That's good for them. I'm sick of having to suffer because others have a constant need of feeding their addiction. Can't wait till they ban smoking at bus stops here in Australia too.
Sometimes I wish I had asthma so if someone decides to smoke near me then they'd feel bad about it.
This was done 3 years ago in my country, I'm a smoker myself and I dont mind.
Smoking while eating is awful anyway.

Why would you ban smoking at a bus stop?
It's outdoors.

Uh I have asthma and I've never noticed anyone feel bad for me when they smoke.. It's really not that great.
We had a shitstorm like this a while ago, and some bars built ventilated heated areas for indoor smoking (though that's rare). Otherwise, people just got used to it.
As I non-smoker, I can say: Good.
I remember seeing this weird table in Velenje, they had a heater built into its ''pilar'' (it was one of those tables with one leg in the middle). Pretty neat :v:
Yeah, cigs are bad, we get it. You don't need to bitch about it, it's as stupid as a night of drinking or anything else, yeah, it's bad, but honestly, I don't see why that matters to you if it's not your business.

If someone does something that is intrusive to other people, then they should be the ones that have to step aside or make sure that other person isn't inconvenienced. For example, when talking on a cellphone people tend not to shout in someones face, or how we put our hands over our mouths when we cough. It's not a big deal, but it is common courtesy. I don't go out of my way to make someone stop smoking, though and I have no problem sitting outside if one of my friends wants to smoke.

Which is why I don't get it. Smoking ISN'T intrusive unless the person smoking is intrusive and a dick.
Good. Smoking is for morons.
I disagree with smoking but I'm not telling other people not to smoke. :colbert:
I can see why in restaurants but I don't think it should be banned in bars.
I think the bars and restaurants should have a choice in if they want to be a smoking or no smoking restaurants.
I love how all the smokers in this thread are trying to defend their addiction by saying the choice should be with the bar owners.

I'm not defending my addiction. You're attacking me for absolutely nothing. I KNOW i'm addicted to ciggs and I just don't fucking care. Get that through your head. I honestly don't care about this legislation at all, but why should the choice lie elsewhere?
Smoking has been banned in restaurants here for ages. Vendors can no longer show cigarettes in their stores. Smoking is reaching an all time low where I live. A few years ago, you always would find cigarette butts littering the street, and smokers everywhere. Its not like that any more. Wouldn't be surprised if many shops stopped stocking cigarettes within a couple of years.

We have all of that, but smoking is still pretty big here.
don't see a problem here with the ban, if you wanna smoke just go outside

I love generalization.
Don't you?
Personally I believe it should be up to the owner, but clearly that's just evil these days.

I've never smoked, way to grab a strawman and beat it with your tiny dick.

shouldn't it...be? what the fuck? it should be up to the owners of the property, not the government
There are many banned bars, why there aren't a separate table so you can smoke on it?
Well.. so much for sitting in coffee houses with friends, sipping on tasty espresso, talking about whateverthefuck, and enjoying filtered Lucky Strikes.
Ah well.

Off to Russia, I suppose.

Even if you tried to ban it what would be your reasoning seeing as there's sufficient ventilation?

Just sit outside?
This should be the restaurant owners prerogative. there is no reason for this to be a law beyond feel good pointless legislation.

You are why I hate facepunch
I can definitely see smoking being banned in restaurants, but being banned in bars strikes me as odd. Next they're going to ban beer there.

Do you speak russian? If not, you will get beaten up.
We have all of that, but smoking is still pretty big here.
Well in Britain smoking used to be a huge thing too, eighty odd percent of males over sixteen smoked (some younger) but thanks to the NHS campaign and certain law restrictions and awareness campaigns its down to around twenty percent.

I have asthma and second hand smoke, or smoke in general has barely any effect on it. Dust particles and cat dander are the biggest trigger. It pisses me off when people complain about second hand smoke and using their health as the scapegoat. Unless you are sitting in clouds of second hand smoke every single day its not going to have a discernible effect on your health. second hand smoke research is quickly turning from modest discovery into bloated urban myth. Most people can chain smoke for a good 50 years before they develop serious medical complications, what makes you think being around a wisp of smoke every month or so is going to have an effect on your health? Neurotic people just use second hand smoke as a ploy to feed their own issues.
"Second hand smoke is bad for my health" is a crap excuse, tell them to put the cigarette out because it smells like shit.

...I... I think I love you.
Finally a rational post.
They banned it here in Tennesse... Two years ago, I think? Not much changed, so I don't think it mattered. At most, the Shoney's restaurants put benches and ash trays outside.
