North Korea seriously considering strike on Guam: Reports, citing state media

Am I the only one with hopes for a nuclear war but when the US spots the commie missile they will intercept it while bombing NK with 300 tons of pounds of nuclear freedom and democracy? The bad thing is it would last a few minutes :/

People like you are scary.
EDIT:
Sure explosions and mayhem is cool to observe, just a shame actions have consequences in real life...
I wonder how strong our anti-ICBM defense is. Like, what if the military has some really strong anti-nuke tech. The US loves fear-mongering so we obviously wouldn't know until it really came down to it, but it would be neat to see that we've been wearing bulletproof armour this whole time.
We've been doing tests - it's rather hard to do anti-ICBM tests in secret, since it involves firing an ICBM, and lots of countries have launch detection.
The tech seems to work against small attacks, but it would get quickly overwhelmed by an all-out attack, especially with decoys, and I'm not sure what we have against SLBMs. It could probably protect the continental US (sorry, Guam, Alaska and Hawaii, you're a bit fucked) from North Korea, Pakistan or India, but I wouldn't have much hope of it protecting us from Russia or China, who have far more, far larger missiles.

Probably not, which is unfortunate.
NK won't attack first
War is probably not going to happen
If it does, NK will perish and USA will try to install some puppet like they always do
China (and Russia) would not like the US to gain military presence in NK
going to war with NK is a stupid idea, North Korea knows it and thats why they are saying these things. NK would turn into a new syria with china, russia and US meddling in it
People like you are scary.
i'd re-phrase: people like him are what's wrong with this damn world
i'd re-phrase: people like him are what's wrong with this damn world
There's a lot more wrong with the world than that. For instance, the people who think "I hope we go to war with North Korea, I've got a lot of stocks in defense contractors and I'd make mad bank".
I get the feeling I'll be reading "US declare war on North Korea" with the next month.
Am I the only one with hopes for a nuclear war but when the US spots the commie missile they will intercept it while bombing NK with 300 tons of pounds of nuclear freedom and democracy? The bad thing is it would last a few minutes :/
I'm not even sure which one you meant
There's a lot more wrong with the world than that. I must point out that any invasion of north korea will have to deal with the defensive use of nukes, which would not require a delivery system.

Do you ever look at the consequences of real world actions because this sounds like you saw it in a movie or a video game once and think nuclear war is cool.
It's not.
Again, as I stated before, North Korea's entire nuclear and military doctrine is focused on a brutal counter attack, and then digging in deep. They would make coalition forces fight tooth and nail, spilling tons of blood to gain an inch.
Imagine Stalingrad with the possibility of nuclear weapons.
North Korea is a mostly rational actor that understands their limitations. They wouldn't dare to attack first because they know they'll lose and badly (barring some card up their sleeve like Chinese or Russian military support). Trump on the other hand has just enough reason to attack them to make war a slight possibility. He could see it as an almost guaranteed victory against a dictator that has been stressing the world out for decades now. War would also potentially re-solidify some of the base he's been losing since it would paint him again as a man of action. It's still fairly unlikely but the prospects are high enough to become worrisome.

Truly wish we could say the same about Trump

The first sign of imminent war of any nation will typically be the five eyes nations withdrawing all non-military personnel from the country, following which most other countries can smell what's coming and gtfo as well (either through espionage or through their own intel gathering). NK would immediately summon their foreign workers back to NK.
If and when that actually happens, that would be the first indicator that shit is about to go down.
As far as NK is concerned, I was always under the impression that similar to Israel they'd go full Samson Option because their threats seem more in line with that approach.

North Korea will develop Guam strike plan by mid-August: KCNA
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea will develop a plan by mid-August to launch four intermediate range missiles at the U.S. territory of Guam before presenting it to leader Kim Jong Un who will make a decision on whether to proceed, the North's state media said on Thursday.
[...]
"They will fly 3,356.7 km (2,085.8 miles) for 1,065 seconds and hit the waters 30 to 40 km away from Guam."
The North added that U.S. President Donald Trump's "fire and fury" comments earlier this week are a "load of nonsense", saying only "absolute force can work on him".

The latest round is acknowledgment of testing disguised as a threat. Really Bad Translation
In fact this is somehow camouflaged deconfliction

Thing is, is Trump smart enough to pick up on that and subtly help further deescalate the situation on his end?
Thing is, is Trump smart enough to pick up on that and subtly help further deescalate the situation on his end?
if you ever have to ask "is trump smart enough to X" the answer is "no"
if you ever have to ask "is trump smart enough to X" the answer is "no"
That's my point exactly

Smart enough to have won the election
Smart enough to have won the election
I would attribute that more to the incompetence of Hillary Clinton to be honest, as well as his ability to channel primal levels of fear mongering and xenophobia, than I would to any "smarts" of his.
So does Japan have the capabilities to intercept the ballistic rockets before they reach Guam?
the governor of Guam said on Wednesday North Korea's warning of a possible missile strike on the U.S. Pacific territory was no threat and the island was prepared for "any eventuality", with defenses strategically placed to protect its people.
"Guam is American soil ... We are not just a military installation," said Governor Eddie Calvo.
Calvo said in an online video message he had contacted the White House and had been told by the defense and homeland security departments there was no change in the threat level.
He said he would convene a meeting with Guam's military commander and first responders to discuss their state of readiness.
So Guam is a US Territory in which if attacked we would have to retaliate.
Governer of Guam has Praised "Trump" for the "Fire and fury" remark (he's also GOP)

John Noonan also thinks it's appropriate but he was the one who had concerns about Trump's Nuclear posture.
And I've been told from solider that Even though Trump is an asshole, Obama Also Did the Total Destruction spiel too, during these times.

That quote is taken out of context though.
It's also far more objective than whatever Trump may spew from his mouth.
Thing is, is Trump smart enough to pick up on that and subtly help further deescalate the situation on his end?
I think the honest question is: When Trump is told the truth about this "threat" and someone else is telling him different, which will he go with.
Mr Obama gave warning of the possible consequences. “We could, obviously, destroy North Korea with our arsenals,” he told CBS News. “But aside from the humanitarian costs of that, they are right next door to our vital ally, [South] Korea."
That's a whole lot different than "North Korea best not make any more threats to the U.S. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen."

Yep, just a load of hot gas as expected. They're not planning on hitting Guam, they're even changing their story to "mpre tests".
