Also notice the graph, the value seems to go up in summer because more people use bitcoins, so really I could just use that to my advantage and simply stock up and sell them all in the summer months for huge profit.

They're boxes of very specialized chips and custom-built CPUs that are very optimized for executing the instructions bitcoin mining requires. Pixels have nothing to do with it, these things don't even have graphics capabilities and can't be hooked up to monitors. Designing your own CPU is expensive (surprise.) The 30k rig, if it produced with the currently reported specifications, has the mining power of over 1,200 AMD 7970 GPUs.
