope the same happens to Catalonia and the Basque Country someday if possible and hopefully to get rid of silly corrupt spaniard politicians. Because in Spain almost everything is getting out of hand.

The problem is politicians prioritise their parties over their countrys future.
"Immigration is out of control, the current gov is leaving our borders WIDE OPEN, vote for us to fix it!"
"Immigrants coming from europe! They're scary! Current gov is bending over backward and accepting all europes laws!!! vote for us to fix it and stand up!!!"
"EU is causing (problem) vote for us to fix it and give YOU the choice to decide!!!"
Like with recession.
Tories blames labour for not regulating the banks, the tory policy prior to that was LESS regulation and even now the banks aren't regulated. Just taking a problem and using it to try and gain voter support.
Its not a problem with UKIP persay (tho ukip are utterly toxic for their intention to make immigrant ghettos and more private schools/hospitals) it is a problem with politics. Instead of doing what is best and telling people why it is best, politicians use a problem to say "look how bad labour is, vote for us instead" I think alternative vote would fix this since could vote for what they want rather than what they don't want, but the last person to promise us that totally screwed over all the people who voted for him.
The system is one of hypocrisy and lies. I'm not scottish but I do support them leaving, if they do I will likely move there.

The only real possibility If they do go independent and people want to leave is to get a job in England, which there aren't enough of already, and rent a house before you get enough money to buy.
A house next to me is up for sale for 120k which is too high for what you get, nobody will buy it.

the people who said that are major tory doners - it's in their best political interests to have a no vote. there will be money to be made in scotland after tomorrow as there was yesterday - it's just people using their perceived influence to toy with the vote.
the currency union is the best option for both countries - ruling it out now is a political decision as the currency was the main arguing point for no, without it, their arguments are even weaker.
Well, let's see what happens now then.

The trouble is odds are Scotland will end up with just as shit a political landscape.
Why do people even WANT to gain independence. All it seems to me is just "I want independence cause its cool to be independent" but never actually see any good reason as to what they would gain.
Scotland is liberal, England is conservative and they don't really give a shit what the Scots want, see Scotland wanting the money from their oil and the English parliament literally laughing at them.
The trouble is odds are Scotland will end up with just as shit a political landscape.
except with a less shit voting system
This vote should be a serious wake up call for brits not to quit the EU and not to let bigots like UKIP gain power.
I actually think its going to cause a resentful backlash from the rest of the UK - if Scotland does leave - to call for a referendum to leave the UK/EU, and possibly more UKIP votes.
I forsee a lot of English and Welsh students studying in Scotland if there is a yes vote, as Scotland will have to treat them as EU students and therefore provide them with free tuition (unlike at the moment where they have to pay fees).

which i would wholeheartedly support. the idea of a two tier system is insane, i've got friends who are dual nationalist eire and ni so they register for uni with their eire address and save £9000 a year

Scotland is one of the easier map changes to remember though if it happens. It's not like Tajikistan splitting in two when most people don't even know that country exists.

Of the 59 Scottish parliamentary constituencies, Labour holds 40, the Conservatives hold 1. Without Scotland the odds are that David Cameron will win a majority in 2015. As for money to be made in Scotland, the anti-English sentiment doesn't exactly make for easy trading conditions or fair competition. It wouldn't surprise me if most Conservative MPs were delighted at the prospect of an independent Scotland.

Scotland had its #1 choice political party for 13 of the past 17 years though.. and Blair and Brown were both born in Scotland.
As for 'their oil' - don't you mean the oil belonging to the Shetland islands? The same Shetland islands that are making a lot of noise about their own independence?
