wait we might legitimately have bionic eyes in 3 years, I take that back.
I'd rather google made cars specifically for blind people instead of either taking away people's ability to drive or throw in invasive "safety" technology everywhere
And I would rather get on the road knowing that they are pretty much safe and nobody will accidentally kill me.
Does it bother anyone else that in both pictures he's looking directly at the camera rather then straight forward?
I haven't met many blind people, but every single one I'v met never looked in any direction except straight forward

it isn't like his neck is broken.

Keep in mind the legal definition of "blind". It doesn't mean that he has literally zero sense of vision. Of course, that may be the case, but the legal definition of blind just means that your vision is at least extremely, extremely shitty.
He might retain the ability to at least look in the general direction of the camera. Besides, he looks a little off in the first pic anyway.
Convenient that they got HD pics before it happened tho
He was driving his friend's Subaru Impreza, those picture were taken by the Daily Mail, read the article!
But is the rock okay?

This may also be why he wanted to drive in the first place. Chances are he's not completely blind, and can still make out basic shapes and light sources.
I'm guessing the car just screams "BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE" or something. Can't really think of another way...
Plenty of legally blind people can see, just not well enough to drive. I was assuming(and hoping) this was the case when I came to the thread. But I was wrong, the article says he can see "vague shadows."
The article also says his friend was in the car with him, with one hand on the wheel and the other on the handbrake. So that makes it a little more explainable, even if it's still pretty stupid.
W-why was a blind man driving to begin with?
There have been some experiments with blind people getting a complicated stimulus system attached to the back of their brain, with a hole being drilled to have wires lead out to a camera attached to their forehead on sun glasses or a helmet, in which they were able to see in a grainy black and white.
I saw a report on the news where they got a blind man to drive around a city with the apparatus and he was able to do well. It's obviously not an ideal situation (the plug can get horribly infected, power loss, etc.) but it does work to an extent.

This is the ONLY time I would think a blind man behind the wheel would be 'okay'

Sounds like my first time on the roads. Mom went nuts, saying "BRAKE" every five seconds. One time I panicked and slammed them, 40-to-zero real fast, just 'cause she said that.
