That's basically what wrestling is though.

I would have forfeited. It's just gentlemanly. Same reason it was you put down your coat across a puddle for a woman and not a man. It doesn't make you a sexist bigot. It's just gentlemanly, proper etiquette.

if a person wants to fight with you on the same grounds and you go "nope, i'm a gentleman fuck you" then you're gonna be a dick, regardless of how you wanna twist it around
Seriously?
First off, this is front page news?
Second off, why isn't he getting respect for not fighting based on his beliefs?
Seriously, does anyone else see it as wrong that girls are involved with wrestling? Football: awesome. Basketball: sure. But wrestling? Guys and girls simply should not be allowed to compete within the same bracket.

cuz his beliefs are stupid and i'm a hardcore feminist anyway

Well of course. If you tell anyone "nope, i'm a gentleman fuck you" of course you are going ot be considered a dick. If you say "I don't wish to participate." Then I'm sure you aren't going to be called a dick.

that's basically what he said just with kinder language
This happens all the time.
My rule is, hit only when hit. Doesn't matter who, if someone hits me in with the intention to actually hurt me, I'll slug them back.
However, this is a classic case of chivalry and yes its dead. Not only because of women, but because of men who don't truely understand it.
I know a chick who's an amateur wrestler, she could probably suplex me in about a quarter second.
" I had reach... but she had flexibility"
In all seriousness, I'm neutral on the issue. Though I'd probably have fought none the less.
It's highly unprofessional and rude of him to assume she was unable to match him. I would have gladly accepted the fight and fought her as any other fighter.
I would probably lose mind you, but still.

This is a classic case of misogyny and it's not dead because idiots think they're standing up for the woman when they're actually putting them down.
Equality through more inequality - How we do things in the west. If I was in a confrontation with a female, I'd do anything in my power to avoid physically harming her, but if she attacked me, I wouldn't hold back. Putting women on a pedestal and giving way to them is just another form of sexism itself. I wouldn't treat a woman any better than I would treat a man. It seems like that kind of thought is only getting worse in this country, girls now EXPECT to be treated like princesses, it makes me sick, I really have to work hard to restrain myself from shoving my first down their bitchy throats. I may sound sexist, but women in this country have worked so hard for equality, yet if you don't hold a door open for them they explode in your face.
I don't see an idiot or a pussy, I see a guy who lost a wrestling match, I don't see him losing to a girl, I see him losing to the competition. I think its nice that she won, but I don't see it as worth noting in history. Females have the same physical capacity as males, its just hidden under a layer of fat.
In the end this guy lost because he possesses the same innate sexist attitudes towards the opposite sex shared by many in western society. You never underestimate the competition, even if it has a vagina.
I would have sexed her then and there.
Combining Gentlemanly and sports is just like mixing oil and water.
Not possible, so stop that shit and win like a MAN!!
I dunno, I wouldn't particularly want to fight a woman either. It is fairly common to be raised as a male under the notion that your chemically induced superior strength is to be used to protect your less reinforced female counterparts.
That Y chromosome gives you standard issue testosterone factories located between your legs. They produce it in massive quantities and heavily influence the development of muscles and overall body strength. In addition to this it also strongly influences the density of your bone structure, effectively reinforcing your entire skeleton to withstand significantly more strain without appreciable damage. Virtually every organ in your body receives a size (And thus a marginal performance) upgrade at the cost of increased energy consumption. Women produce testosterone as well, but generally not anywhere near the quantities present in an adult male.
Women sport a reversed pelvic bone (Well, a pelvic bone which is reversed when compared to males), and an additional layer of fat for the purposes of child birth and pregnancy. Women are considerably more fuel efficient than men, with their daily calorie requirements being significantly less than that of their male counterparts (Again, a result of significantly less bone mass to move regularly and decreased muscle energy requirements). This coupled with increased fat storage and the same density of energy in fat cells as men, makes them notably more resistant to starvation than men. Women are also significantly more resistant to X-linked chromosomal disorders due to having a backup chromosome to fill in for the defects of the other.
You can't really come down too hard on this guy. Society actually has some science behind its reasoning here.

lol people making fun of the kid, what would you do if you were in his position?
If you win, you just beat up a girl, if you lose, you lost to a girl.
Lose-lose bros.

Winners never quit
Quitters never win.
Poor guy, no one deserves to have something this humiliating publicized.
It's his own choice. It would be humiliating if he was beaten by a girl. (Not really though because she beat every single other person she faced in the tourney so it's not like they could say shit to him) This was his own choice, he should live with it.

Except this isn't 2nd grade anymore and people don't make fun of you because you 'beat up a girl' for the #1 high school wrestler spot in your state.
How many people on Facepunch actually wrestle, because a lot of the comments I'm reading are making me cringe.
Also: Fact! Girls are the easiest to pin with a cradle.

Is it because a lot of the comments are making you cringe?
That tells me very little.

He hit him with the table!
Oh my god this is not regulation!
He's going backstage!
He's choking his opponent's manager!
