Of course something will replace them. But until then everything (including us) will be ROYALLY fucked.
And replacing the bees will take a very long time.
Lmao a lot of elitist cunts in this thread Bees aren't the only insect capable of pollinating. They are the best, but they aren't the only insect that fills that role. [editline]30th March 2013[/editline] Saying the entire ecosystem would collapse is rather dramatic. More likely it would take a hit and adapt, as nature always has and always will. It's hardly the stuff of "we're fucked" though.
Learn what a niche is and then come back. [editline]31st March 2013[/editline]
Insects arent technically "present" in their sorroundings like you and i are. That fly is mindlessly responding to its nerves telling it its being eaten, there is no fear, anguish or even pain, i assure you.
They lack proper nervous systems to feel pain, most arthropods don't feel pain.
Acting defensive for being wrong? Wrong about what dude I literally asked someone to explain the importance All i got was a bunch of non-answers from some cunty aspies with a snobby attitude, and you wonder why people rag on facepunch, lmao. It would be different it I said they were wrong and then tried to vehemently defend my position after, but I didnt have a position to begin with. I was asking why.
http://www.eatingwell.com/food_news_origins/green_sustainable/the_importance_of_bees_to_our_food_supply http://www.mnn.com/local-reports/pennsylvania/local-blog/the-importance-of-honeybees [thumb]http://images.mnn.com/sites/default/files/user-1873/mnn%202.jpg[/thumb] the importance is that there is a MASSIVE portion of shit that we will lose Bee's are the best because nothing compares to their pollinating power.
You cant stumble into a discussion and expect everyone has time to educate you about basic biology.
no but you can post a simple graph and educate him about basic biology.
no but you can post a simple graph and educate him about basic biology.
but how do we know he has the simple mental faculties to process such information?
but how do we know he has the simple mental faculties to process such information?
Because we can educate him. We have the technology.
but how do we know he has the simple mental faculties to process such information?
Because he worked out how the letters on the keyboards make words.
Science has gone too far
but how do we know he has the simple mental faculties to process such information?
no reason to be a condescending douche and act like your base knowledge is shared amongst everyone god damn dude, you realize this is a condescending as shit view point, yeah? or you're joking and my sarcasm meter is switched to off
Its also condescending to assume the worst about people.
Which you're doing.
Oh go away
Its also condescending to assume the worst about people.
You mean exactly what you were doing? [sup][sup][SUP][SUP][SUP]Hurray for my internet being shit today![/SUP][/SUP][/SUP][/sup][/sup]
Oh go away
Why not take your own advice? You're all pissing in the thread and at each other. I know it's ironic to complain about complainers, but lets be blunt. This is about the ecosystem and not about any one of you. I am more than sure you're nice intelligent people deep down, so why not act like it? You're not going to impress anyone on an internet forum. So, without further interruption. This is a pretty awful thing that has happened and I hope all of you realize the importance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_crop_plants_pollinated_by_bees Lots of these crops are going to either become extinct, become rare commodities, or become genetically altered to survive in tomorrow's eco systems if this keeps happening. This is only crops, think about every plant, think about every fruit, ever flower, pollinated by bees. Think about all the animals that eat bees or rely on them besides just plants. Think about it like cause and effect, think of how this will hurt other things besides plants. I don't need a source and you don't need a genius to figure out that losing all these planets or dwindling their numbers will hurt our eco-system as a whole. Infact, nay. I say the entire world and us with it. The loss of the bee is a lose for everything and everyone. additional sources http://www.wvbeekeepers.org/crop plants pollinated by bees.html http://www.nrdc.org/wildlife/animals/files/bees.pdf
My neighbor is a doctor who happens to be a bee expert on the side. He has several colonies or hives, not sure what he calls them. Anyway, he mentioned to me one day that a big reason why they started dying off is because people found out there is money in Bee keeping... Well China started churning out these wooden hives for amateur bee keepers to use. They were VERY CHEAP, so ANYONE could get into it. The problem, they are cheap and mass produced, and the wood they used had a parasite or virus or something in it that was killing bees. Well these bees then infect other hives. tl;dr version: People found money in bee keeping. Bought cheap, mass produced hives that were infected. Bees killed and spread "bee plague". Bee's die.
I think there is more to it than that. That is literally the first time I have ever heard that theory. If it were that obvious then there would have been something in SH by now.
Sorry. I didn't mean to make that sound like THE reason for it happening... I was mentioning it as part of a reason.
hopefully the last remaining bees will survive because they have some sort of immunity to what's killing them...
Hopefully as the switch to genetic modification is made in agriculture, the use of pesticides will decline enough to allow bees to recover.
