How the fuck did I miss this
[editline]2nd September 2016[/editline]
Is it really just megaton edition: we took the other one down to make you buy this one edition
[editline]2nd September 2016[/editline]
suck my balls gearbox
[QUOTE=Jelman;50991495]I'd rather watch that sega/sonic stream again[/QUOTE]
Except it was ultimately, and actually, good. :smug:
Also: for everyone uninformed here, it turns out that shitty singing bit might've been ripped off from [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB4TOFhhaHM"]this segment from David Allen.[/URL]
this shit makes me wanna smash my DNF standee and not even DNF did that
[QUOTE=VenomousBeetle;50992063]Is it really just megaton edition: we took the other one down to make you buy this one edition[/QUOTE]
it's worse because see my previous post
also the fact that Megaton was like $8-10, which was great value for expansions and whatever was uploaded to the workshop, but this is $20 for Atomic Edition with re-recorded lines (that don't match game sound quality anymore [i]and[/i] all sound like Duke is bored as hell)
at this point the eight levels don't really matter, if they were made with Mapster32 then they could be easily exported to eDuke32 unless their engine fuckery ruined a lot of shit in the process
[QUOTE=RikohZX;50992013]After shutting down the previous re-release that had Workshop support and more content by way of the expansions, combined with absolutely shutting down the creator of said re-release from a smartphone port of everything Duke Nukem 3D (even the console ports) because they were making this. And if he's to be believed, they basically awkwardly cannibalized Polymer from eDuke32 by cloning it in a way that allows them to bypass any legalities.
I'm surprised Gearbox didn't shut down eDuke32 while they were at it.[/QUOTE]
Don't think I've ever heard of a studio being this fucking scummy. Jesus, stealing the art style for Borderlands, stealing money from Sega, and now this. Why does 2K do business with these punks?
I got confused because I kept looking for this 'True3D' rendering nonsense, expecting they actually put some kind of serious effort into enhancing the game visually. Is that really all they did, in the screenshots on the Steam store page?
Because eDuke32 with Polymer did that many many years ago, and did it better. Way better. What gives?
I used to blame 2k for this shit back in 2011
I used to be all "Gearbox isn't so bad guys, Borderlands 1 is nice and OpFor is the best HL imo, it must be 2k, they're just shoving DNF out using the old shit as per contract, they'll make a better real Duke you'll see"
cue borderlands 2
cue A:CM
cue literally everything Gbox has been doing since DNF
cue presequel
cue battleborn
cue this
[editline]2nd September 2016[/editline]
i curse thee randy pitchford

Because if one of eD32's creators is to be believed, the "True3D" rendering is ripped and altered from Polymer in a clone method that allowed Gearbox to bypass having to pay anyone royalties for the code.
can someone explain the bazinga thing
Seen a ton of people here reference it but idk what they're referring to

I'm gonna assume they're talking about big bang theory's memeish catch phrase
[editline]2nd September 2016[/editline]
from the sound of it it's used in the game?

old information from the Megaton dev about the new episode has implied that, like with Duke 3D's old levels, there'll be contextual Duke talk to certain setpieces or situations with entirely new dialogue (probably why they redid all the Duke Talk in the game so it doesn't clash horribly, although in the process it now clashes with the rest of the game's sound)
"Bazinga!" was outed as a primary quote among new dialogue and context implies it'll be more modern context humor
and considering the entire "DUKE FOR PRESIDENT" shtick behind the new episode, plus what looked like the middle east in some of the backgrounds, I get the feeling it's going to basically be quoting and pointing jabs at the current election and a little dabbling into the controversial conflicts overseas
If the Presidential Election humor was done well, I'd have no problem with it. Remember Duke It Out In DC?
Key word there.

[QUOTE=proboardslol;50948207]Duke Nukem is a dumb series nowadays. The overly macho manly man misogynist thing really is too dated. Young people don't really get it and the Genre of shooter that Duke Nukem fit into really isn't fun anymore[/QUOTE]
Yeah, because this is totally not a game released in 1996, being as old as a 20 years old game, and the fact that you think young people don't really get it is funny because we've had more violent video games and macho manly man characters than ever before, with 2016 Doom ranked as the second best-selling video game in the UK and the US. eww the young uns totally won't touch this! And if Anything, Duke Nukem 3D was the one of the reasons why we got better FPS games with better engines. And along with Doom, kickstarted tons of FPS games we all know today.
We don't talk about the flop the recent game was though, Duke Nukem should get an actual good game.
So I finally bothered to look into this.
I think I'll stick with the two other editions I own that were reasonable prices with more features than this shit.

yeah why aren't all my fps protagonists skinny twinks

Is that why people keep telling me how much they'd love a new Serious Sam

duke it out in dc was just a faithful recreation of the capital with a Bill Clinton president sprite, it wasn't a dated reference to an election cycle

I haven't played it in a few years, my memory is kind of hazy.
Still, they could have actually come up with election jokes that worked, and from what it seems, they failed.

any form of graphics enhancements for these games are stupid and all look terrible

iirc duke it out in DC exists because some guy won a map making contest with a super accurate level depicting an area of DC. They had him do more and made an expac out of it. That's also why it has the least amount of new sprites of the expansions
you can't buy the old duke nukem on steam anymore.

Megaton Edition has been off the store for a long time now
[editline]3rd September 2016[/editline]
If you check its community hub there is a thread from 3D Realms/Apogee/Devolver Digital explaining that Gearbox cut licensing, that's why you don't see any DN games but DNF or the apogee classics pack
[editline]3rd September 2016[/editline]
I'm guessing Shadow Warrior was sold off because they remain unaffected

Shadow Warrior is owned by Devolver Digital, and they aren't fuckwits like Gearbox thankfully.
Devolver Digital was the publisher for Megaton edition...
They fucking cut Manhattan project too? Fuck that shit
[QUOTE=Megadave;50993256]They fucking cut Manhattan project too? Fuck that shit[/QUOTE]
Yep, and the classic MSDOS Duke Nukum/Duke Nukem 2
[editline]3rd September 2016[/editline]
Yep and it looks like everything Duke Nukem is gone from GOG
fuck yourself gearbox
[editline]3rd September 2016[/editline]
currently it seems the only way to purchase this game legally is their new shit edition
[editline]3rd September 2016[/editline]
They might as well have CND'd eduke, its a wonder if it's usable with future legit copies
Hah! To hell with that. I'm not that desperate to play DN3D.
Seriously though, is there even a market for this? All I've seen is hate for it, I don't see how the hell it can sell that good.
remember that time gearbox shutdown a cryengine remake of DN3D because they thought it'd hurt sales of their DNF multiplayer DLC??? haha good company
glad i got the megaton edition on steam. I also have atomic edition on GOG.
