• Scientists Reconstruct Video Clips From Brain Activity In Historic Experiment

I imagine when there are more refined clips, this could get much more accurate.
What the FUCK did I just watch.
They should do this again, but make the subject visually think of a certain object. Also, let them watch a youtube video, and you can see the accuracy of the algorithm by how many times that youtube video is selected.
Record your own dreams. INSTANT NIGHTMARE FUEL.
i can't wait for the first real video created from brain activity alone is recorded. it'll be a bigger achievement than the first motion picture and first audio recording combined
2008: And now this. The future is bright.
I'd rather not have this develop into a real-time thought tracker. It's cool and all, but it can easily be used for the wrong purposes.
what does the static words and pictures mean?
I HAVE NO IDEA BUT I GOT SCARED I ALMOST FELT OFF MY CHAIR BRB, GOING TO JIZZ MY BALLS EMPTY :/
It's like those memories from Assassins creed, how they're blurry and stuff...
They should try this with people who are under the influence of hallucinogens when they've got it working a bit better. Perhaps schizophrenics?
Guess who just got A+ from Biology test :Brofist: Btw it's called 10+ in finland :3
Guess who just got A+ from Biology test :Brofist: Btw it's called 10+ in finland :3
who fucking asked

It looks fucking terrifying
Am I the only one that thought something like this could happen?
College Humor what the fuck that picture is not yours
Some of the reconstructions don't really match up with the actual clips. The elephants were skipping all over the place.
There are random words in the video for some reason like "record" I find that a bit strange. At the 0:14 mark you can see several words such as the example i provided above.

After recording this information, the activity from the second group of clips was used to reconstruct the videos shown to the subjects on a computer screen. The computer analyzed 18 million seconds of random YouTube video, building a database of potential brain activity for each clip. From all these videos, the software picked the one hundred clips that looked more similar to the ones the subject watched, combining them into the final movie. Although the movie is low res and blurry, it clearly matched the actual clips watched by the subjects.
It says right in the article the clips on the right were pulled from YouTube, and weren't necessarily the clips that they used on the left. The clips they used may have had the words on them. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] I swear, you guys must have a habit of not reading articles before you actually comment on them

Didn't they do this with cats a while back, or something similar? The people ended up looking like cat people. Really creepy.

[editline]24th September 2011[/editline] I'm really scared now.
is this real? it kinda looks 1990. if they did it to cats back then, why did it take them 20 years to do it on humans
its not really the same thing is it? this is not realtime, its recreating everything with videos, whilst the "cat version" is doing it realtime...? but yea, pretty weird that they didnt try this on humans until recently

Am I the only one who finds this absolutely fascinating, rather than shocking/scary/etc?
- Go to sleep - Try to have a lucid dream - Fuck any person that you think is sexually appealing - Record it and watch - Grats! you just made your own porn
Assuming this were possible, I'm interested in the possible legal ramifications of this. This tech won't be made public for years to come still. And when it does, I'm sure there will be some laws about it specifically.

The future of psychedelic music videos.
The dream versions are really fucking creepy. Like seriously, they would fit well into a horror movie or creepypasta at least.
