Well how much can there be to the actual game if the goal is to sneak through the entire game? And what's the bow for? Surely this new Thief can work like Skyrim in stealth mode?
The game name is Thief, not Archer. I'd assume it was about stealing things, not assassinating everyone.

You have to walk in the darkness, watching your step and using your arsenal to be as quiet as possible. You can't afford to fight, too much noise that will alert every single guard. Oh, and don't forget about "special encounters", far more scary than a bunch of sorry ass draugrs, like the simple zombie, slowly crawling at you and basically immortal or the fucking ghosts if your mission is to ransack a ghost town.

I sincerely hope this does not take the Dishonored route. Garrett is not a parkour expert. He is not an expert assassin, or really much of a fighter at all. He doesn't have magic powers or really fancy gizmos; special arrows are about as cool as it gets. And that's what makes Thief what it is, a stealthy, risky game where the objective is to get in, do the job, and get out without anyone being the wiser. As mentioned, on the highest difficulty, you're not allowed to kill any humans. In one mission, you're not even allowed to be seen. It's not boring when you're in a world full of zombies, monsters, ruins, gods, and a whole bunch of different factions with conflicting goals, and there's a lot of gameplay opportunity that doesn't settle into the boredom of teleporting into a room, slaughtering everyone, and teleporting out.
While Hitman Absolution and Deus Ex HR were pretty awesome, let's see if Thief3 will be any better of an assassin simulator. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] Never played Thief 1 nor 2 btw.
What? This is Thief 4.
The graphics make think Rocksteady. If that's the case I will defiantly consider this game then.

Keepers have Jedi mind-trick abilities to blank people's minds and make themselves effectively invisible, and Garrett has some of that. He has never finished his training, however, so he can only use his Jedi mind-tricks when he's motionless in the shadow. Incidentally, he's still considered stealthier than even the best keepers who have finished their training because he's just that good, and he can nullify their Jedi mind-tricks, again simply because he is just that good. Though I completely agree. The whole premise is that Garrett is, by all accounts, physically just an average person, maybe even below average. He's a shitty fighter by design, he's weak and frail by design. He's not meant to be a master gymnast; he's just really good at stealth.
Well how much can there be to the actual game if the goal is to sneak through the entire game?
More than you think. What with there being an entire genre devoted to it and all. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] I mean, Splinter Cell, Hitman, Metal Gear. You've never even heard of any of those?
I hope they don't go too overboard with the 'steam' part of 'steampunk'. I really loved the balance of the first games, but that hi-tech composite bow grinds my gears in the wrong way.
I dunno, Garrett's fake eye is a weird blend of magic and mechanics. The universe has always had extremely heavy influence from some very unusual technology. The fact that his bow was so very standard is arguably unusual, rather than sensible, given the world surrounding him and even the type of arrows he uses with it. He just isn't superman.
hey would you look at that my dick's hard all I ask is taht this remains a proper stealth game if it's at all like human Revolution I will be the happiest fucking caper if this lpays like the old Thief's I don't even know happy I'll be oh man my excitement is critical
I would think so. He's still in the voice acting business, because he did voice acting for Skyrim (belethor, anyone?)
Don't forget his work on Mercer, leader of thieves guild. I'm pretty sure he did Mercer, right?
Don't forget his work on Mercer, leader of thieves guild. I'm pretty sure he did Mercer, right?
He did. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] His name is Stephen Russell.

What a blatant Dishonored rip off.
Well how much can there be to the actual game if the goal is to sneak through the entire game? And what's the bow for? Surely this new Thief can work like Skyrim in stealth mode?
It's a true stealth game. The whole point is to sneak through the level without being seen by anyone or killing anyone. Sure you can do those things but I don't see the challenge once you let that happen
Well how much can there be to the actual game if the goal is to sneak through the entire game? And what's the bow for? Surely this new Thief can work like Skyrim in stealth mode?
You're a thief mate, you steal shit, it's not a fucking assassination simulator, you're all about loot and not getting caught. YOU KNOW, LIKE A THIEF. [editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
More than you think. What with there being an entire genre devoted to it and all. My god, MY GOD!! FUCKING FINALLY! I just hope that Hammerites are in the game. They were the most badass fuckers around.
yes [editline]6th March 2013[/editline] yes!
Well yes, but that bow in particular is just out of place. And the balance between normal medieval and steampunk magic whatever was pretty damn good in the previous games.
Well yes, but that bow in particular is just out of place. And the balance between normal medieval and steampunk magic whatever was pretty damn good in the previous games.
How is the bow out of place?
How is the bow out of place?
Have you seen the weapons of the previous games? A blackjack, an ordinary wooden bow, a dagger and a bunch of different arrows.
maybe he just bought a new cool one with his money from the previous games
I dunno, I'm just sharing my opinion. I wouldn't hate the game over a bow :v:
Have you seen the weapons of the previous games? A blackjack, an ordinary wooden bow, a dagger and a bunch of different arrows.
I see your point, but I think the advancement was pretty logical, seeing how the world around Garrett was already so "sophisticated". Why would you carry on using your typical wooden bow and arrow when you can take advantage of the new technology? It's logical as long as it doesn't become absurd and silly, like emit fire or any other element. It's just a bow with some mechanics fit into it.
maybe he just bought a new cool one with his money from the previous games
Yeah, it's about time he was able to buy something nice. For being the world's greatest thief who stole priceless artifacts every night, he sure seemed to have trouble playing the rent on his crappy apartment.
I really hope they don't say THOSE words. "We want to cater to a wider audience." That phrase triggers so many warning flags that all my hype just evacuates the vicinity, it just destroys any hopes of it being what people actually want and more towards to being dumbed down and just plain dull. I mean, TES had this same thing happen with Oblivion and Skyrim (Moreso in Skyrim), Hitman Absolution had this issue. I had such hopes for both. Though this is just how I see it, it happens way too often to be just coincidence.

As a thief I'd want to be weighed down a little as possible so as to be more agile. Speaking of which, it always bugged the shit out of me how people moaned and bitched when they switched out his sword for a dagger in Deadly Shadows. Like what kind of thief runs around with a fucking broadsword? The damn thing is gonna weigh you down, smack into shit and clatter around all the damn time. A dagger is much more sensible imo.
