[QUOTE=LtKyle2;51397861]Not every tile will have solar cells in them? Cutting through glass sends shivers down my spine, it will probably be like cutting through fiberglass tubs and the slightest slip up will leave visible cracks and a pissed off client.[/QUOTE] If you fuck it up I imagine it would just shatter. That's because that's tempered glass. You can't cut tempered glass. This is the reason you can't drill most aquarium bottoms. If the Tesla Glass is tempered like regular tempered glass then I imagine it can't be cut either.

When you're using this [img_thumb]http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/1000/3b/3b2fae20-53f1-4c16-b40c-6f92cd4d1da0_1000.jpg[/img_thumb] with something like this [IMG]http://www.ereplacementparts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/P1130231c.jpg[/IMG] Using it on glass feels VERY MUCH NOT RECOMMENDED from experience. Drilling wood is already a pain in the ass, I can't imagine glass. [editline]19th November 2016[/editline] thumbed img, my bad
[QUOTE=ZombieWaffle;51392482]If a photo-voltaic panel was transparent, that'd be an awful waste. However, the cells of the panel are invisible from an angle while they are visible from the top of it. The tiles themselves are apparently made of tempered glass. The roofing tiles look like this: [img_thumb]https://www.tesla.com/tesla_theme/assets/img/solar/styles-textured_glass.jpg?20161025[/img_thumb][img_thumb]https://www.tesla.com/tesla_theme/assets/img/solar/styles-terracotta.jpg?20161025[/img_thumb][img_thumb]https://www.tesla.com/tesla_theme/assets/img/solar/styles-slate.jpg?20161025[/img_thumb] edit: oh god oops let me fix that[/QUOTE] if the photovoltiac cells are only visible straight-on, how do they obtain useful light at an angle? [editline]edit[/editline] oh wait, they just redirect it straight don't they

Tesla are going to install these themselves anyway I imagine so third parties don't need to worry about it. Solarcity had about 15,000 employees most of which being installers.

I really am curious to see how they do it.
I'm curious to see the installation myself and see how well they hold up to real world abuse and water. I didn't see much flashing on those demo roofs iirc.
What happens when it hails? Are the panels tough enough to handle that?
[QUOTE=gbtygfvyg;51401334]What happens when it hails? Are the panels tough enough to handle that?[/QUOTE] A lot tougher than regular tiles. If hail breaks these tiles then everyone else's regular roofs will be fucked as well.
