Halo 3 has 40 000 lines of dialogue :colbert: [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] And considering all the marines are the same throughout.
Why are you talking about other game's dialog?
Why are you talking about other game's dialog?
Left 4 Dead 2 has 7800 lines of dialogue, and that game doesn't even have a real story. Of course a ton of it is dumb stuff like, "reloading!", but who's to say there isn't tons of pointless stuff in this? What I am getting at is people are hyping themselves over something not very impressive. Maybe the lines will be amazing, I don't know. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] And some are saying it will be a big game file!? Are you serious?
You do realize there's a FIVE THOUSAND less lines in L4D2? Can you crunch that number?
You do realize there's a FIVE THOUSAND less lines in L4D2? Can you crunch that number?
Nevermind, there is no use.
Makes me wonder how big the resulting game cache files are.
Hopefully they finally implemented something to compress voice files instead of having to use uncompressed WAVs Speex would be good
Halo 3 has 40 000 lines of dialogue :colbert: [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] And considering all the marines are the same throughout.
13k is alot for a puzzle solver.
When it says line, I think it means short separate phrase that a character says. Like one for GLaDOS would be 'I've been really busy being dead', which probably wouldn't be much more than about 50kB.
significantly less approximately 80 words is 10kb [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] oh audio, so nvm
that's cool how the taunts are like the emotes on watching with a party on netflix for 360
ITT: Arguing over how much dialogue are in totally different games.
"Cake is a lie" x 13,000 lol
Valve are going all out on this one, will be GOTY easily.
This doesn't mean a thing if the game is short, it just means there's a lot of talking. If the game is as short as the first, you'd hear nothing but talking the whole 3 hours you played the game. I remember playing about an hour of Black Ops to see what all the hubbub was about, and it ended up containing more talking than gameplay.
Woah, Valve are really putting an astounding amount of effort into this.
They put all their effort into one game at a time, that's what makes them truly great. [editline]15th January 2011[/editline]
I don't like how it's a stand alone game, but it still looks really REALLY good, I can't wait 3 months :frown:
Why don't you explain why you don't like the fact it is a standalone game.
Meh. Not hyped at all, lately i kinda don't trust valve. Especially since all this hat bullshit started. But i hope they won't fuck anything up.
Meh. Not hyped at all, lately i kinda don't trust valve. Especially since all this hat bullshit started. But i hope they won't fuck anything up.
Don't blame Valve for the inanity of the Team Fortress 2 community, that isn't fair.

I'm going to buy 3 copies of this game. One for steam, one for a backup and one to put in a solid gold shrine I have ready. :flashfap:
Rating my post dumb is ignorant. I bet any of you wouldn't trust, in example, Activision if they would plan to publish some game, and thats because of their lately happened events. But since "Its Valve" you can forgive them without any afterthoughts, eh? People can be really stupid.

All of them are brilliant. Why wouldn't we trust them with this again?
It's nice to see Valve putting extreme effort into this game. It makes me want it more.

They hate activision blindly because they have reason to. Opinions do not matter in social enviroments. Once hated, and they will continue to be hated because they repeat mistakes.
Meh. Not hyped at all, lately i kinda don't trust valve. Especially since all this hat bullshit started. I absolutely see your point about hats but you must have another reason for the distrust.
Okay, well episode 3 better have 30,000 then.
i wonder how many lines Portal 1 had.
i wonder how many lines Portal 1 had.
Probably less than 150. - Edit: Disregard this estimate, Max posted the accurate number below this post. Most of the reason Portal 2 is going to a much bigger scale than the first is because the first was mostly an experiment - a small team assigned to it as a side-game along with the bigger Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2. When the first Portal caught on with just about everyone, they decided to pull everything in for the second game.
i wonder how many lines Portal 1 had.
379.
:ssh: It's one word per line.
When I hear Merchant's voice on Wheatley, I can't stop imagining that GLaDOS will have Karl Pilkington's voice.
