• Survey: Atheists, agnostics know more about religion

Some Atheists celebrate Christmas. Makes perfect sense, they don't mean to be religious but still love the heart of it.
I think it's more referring to atheists who are more out spoken, every atheist I know doesn't know jack shit.
Pretty much agreed. Me being agnostic myself, I don't know a whole lot about religion. I just know enough to quietly not really believe it and not try and force my opinion on others.
I don't really understand what it means exactly. It says "know more about religion" like every religion is the same.
Pointless news is what it is.
Woops, I meant In God We Trust, the one on the penny. That one definitely came around during the Civil War. James Pollock was the Director of the Mint when it was first put on coins.
Oh, okay. That one I didn't know. I had actually assumed that our coins always had that for some reason...
http://features.pewforum.org/quiz/us-religious-knowledge/ I got 13/15. How about you? Oddly enough, I went to a Lutheran school for K-8th. I emerged an atheist. My school actually prompted us to learn about other religions. I simply found out in 7th grade that all the 3 major religions all tie back to one little fable.
The survey included questions such as who inspired the Reformation, whether prayer is allowed in public schools in the United States and what the most populous religion in Pakistan is. (Answers: Martin Luther, no and Muslim).
These are history questions. Any tenth grade high school social studies class should know these answers.
Is it wrong to believe in Jesus but to not be Christian? :3:
Jesus was an actual historical figure and did exist. Though that does not necessarily mean he was the messenger or son of God. Either way, denying his existance is like saying that George Washington was never born.
If you're atheist, then you're probably the most logical atheist I've ever heard. [editline]05:17PM[/editline] Assuming religists aren't.
I'm sorry but you cannot call yourself logical while you believe in an all powerful deity, you just can't. Ha, right for all the dumbs I'm getting. There is a teapot in elliptical orbit between earth and mars, but it's so small that no telescope of any kind can see it, ever. It's been there forever and without it's subtle gravitational pull we would have been thrown in harms way because it wouldn't be able to have a slight pull on asteroids coming towards us, clearly we should be praising this almighty teapot for without we couldn't live.
Was the "real" Jesus cremated then or?
I'm sorry but you cannot call yourself logical while you believe in an all powerful deity, you just can't.
You can't disprove god didn't cause the big bang, so it's not ridiculous, I mean with that logic it could be anything, but they aren't wrong, which is important to keep in mind. Obviously it's a bit foolish if you don't believe in things like evolution and by extension natural selection, or if you think god put dinosaur bones in the Earth to test people's faith, but not everyone is like that. Some people just like the idea of god, it's sort of like having an all knowing father figure guide you, making sure your life has a plan, and all that.

But I have shit for memory. I missed: 4. When does the Jewish Sabbath begin? 6. Which of the following best describes the Catholic teaching about the bread and wine used for Communion? 8. Which Bible figure is most closely associated with remaining obedient to God despite suffering? 15. Which one of these preachers participated in the period of religious activity known as the First Great Awakening?
Science and God are cool with each other. Its that black hole and the devil they can't stand. :byodood:
Agnostics are more logical than Atheists, in my opinion.
Agnostics are more logical than Atheists, in my opinion.
I'd agree with you but then I'd be saying that I'm not logical since I'm a weak atheist. [editline]02:58PM[/editline]
:munch:
Could you not try to help a shitstorm form, please?
Well I believe as a agnostic we're the middle ground. We don't say god doesn't exist, nor do we say god exists. As an agnostic I feel as if I can be more open minded about it, I can look at religion as a whole and understand it. I can look at multiple religions and get something from it rather then being closed minded and saying everyone is stupid or foolish. Every group or division has extremists, not everyone is raging manics trying to start a crusade. We got retarded Christians, Atheists, Catholics, etc and at the same time we got very tolerant Christians, Atheists, Catholics, etc. I believe in technology and science over religion (Mainly because most of it is backed up by concrete evidence, but sometimes scientists can't get their shit together. Another flaw of science is that it is backed up by science. So if something is wrong with the previous find it could fuck up the current find.), but it still has a place with me because something can be learned from it. Don't let your ignorance get in the way of learning something from a holy book. Some of it might seem to be far fetched or even ridiculous, but there is a lesson to be learned. Think of them as proverbs of some type. But very long proverbs.

Weak atheists are actually pretty similar to agnostics. We believe that there is no God but we don't assume to know whether or not one exists. [editline]03:03PM[/editline] I think I mixed up Judaism and another religion for the Sabbath.

I'm not surprised. Not in the least.
This went straight to my facebook wall.
Ooh 14/15. Missed the one regarding the Eucharist.
agnostic atheists are more logical than gnostic atheists, in my opinion.
fixed your post for you
fixed your post for you
You do realize he said in his opinion, right?
You do realize he said in his opinion, right?
why does that matter
why does that matter
Because you can't really fix his opinion.
Because you can't really fix his opinion.
I wasn't trying to. he has a flawed idea of what agnosticism and atheism is, and I corrected it
I wasn't trying to. he has a flawed idea of what agnosticism and atheism is, and I corrected it
Might have wanted to specify that then. It looked more like you were trying to correct his opinion.
I'm agnostic. [editline]07:35PM[/editline] 1 got 14/15, but that might be because I go to a catholic school. Still, I think it's important to learn about what you DON'T believe in, as well as what you DO.
13/15. Got the Jewish Sabbath day wrong (thought it was Saturday), and the "figure associated with obediency despite suffering (thought Moses). [editline]07:48PM[/editline]
I'm agnostic. [editline]07:35PM[/editline] 1 got 14/15, but that might be because I go to a catholic school. Ideally, anything less is a tad ignorant, imo. I see this to be a key "tenement" to those following atheism, or at least it should be.
