Oh yes, this shit is finally happening. Also what was the arguments that the against gay marriage group had?
gays are evil and gay marriage is immoral praise jesus
Maybe we should make that a law too. :downs:
Sadly, it is in some places.
Yeah, I pictured a guy holding a giant sword yelling that off a balcony over the villagers below.
I pictured a hard old General with a Texan accent saying it. Badass indeed.
Oh yes, this shit is finally happening. Also what was the arguments that the against gay marriage group had?
Something about a storm.
Yes, that is the right person to thank...
Or it's just a figure of speech.
I'm not really for this because I don't like an overturning of the public's vote regardless of what it is about. As far as the topic of marriage, I don't think government should have anything to do with marriage. I don't they should give benefits to married couples, be able to allow or disallow certain kinds of marriages, and it goes on. Couples should be able to get civil unions and if they want to get "married" that should be a separate religious affair. Although I can't really see that catching on... "Monica, will you join me in a civil union?"
Something about a storm.
Oh no rain what ever shall we do? Or is it some other sort of storm like say a military force storming something? Or some sort of plague? Or am I just being overly curious here?
The government isn't there to make people happy, it's there to make things fair and just.
Then no government should be socialist. :colbert: We could go back and forth about this all day. There's no definition of what a government is "supposed" to do. If they are able to keep people relatively happy and keep things mostly fair, then they're OK in my book.
I'm not really for this because I don't like an overturning of the public's vote regardless of what it is about.
so tyranny of the majority is okay?
I'm not really for this because I don't like an overturning of the public's vote regardless of what it is about.
This kind of thing is exactly what the judicial branch is made for regardless of who made the law.
Oh no rain what ever shall we do? Or is it some other sort of storm like say a military force storming something? Or some sort of plague? Or am I just being overly curious here?
I believe he means storms of the shit kind, considering they often arise in threads containing controversial topics.
it's an expression
Oh yeah? So's this: Kiss my ass! :black101:
I believe he means storms of the shit kind, considering they often arise in threads containing controversial topics.
I was refering to the ad funded by the NOM
Oh yeah? So's this: Kiss my ass! :black101:
no
Eh, you're right, but I support this overturning so I don't...really care.
-snip- [editline]03:59AM[/editline]
What the fuck is the big deal? Besides being documented as a family marriage has nothing other beneficial besides ties with insurance and such. Gays just date in most countries. As much of a bigot as I sound right now, I would like marriage to be kept between a man and woman simply because it feels right, When I think of one guy in a tuxedo and another in a wedding dress it just doesn't fit. I'm not homophobic but it just doesn't seem.. ethical.
So the world should ban gay marriage just because straight marriage "feels right?" Dumb.
so tyranny of the majority is okay?
If you want to consider it to be tyrannical I suppose so. Personally I wouldn't go that far at all.
This kind of thing is exactly what the judicial branch is made for regardless of who made the law.
You're right on that and it they obviously have the law to back their decision. I'm not disagreeing with that.
If you want to consider it to be tyrannical I suppose so. Personally I wouldn't go that far at all.
uh, yeah it is tyrannical why should the majority be able to discriminate against minorities? so slavery was okay just because the majority supported it? not allowing blacks to marry was okay because the majority supported it?
Ok then. Let's have a government where nothing is decided on. It's impossible to get everybody happy. So in a logical sense we pick the majority. What the fuck do you want to do?
gee i dunno we have this cool little document we look to for advice when it comes to civil rights a little document you may have heard of called the constitution
Didn't read the thread but I know there is most likely an argument is going on by 16 year olds trying to be political. Glad this went through.
booze? don't you mean cocktails and apple martinis
HEY. There is NOTHING wrong with an appletini. :colbert:
The local news station reported on this, and they kept showing outraged Christians and it was hilarious. I couldn't believe how fucking retarded their arguments against gay marriage were, and they were blind with fury.
I am ok with this. There is nothing wrong with two people of the same sex wanting to be with one another for the rest of their lives.
I'm so glad that this actually got overturned. What I think about it that it never should have been allowed to pass in the first place. It got a very very small majority of votes (52.2% for, 47.8% against, 2.5% invalid). Stuff like this, where it has the potential to revoke key civil rights, should have been voted on Congressional-style: two-thirds majority or nothing at all.
No it would have been the same Circumstantial ad hominem
A gay judge passed a law permitting gay marriage. That you actually just called that circumstantial blows my mind. Regardless, I'm still amazed that people actually still argue about this. It all seems like an incredibly minor change to me that only retains its importance because it has the word "Marriage" in it.
Once we have gay marrige....... WE WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD AND MAKE YOUR CHILDREN GAY!
