There shouldn't be.
I really, really, really hate rape. It happened to an immediate family member (preceded by kidnapping) and it's stuck in all of our lives for years. If it's just a "oh she might get raped" thing or whatever then cool, get angry and kill them. But if it's like a monologue of the things they could do to her or if she's tied up or something then I really don't want to reenact this. Reading over the thread a bit it looks like it's a knife stabbing or something? Where did the definite "rape victim" come from then?

While I respect your situation it is true for all stories in all forms of media, Call of Duty may hit too close to home to veterans. It is simply unavoidable and a part of freedom of speech/art that has to be tolerated.

It's the fear and vulnerability that drive Laura as a character and attach the player to her.
Reading over the thread a bit it looks like it's a knife stabbing or something? Granted, there's a bit of a Deliverance vibe there, but a themepark version of Deliverance you'd take the kids on to calm them down after riding The Haunted Mansion.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol_-QGlwRqc Wait. Was this the trailer everyone is freaking out about? Because I read about this already and the description in there is exactly what I just watched. Man getting beaten up and shot in the face. I see no signs pointing to "she will be raped."
I know it doesn't make the sound their suits usually do when they're killed, but I have a hard time believing that she "just knocked them out" when they're in a crumpled heap on the ground looking very dead - I'd like to give valve the benefit of a doubt that in a scripted sequence they could at least post the ragdolls like they'd just been knocked out if that's what they were trying to get across :v:. I don't think it's unreasonable to say she spared them though and I can definitely see where you're coming from
she even says that it takes them a while to wake up
she even says that it takes them a while to wake up
She said that the Combine take a while to get roused, but are a hell of a problem once they're rolling. Like how America was supposedly a "Sleeping Giant" woken up by Pearl Harbor in WWII.
2:20 he starts feeling her up, pretty much a precursor to rape
And then she knees him a few times, fights for a gun and then the guy got raped by a bullet to the face.
guess we ought to ban every game containing any of those
hey point out the post where i say we should ban this game
hey point out the post where i say we should ban this game
Well, if they refuse to remove it, then what else is there to do since it is such a massive travesty?
hey point out the post where i say we should ban this game
I am more annoyed by the fact that your entire argument against the game is wrong for the following reasons. No, there is no rape in the game No, the developers did not boast about rape in the game as you claimed
you're in a thread in which a developer is announcing a depiction of rape in their upcoming game. unless i'm mistaken and developers want to sabotage their own hype and sales, i'm pretty sure he's trying to convince you that the game is good and worth playing
Your entire argument about this game was based on a single abhorrent source.
Well, if they refuse to remove it, then what else is there to do since it is such a massive travesty?
say it's stupid? [editline]15th June 2012[/editline]
Your entire argument about this game was based on a single abhorrent source.
the entire thread is based on this abhorrent source, i can't really be faulted for that.
the entire thread is based on this abhorrent source, i can't really be faulted for that.
You're pretending to be offended because you have the need to bitch about something without any basis to bitch about it, so yeah, you can be faulted.
You're pretending to be offended
please point out the post where i said i was offended.
please point out the post where i said i was offended.
So you're just arguing for the sake of arguing? What exactly IS your point? You've been debating points that are all over the place.
So you're just arguing for the sake of arguing? What exactly IS your point? You've been debating points that are all over the place.
uh first i said that i thought it was kind of silly for them to advertise the rape, and then we debated about the difference between rape and murder depictions in videogames. i think you have me confused with someone else since apparently i said "i was offended, we should ban this game", even though i didn't fucking say any of that.
uh first i said that i thought it was kind of silly for them to advertise the rape, and then we debated about the difference between rape and murder depictions in videogames.
I kinda doubt one quote is 'advertising rape'
i think you have me confused with someone else since apparently i said "i was offended, we should ban this game", even though i didn't fucking say any of that.
Annnd I didn't say you wanted the game banned. There's a massive difference between appearing offended and saying something specific.
It seems more like "Lara Croft to be victim of attempted rape, but kills the guy canonically". You could've thrown the same situation at more mature Lara and the outcome would be essentially the same I assume. The only difference would probably be the emotional response that Lara has to the event, and I feel like a lot hinges on how well the writers handle that. I almost feel like it could go both ways. We could either get an Other-M level abortion, or something decent. All that we can do is wait and see. [editline]15th June 2012[/editline] For whatever reason "She is literally turned into a cornered animal." Doesn't give me much confidence though.
So you're just arguing for the sake of arguing?
You must be new here.
You must be new here.
It's Goblin, all this is is the pot calling the kettle black.
It's Goblin, all this is is the pot calling the kettle black.
lol With your nonsensical and outright stupid posts, you have absolutely no right to talk about anyone, thisispain and me included.
lol With your nonsensical and outright stupid posts, you have absolutely no right to talk about anyone, thisispain and me included.
Okay sure, thank you. Shouldn't you be in some other thread spouting about how the US military is evil or something?
Okay sure, thank you. Knife cuts both ways, mate.
Welp not buying this one. Was sort of looking forward to it, but being raped is not exactly how I'd like to spend my free time, let alone watching as hacks try to use rape as a shallow, transparent emotional ploy to get me "emotionally invested" (ala Starchild) in lieu of using good writing. I might get it if there were more of a point to the scene aside from flimsily justifying Lara Croft's first murder. Coupled with the "cornered animal" and "protect her" comments, these guys are transparently shitty writers. Honestly I'm less offended by the rape thing than I am the fact that it's just an insult to my intelligence. As if I'm not going to realize they're just trying to shock me into giving a shit. Hey why don't you kill a child, too? That worked out really well for Bioware! Maybe Lara should have an space alien abortion! Because that's so shocking and tense that it might just make up for the fact that you don't know how to write a character. Don't worry, video game writers. If you can't think of a way to endear your character to the audience, just do something horrible as fuck in front of them and play some piano music when it's done!
yes that's clearly the only alternative to depicting attempted rape
You know, its funny, its like you didnt even watch the video of the part they're complaining about. And, you know, i dont know about you, but, toching someone on the lower torso before attempting to drive a sharp object through their chest doesnt exactly sound like attempted rape, sounds more like murder. Its like you only looked at the thread title. [editline]16th June 2012[/editline]
Welp not buying this one. The video shows a russian dude cornering her, touching her side, and then she knees him in the dick, its a quick time event, i actually read up, unlike you, and if you fail, all he does is stab a bitch.
