This is disgusting. What's the point in voting if it can get turned over by one biased judge and a few select people?
Yeah fuck the rights of a historically and still oppressed group of people; fuck them all and their happiness.
I'm kinda bummed about this.
No puns, please.
No puns, please.
Don't be such a party.. pooper.
No he isn't.
He's got a point though, it's stupid that a federal judge can just invalidate a majoirty vote. Weed for example.
It's not over until the appeals process is over- inevitably this decision will be appealed to the circuit court, and probably to the Supreme Court. Both sides are expecting this to go to the Supreme Court, and considering the volatility of this issue the judges will probably take it up.
No he isn't.
The majority rules thing is what's been going on forever. If you can't make everyone happy, make at least most people happy, right? I don't really support making gay marriage illegal with my heart or my head, but the majority rules thing has been serving us well since forever. I also agree that making gay marriage illegal is stupid and pointless, but whatever the majority says, even if it is retarded, goes. People just need to get smart and change their minds. But then again, maybe making it legal will make people realize that it isn't all that bad and then they'll change their minds.
He's got a point though, it's stupid that a federal judge can just invalidate a majoirty vote. We are not a true republic, so don't act like we are one.
Jesus will not be happy with this.
Not really Jesus was a tolerant person, people just took the bible's stories literally and decided to hate gays.

America is not a democracy, it never has been; we're a republic, this keeps the majority happy, while keeping the minority protected. These few instances are much better than the alternative of the tyranny of the majority.
That's not what I asked. Does the act of two men marrying affect you at all?
you still haven't answered my question.
Not really Jesus was a tolerant person, people just took the bible's stories literally and decided to hate gays.
Sodomy is still illegal in some countries and states aswell. So we still kinda win.

No prop 19 is still out there, I was using it as an example of how a federal judge can nullify it despite the majoirty vote.
Eh, you're right, but I support this overturning so I don't...really care.
Everyone supports over turning, but it sets a precedent.
Ok then. Let's have a government where nothing is decided on. It's impossible to get everybody happy. So in a logical sense we pick the majority. What the fuck do you want to do?
The barely-majority is trying to remove the rights on the barely-minority. it doesn't fucking matter if it's "the majority" if the majority of people here wanted you to die for no good reason, do you think it'd be a fair vote?
No prop 19 is still out there, I was using it as an example of how a federal judge can nullify it despite the majoirty vote.
You forgot :page3:
you should really just stop posting.
The people spoke on Prop 8, and then what happens to the fucking people's vote? It gets put down the shitter. Way to go. What a cunt of a judge.
Proposition 92: The execution of >VLN< I vote aye
Great! It should be legalized federally.
This is done routinely, the act of overturning a law that was voted on isn't a new precedent. The part about gay marriage is.
Regardless, what makes 12 old men any better to decide on an issue over the majority. (not talking about LGBT rights)
Regardless, what makes 12 old men any better to decide on an issue over the majority. (not talking about LGBT rights)
The same thing that makes a representative democracy better than a direct democracy in today's society - it prevents tyranny of the majority.
Regardless, what makes 12 old men any better to decide on a issue over the majority. (not talking abot LGBT rights)
They only really overturn things if they infringe upon people's rights. In those instances, they have the benefit of training as (usually) civil rights lawyers, and the benefit of years and years of experience overseeing court cases, which gives them a more educated perspective on people's rights. (Once you get to these higher courts) It's like asking why scientists should have the authority to make judgements about what is true in the physical world, it is because they have the expertise and they have studied these complex ideas for years on end, while a layman, at the very most, spent a few weeks becoming acquainted with the subject matter.
Me if this gets through:
I hope this happens everywhere, actually.
I hope that can't happen, fuck that shit
you are very misguided.
