Leaks indicate it's going to be an expansion to Duke Nukem 3D. Some images can be found here: http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/349675976 The maps look great IMO. You can do lots of nifty stuff with the Build engine, and this looks to be top of the line quality.
I was hoping there would be proper new Duke Nukem game
Judging from the tweets, quite the opposite actually.
Darn. I thought that would be a funny way to make him relevant because people in this thread are right that he's a caricature of a figure that doesn't really exist anymore.

So Gearbox are pulling a Postal 2 Paradise Lost it seems
So Gearbox are pulling a Postal 2 Paradise Lost it seems
Paradise Lost wasn't shit, though, and was an adequate way to wrap up the series.
So Gearbox are pulling a Postal 2 Paradise Lost it seems
Except they didn't pull Postal 2 from the store to force you to buy the new one.
Paradise Lost wasn't shit, though, and was an adequate way to wrap up the series.
This expansion is being made by Nerve Software, who also made the "No Rest For The Living" episode for Doom. From the looks of it, it will also include new weapons and enemies, and the screens of the new maps look great. I have no doubt about it, the expansion itself will be top-quality stuff. I just hope the price point won't be too high, and even then we might be getting a worse deal overall than with Megaton edition. Personally I'm kind of hoping that everyone who buys the re-release will also get access to Megaton edition, so that all the workshop content doesn't go to waste. But that's probably just a pipedream.
Duke Nukem is a dumb series nowadays. The overly macho manly man misogynist thing really is too dated. Young people don't really get it and the Genre of shooter that Duke Nukem fit into really isn't fun anymore
First off, people finding a genre fun is completely left in the matter of opinion area. Secondly; have we forgotten about things like the return of synthpop, Kung Fury and the Expendables? Or how about Broforce? People want it, people love it and there is an obvious demand for it. Just because you think its bad, doesn't means its bad nor does it mean it can't be explored further.
The time to reboot old classics is making its return. Wolfenstein and Doom were both great modern re-imaginations. I hope Duke gets a similar treatment.
i wish someone would just give duke to the team at ID that made the doom 4 campaign or machine games dont let gearbox shit on this franchise more please

I also disagree with you - the feel Duke Nukem 3d has is still a hell of a lot of fun.

To be fair, I can also see this as Gearbox testing the waters to see if there's still enough of a viable market for Duke, to see whether or not it would be worth it to make a brand new game in the series. Like a lot of people, I'm a little sketchy on whether Gearbox could actually deliver on that front, but I'll wait and see. They could just as easily lend the franchise out to other devs and just play publisher.

Didn't dnf have that one dlc campaign that was supposedly pretty good?
Didn't dnf have that one dlc campaign that was supposedly pretty good?
The Doctor Who Cloned Me was great. Better than the main campaign on pretty much every level.
I don't see why you guys are so quick to dismiss. Yeah Duke Nukem Forever was a pretty big let-down, but I'm actually pretty excited to see what they have. I have a feeling it'll actually be pretty damn cool.
I'm quick to dismiss because Gearbox is playing dirty again with their legal department. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1516621 Also if rumor ring true they're going to be George Lucasing the fuck out of the Megaton Edition and splicing memes throughout.

I feel with Wolfenstein and Doom that you could make a fairly solid Dukey game if they bash their heads together or get someone who are capable to make a shooter like Wolfy or Doom. It's not exactly rocket science. Im willing to bet Forever was just a fluke in tge disaster category. A game in development for over 3 years plus cant be healthy.

You'd really just need to build upon those concepts with solid modern environments that aren't boring or drab, a good (and balanced) variety of enemies that aren't all the same thing that square up against an empowered player, and solid Duke dialogue / story context. [sp]and I always figured something with as many explosives as Duke could benefit a lot from a Red Faction/Crackdown 3-esque idea of environmental destruction and devastation[/sp]

Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and i'm always happy to see more old school shooters get re-booted, even if they aren't ones that I personally would enjoy- and if that doesn't work there will always be a market for tasteless humour amongst edgy teenagers.

DNF turned Duke into little more than a douchebag. It was gross. The only way I'd see it working is something like Ash VS The Evil Dead where it takes the piss out of itself. Which I doubt Gearbox could do, as their style amounts to "Take shovel, apply to face."
I think there's a market for it if it's humor. DNF turned Duke into little more than a douchebag. There are definitely people that find being a douche the epitome of comedy.

-snip, not worth it-
and if that doesn't work there will always be a market for tasteless humour amongst edgy teenagers.
duke 3d has some pretty tasteful humor, cant say the same for dnf as i never played it
i wish someone would just give duke to the team at ID that made the doom 4 campaign or machine games dont let gearbox shit on this franchise more please
This. Id & Machinegames have done an awesome job rebooting Doom & Wolfenstein, I'd love to see that same caliber of treatment bestowed to Duke.
I'm assuming that this game has been in development for a while now, some time before Burch leaving, so it's entirely possible that he wrote for the game before leaving. It's definitely a shot in the dark but the same thing happened with Battleborn, so anything's possible.
so basically you're conjuring up a reason to dislike the game's writing anthony burch is a fucking tool but he hasnt worked at gearbox for ages and making a new DN3D episode would take a quarter of the time any other game development would soooo
About 7 minutes left on the countdown.
Get ready for disappointment per usual, I'm sure.
