Being a republican and being gay is fine. The current republican party is not a republican party at all its a fundamentalist party. If he were to vote for current republicans then yes he'd be pretty against himself. However he can still hold republican values and not be a fundamentalist.
In short he can be a republican because what we know as 'republican' now is much more fundamentalist then it is republican. It's complicated...

Calling yourself a republican is worse than calling yourself a conservative. You can be economically conservative and still be an intelligent person (though I will disagree with you and that's just fine), but as soon as you call yourself a republican you are immediately aligning yourself with the likes of Sarah Palin and the rest of the socially conservative fucktards.

Ok this is the official story so far, since the article is quite poorly written in terms of chronology:

[*]The two marines then went off to meet a friend on either Bay Street or River Street (they gave different destinations to police)
[*]A different gay guy, Kieran Daly, and his friends were walking east in Congress Street. Either the marines or the gay guy and his pals were "eating pizza and joking around" (this isn't clear).
[*]Somehow Christopher Stanzel (the guy in the bottom photo) discovered Kieran Daly was gay. How this happened isn't clear - perhaps he overheard the guy talking about a crush, or perhaps Kieran made a remark about or to Christopher Stanzel.
[*]This next bit is muddled. Kieran either winked or squinted at Keil Cronauer (the man in the top photo, who is not the guy in the bottom picture, so apparently at some point Christopher told Keil that the man was gay), prompting Cronauer to repeatedly ask if the gay man was winking at him and if he was gay.
[*]Several of Kieran's friends attempted to intervene, either by getting him to ignore Keil or by denying Kieran was gay. Kieran, apparently unsuccessful at blanking the marine replied "So what if I am?" to the question as to whether or not he was gay.
[*]Keil then became enraged and angry.
[*]Kieran was then suddenly lying on the ground unconcious, apparently having been beaten so hard that he didn't have a pulse and wasn't breathing. This is coming from a woman who described the events as the guy being asked if he was winking and then he was suddenly lying on the ground, so I'm guessing she's either pretty stupid or she was somehow intoxicated (just a guess).
[*]The marines ran away.
[*]The police were called and came along at 3:45. The gay guy was taken to hospital from where he was released that evening. The marines were found, apparently hiding in an empty lot.
