Boy killed instantaneously after head caught in escalators

Now I know why most escalators have these bell-chime things that hang down near the top. I always wondered what the fuck they were. I normally just swing them when I go past. I'm never going to look at them the same... They're like an early warning system for if you have your head sticking out. God damn. I'm not retarded or anything, but the thought never occurred to me you could die this way. I know for a fact if I was going up an escalator and a friend called from below and to the side, I'd stick my head out without thinking...
This is why you're supposed to put in those plastic walls between two escalators
This is why you keep an eye on your kids so their heads don't get ripped off by escalators.
And I don't like the damn things, so I usually just take the stairs.
Hey guys, no death is instant.
(more fuel for the phobia)
...that...I don't think that would kill you instantly.
It would grab your head and tear it from the rest of your body through sheer force. Given the rate that escalators move, I doubt it was instant.
I think it would have been instant. I mean, the kid wasn't paying attention, next thing he knows - his head is caught between the two escalators. It would have twisted and snapped his neck pretty much instantly, then the slow and gruesome tearing would have occurred next. I think if his neck snapped first, it would have been instant. Seeing as the two escalators move in different directions, his neck must have snapped.

If you're talking about the McDonalds coffee suit (I linked to the snopes forum because the original link is dead), it was entirely justified. The woman spent 7 days in the hospital getting skin grafts for her 3rd degree crotch burns. The coffee was kept at least 20deg hotter than any other restaurant's coffee to make it taste as if it wasn't old for longer.
What?
Oh I see now, thanks to those horrifying figures

Being shot in the forehead?
Still seems strange that it'd snap his neck, as there wasn't anything holding the rest of his body in place. You'd think he'd just get pushed around. Maybe get knocked over and fall down the escalator at worst.
Some people are having trouble imagining how this happened so...
Here's an illustration of what I believe happened, if you hate escalators you might not want to look at this:

Aside from getting shot in the brain, you're right, even decapitation leads to the person still being conscious for about 7-12 seconds.
sad though
And I was just going to go find this clip...

Plotless violence for mindless sheep to watch over and over, never realizing that the idea is old as shit and overused.
Never did like escalators, hail to the stair master race.
I still don't get it.
I still don't get it.
His head was pinned between the bottom of the other escalator as the moving railing twisted his head like a wheel and snapped his neck.
why do escalators exist
For fatasses who can't climb a few fuckin' steps.
Also, musta been a helluva headache! :v:

You are fucking kidding me right? Its not wrong to enjoy "mindless and plotless" things, get your condescending, angsty, and pretentious teenager ass out of here because honestly if you think that people are fucking mindless sheep for enjoying mindless and plotless things once in awhile then you have the understanding of a real sheep.

Are you talking about the McDonald's coffee case? Because there's much more to that case than, "Oh, the woman was too dumb to realize coffee is hot." Using this case as an example that all Americans are 'dumb' is profoundly stupid.

I always knew there was a good reason I hated escalators as a child

Normally they end up dying it stupidest and most contrived ways possible. Its one of those types of movies that you would watch with friends in the mindset of "this is going to be stupid as hell" and laugh at it. At least the newer ones. The first one wasn't so bad.
Being shot in the forehead?
A faster death would be being shot where the brain stem meets the spinal cord. You wouldn't even realize you were dead until whatever happens when you die.
My fear began when I learnt of the story of the boy who's laces got stuck in the steps and got sucked under
My grandma told me that when I was 7. I do the leap of faith thing whenever I ride one now.
Also, what the hell are the brush-like thinks on the side of an escalator for? I never really found that out.

Personally I've always thought of horror films as nothing more than a form of emotional masochism, and watching that scene only seems to confirm it.
how do people enjoy this stuff?
yuck, it just makes me sick
I never understood why anyone likes the Final Destination movies, either. It's nothing other than bad acting and gore with zero understanding of biology or anything else, for that matter.
Get over your escalator-phobia in seconds: Don't fucking fool around on them
death by moving stairs. sounds like something out of a horror movie doesn't it?
fuck it im now afraid of using escalators and elevators, thanks to facepunch
