No need to have high expectations for this, we are all hyped because we played Thief as kids, everything was fun back then. Thief 4 may turn out to be good but I don't see reason to think that it's going to be "really good".

I'm happy if it even is AS GOOD as Deadly Shadows.
You know, I haven't ever played Thief and I want to now.
Which one should I start with, which should I do after, and which should I avoid if any?

They're all good, although Thief 2 is the best.
Play them in order.

This.
Each game will give you a better appreciation for the different factions in the City, as each game puts a different faction in the spotlight.

While I'll agree that T2 is the best in the series my favorite will always be DS.
Thief, then Thief 2, then DS if you really want to. Thief Gold (get this version, not The Dark Project) is the best of the series, Thief 2 added in a bunch of weird stuff like robots and cameras that were clear implementations of System Shock 2 code, and a mediocre story because it was originally meant to be a mission pack with no overall plot.
That said, Thief 2 does have more break-and-enter missions as opposed to the Raiders of the Lost Ark kind of stuff in the first game, so if that's more your preference you may like Thief 2 more.

You say that like DS is shit or something
Hope they don't fuck this up.
Never played a thief game before, but this sounds like just the kind of game im waiting for.

From a technical standpoint it is a steaming pile of shit.
Which is a shame, because as a game it is pretty entertaining.
Load screens with long load times every 15 seconds is annoying as hell. Note that no, modern computers do not decrease the load times at all. In fact the load times are so static and defined that I'm almost curious if it wasn't intentional. The original XBOX had a pretty hard time for a while and a PC version with near instant load screens would have really shined a spotlight on how utterly shit the original XBOX was from a hardware standpoint.
As soon as I heard about this, I redownloaded Thief 2 and gave it a whirl again. I have to say, it really is a brilliant game - it practically perfected the stealth genre, especially of the late nineties/early naughties. They'll be hardpressed to make a game as good as the first two, but their experience with Human Revolution gives me some confidence.

My load times are like 5-10 seconds and have always gone down with a newer, faster computer.
I'll concede that at the time of the games release it ran like poop but these days it's hardly an issue worth noting.

Weird, with both Deus Ex IW and Thief DS (same engine), I have had static load times despite newer computers and radically different setups each time.
