rofl like I said bitcoin is a joke electricity and the rig itself is worth more than you'll even make you can't just "summon money of the blue" how about you just "Get a fucking job" and buy things with actual money and actually earn it. Magic isn't real. Jobs are scarce yes but it's 100% less risky.
How else am I going to buy drugs online?
How else am I going to buy drugs online?
fuck your right time to mine
I am going to get a job. I'm enlisting in the Air Force and hopefully my MO is 4P0X1 - PHARMACY
Good luck.
If 50 coins are given out in total then you'd have to out-mine the world all at once to make $500 a day, I don't get it. So people just buy more power in an endless tug of war over $500 a day? We need to get rid of child labor laws so all these kids googling "free money" 30 times a day can just work IMO!

He never said that he will depend on it as his main source of income. You seem to have an irrational hate for bitcoins.
Except the $30,000 model churns out one TH/s which is much much more than 25,200 MH/s. Good job though I applaud your effort. Here's what that would look like have you had actually entered in the correct info. You lack the reading comprehension skills to even know what model of computer I'm talking about. Why the hell should I trust your investment advice, when you can't even get your products straight?
Why would they sell it to you wouldn't they be better of leaving it running on their own? Not only are you holding back humanity, you are doing it by doing the one thing that is the most dangerous and hazardous action to our environment: consuming power. Go mow a lawn.

Why should one rather work his ass off for shit pay than just let the pc run and get paid way more? Like I said it's just a second source of income. I don't think that anybody mining bitcoins thinks that he will be able to survive on it alone for several years. It's something you do while also having a "real" job or studying. To get extra cash to save up or spend on nice things.
Why should one rather work his ass off for shit pay than just let the pc run and get paid way more?
Because there are benefits to even the shittiest of shit jobs? The people who mine bitcoins seem to treat them as an end-all solution to their money worries. they aren't, they never will be. And more importantly, where are the exchanges that provide real world currencies getting their money from? People don't buy bitcoins regularly due to the price being quite high normally, and I doubt they would have many adverts (seeing as the kind of people that mine these tend to be "hurr durr privacy!!!" people, they'd be blocking ads anyway). So, how in the world is this currency expected to stay afloat when people are building bigger machines to mine more, faster, whilst more people are doing this constantly? Their value should be constantly dropping as them seem to just get hoarded in the pools.
because it's socialist to have extra money and nice things!!!!! no but seriously I just don't see it really being worth it, way too risky sounding.
Well if you calcuate everything right then it's not that risky. Back then you could mine a good amount with a gaming rig. Only now you need a supermachine because of the increased difficulty. And sometimes one has to take risks. However I would be afraid to spend $30000 on a rig as well. [editline]22nd August 2012[/editline]
Because there are benefits to even the shittiest of shit jobs? It guess it depends on the person. I sure as hell wouldn't put too much trust in it. There were many sites that let you do that and you could even sell them on ebay. But yeah you had to find a buyer. Unless you sold them for a fixed price which was always lower than the current one. What seems to bother people that care for bitcoins is that many just treat it of a way to make easy money and don't really care for the currency itself.

But I just don't quite get how it still works today with thousands of coins all being held up by pools of users. There just doesn't seem to be much demand for them outside of bitmining communities, who'd be mining their own anyway.

Also, what's up with all the anger in this thread? The $30k machine is risky, yes, but unless bitcoin crashes to nothing and stays there (hasn't happened yet, but people would probably suddenly buy lots of them if they did, increasing demand, thus increasing price back up again) or unless bitcoin suddenly takes off and goes absolutely huge, thus increasing mining difficulty so much that the machine is no longer so impressive (also unlikely, but if it did happen, bitcoin value would probably be going up, so he'd just have to mine a bit longer to break even), so, assuming neither of those happen, then the machine will nearly certainly pay for itself in under a year, and continue creating value for years to come. The company that makes the machine is very well known and trusted in the bitcoin community. There are plenty of guides on how to make use of their current FPGA miners, and those also pay for themselves after enough time. If anything we should be encouraging him and waiting to hear from him how the project goes.

You see the one you want to order is called "mini rig SC [Super Computer]" which shows up nowhere on their website except the order page. In fact the only statistics I were able to see was slapped on the products page and a small minibar on the front page (where I saw mini rig which was the closest thing on the entire website). In fact there is no other numbers except this one they give you that you're supposed to believe completely. In fact their 'product' is SO shrouded in misinformation and hype with no supporting facts that it is nearly impossible to actually find anything out about it. Do you even know how big it is? NO INFORMATION IS GIVEN. It's a bloody scam That said if you really want to piss away $30,000 I'll take a $5000 fee and build you the fanciest damn mining computer you've ever seen. Hell, I'll even ship it to you free. That last big ponzi scheme that fell apart? That's the same thing they said. "We're well known and trusted in the bitcoin community"

This only affects those who buy into it, not bitcoin as a whole. Wild markets: with risk comes reward, this is what makes it fun Untrustable third parties: Like who? Shady: this company is already in production stage and has several satisfied customers, sounds like they're serious about it to me
