Why a half life movie hasn't happened yet and if it does, Valve will be making it.

That one has a mute protagonist, and the whole thing works really well. A silent Gordon could work if there was a convincing non-gimmicky exaplanation for it.

Maybe they could do short little appearances or something. Maybe they could focus on one of the citizens in the first level and have an entire story for them. Then, you can see Gordon, in civilian clothing, walking around in the background. While the story progresses, the citizen becomes a rebel and you can sometimes see Gordon in combat in the background.

They can do something like that. That way, Gordon doesn't have to talk, he wouldn't have to be silent in the movie long enough for people to take much notice, and he'd be in the movie.

Showing the world in ruins from the point of view of someone in a train while the opening credits roll would be a fine way to start a movie.
