Do you know what Dungeons and Dragons is? You may not have heard of it before. It's basically World of Warcraft, but on paper, a little slower paced, and was made around 35 years earlier.
Yes and what does that have to do with modern video games? [editline]01:21AM[/editline]
As a huge Blizzard fanboy, I'm gonna have to say, no, not at all.
Portal isn't very imaginative if you think about it, it's basically just an FPS game but you fuck with physics and make portals. It's just a puzzle game with some catchy phrases, like sodoku mixed with Bill Cosby. CS:S and TF2 all lack sufficient story, most of the Tf2 storyline was just bullshit and doesn't make sense. "HIS GRANDFATHER WAS AN ENGINEER TOO?! :O" HL Story is very barebone compared to the warcraft series; there's huge amount of unexplained events, which is why ep 3 is taking so long in my opinion. DoD:S is a WWII game and ricochet is barely anything.

That's pretty much exactly what it is, without any shred of originality. Valve games are fairly original, they have references to other material but besides that are wholly fresh and revolutionary. They've pretty much mastered physics within a game. World of Warcraft didn't do anything new. They just took all the shit from other MMOs, made it look cartoony, made it big, and sold it to people.
Again, I will say: Name something about WoW- gameplay mechanics, original plot twists, original classes, anything- that's truly, truly original. I guarantee you you won't come up with anything that isn't either debatable or incredibly minor. What we have here is either a complete dumbshit or a below average troll. Either way, it's rather pointless to continue this line of discussion.
Also you've probably just started a huge shitstorm. Congrats.
Actually, with WoW it's the other way around. Wow was pretty much the first BIG mmo, I mean BIG. You have to remember, WoW came out WAYYYYYYYYYY the fuck back in 2004. There were really no other MMOs they could take it from at that time. The games been out way longer than you think it has, that's why so many people are like "lol why did wow copy all the good games" Also you have to think about it. WoW is a STANDARD of the MMO genre. That pretty much means this it is expected, by the consumer, that any MMO that comes out is as good or better than WoW. That has to say SOMETHING

[editline]01:43AM[/editline] WoW isn't perfect, but the warcraft series is better than the HL series. Which is what I'm trying to say, stop side tracking.
WoW didn't revolutionize anything, they just did everything that already existed in an extremely intuitive and polished manner.
WoW didn't revolutionize anything, they just did everything that already existed in an extremely intuitive and polished manner.
Which is why it's famous. Romeo and Juliet is actually copied from several older stories, one is called Pyramus and Thisbe. But you've only ever heard of the shakespeare one haven't you? [editline]01:50AM[/editline] They took all the ideas, refined them and put them into one game.
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
valve is more like the dreamworks of the gaming world
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
Now this is a reasonable statement.
As a huge Blizzard fanboy, I'm gonna have to say, no, not at all.
I'm going to have to agree. WoW is Blizzard's worst game IMO. And yet I play it every day.
Blizzard is the Pixar of gaming? They were until they got bought by Activision.
Blizzard is the Pixar of gaming? They were until they got bought by Activision.
They didn't. Goddamn. My head is going to explode from all the stupid in this thread.
I love Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft but I can't fucking stand WoW. I can barely play it, it's so terribly boring.
How could any of you disagree with this, TF2 is pretty much The Incredibles: The Game
Half life 2 is like fucking toy story
I love Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft but I can't fucking stand WoW. I can barely play it, it's so terribly boring.
It's hard to start up because the endgame is the best part and it takes forever to get there [editline]03:10AM[/editline]
They didn't. Goddamn. My head is going to explode from all the stupid in this thread.
No, Vivendi owns Activision and Activision merged with Blizzard
For monthly subscription? Lol are you kidding me? What else is there, EVE, FFXI? LMAO
Seems like you're pretty much a box collector, carry on with the good job sir.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activision_Blizzard Automerge broke but you get the point
But it was a table game WAY before it went to the computer.
The point was you can't call something a copy if the "copy" was meant to be the thing it's "copying".
No, Vivendi owns Activision and Activision merged with Blizzard
Jesus H Jehova. Vivendi owned Blizzard. Then Vivendi acquired Activision.
It's hard to start up because the endgame is the best part and it takes forever to get there
I get bored pretty quickly with raiding, and end up doing things like dropping a train in the center of the room during the first phase of Kel'Thuzad.
No, Vivendi owns Activision and Activision merged with Blizzard
As much as I dislike the stupidity of the other guy, he is right. Vivendi owned Blizzard(Along with a few others) since 1998. Blizzard and those few others made up Vivendi Games. In 2008 Vivendi Games merged with Activision and used Blizzard's name in the company name to form Activision Blizzard.
This quote is very true (Although I disagree with their shout out to Bioware*). Blizzard has had a outstanding ethic when it comes to their products. They release when they think it is ready, and they don't release things they don't want to play, regardless of the resources spent making it (i.e. Ghost). To me, Pixar is a fantastic company because they release so many movies, all which are fantastically written, and beautifally animated. Their attention to detail is phenominal. *The reason I disagreed with their shout out to Bioware is that, although aspects of their products are great (story elements, game length, certain other things), I feel a lot of their products have certain aspects which greatly fall short. For instance, Dragon Age, a fun and addicting game, had noticable laziness when it came to their art and exploration, as well as cinemetography. This is compensated by a rich lore that they created, yet, they shouldn't need to compensate. Tl;dr: Blizzard and Pixar are great, Bioware is decent.
Of course Warhammer stole some old fantasy, dwarves, elves, etc, stolen or not, Blizzard did take from Warhammer.
Of course Warhammer stole some old fantasy, dwarves, elves, etc, stolen or not, Blizzard did take from Warhammer.
People like you are retarded, I swear to god...
People like you are retarded, I swear to god...
Yes, they did hire Blizzard to make some RTS, yada yada yada, then they made Starcraft with all of that work. But that was only one game, what about the others?
Of course Warhammer stole some old fantasy, dwarves, elves, etc, stolen or not, Blizzard did take from Warhammer.
I can't tell if you're defending Blizzard here.
Seriously, this shit about Blizzard and Valve and who's better is retarded. Both have made amazing games and both are fucking awesome companies.
Seriously, this shit about Blizzard and Valve and who's better is retarded. Both have made amazing games and both are fucking awesome companies.
Indeed.
Yes, they did hire Blizzard to make some RTS, yada yada yada, then they made Starcraft with all of that work. But that was only one game, what about the others?
What others? Warcraft was entirely their own and Diablo was their own, but was influenced by a few rogue likes.
